The quality and flavor of these brew options are fresh, made daily and taste the same as the chain stores. YES! I am speaking on their coffee bar. Since my coffeemaker broke and I'm too lazy to research a new one...I have discovered my new coffee spot. A 20oz is two bucks, I get to make it my way and I'm usually in and out super quick. The staff are typically friendly and warm even for early mornings. Not sure when I'm replacing my coffee maker, I am sure Shell will see more of me. read more

Their automatic car wash is broken, yet they're still charging $17 for "All the Works." I drove into their car wash, paid for the best wash, and as I pulled in, the stop light--which is supposed to turn red when you're meant to stop--was not working. Then, when it came time for the drying, only the right-side blower was functioning, leaving one side of the car dry and the other side wet. They need to take responsibility to the people of Hercules, properly maintain their equipment, and stop ripping customers off!! read more

I never get gas here as their prices are never competitive - so much higher compared to gas stations within a 2 mile radius. (I get it - the convenience of being close to the freeway sorta justifies this, I suppose.) But I like coming through to get lotto tickets because it's convenient and staff is really friendly. I also like that they're mindful about disinfecting the counter after each customer. That's pretty much the only reason I come through. Should they drop their gas prices commensurate to the other gas stations, I might reconsider gassing up here. read more

Man their carwash broke down mid car wash and left my car completely full of soap. When I let the attendant know, he tried to fix it but was unable. He offered to rinse off my car with the water from the pump and finished off my car wash. I appreciated it so much. read more

They keep advertising on their sign out front that you get a discount on gasoline if you buy a car wash. I have been there 3 weeks in a row and twice there was no discount on my receipt and once was only 5 cents cheaper per gallon instead of the 20 cents cheaper per gallon. Don't ever try using their air compressor. My day was ruined because of that. I thought I was so stupid that as simple as adding air to my car tires was a failure. I asked 3 drivers getting some gas to help me but they all failed. Finally, a guy working there came to help but asked me first, "did you use a cloth or towel?" I was like what?! When the gas light come on when I'm driving, I figure roughly that I have about 20 miles to go before I coast to a stop. This drives Gayle and my son crazy as I do my mental calculations and figure out what gas station I'll stop. And after that long stretch on Highway 4 (and through the Franklin Canyon), that place is sometimes Hercules Shell. This place is what it is and what you would expect from Shell. It has a car wash, a mini-mart, roomy driving lanes, and clean throughout. Freeway access can be a little tricky though. And Price? Well we do live in interesting times. read more

Just got back home from using their car wash. I use their gas station for gas only as a last resort. I got the $5 car wash, the cheapest option. There's one corner that didn't even get wet. I have reported this station to the State. They advertise that the gas price is discounted if you also get a car wash. Beware! This is not true if the car wash is inoperable. They don't post any signs that advise that the car wash is not working. So, you pump your gas before you know this. When you bring this to the attendant's attention, he just shrugs and tells you too bad. read more

I ride a motorcycle 5 days a week. I've found that Shell premium fuel works the best for this bike. It runs smoother, acceleration is better and mileage is 3 to 5 mpg higher than other brands. Costco gas seems to be just as good but stopping there on my way to or from work is not convenient. Because of the lack of competition at this location the price of the gas is stupid expensive. That being said, the pumps and lot are always clean. There are enough pumps that even with all the business I've never had to wait. I haven't been inside the market but I'm sure it's as nice as the exterior and they have what you'd expect for a quick snack and drink. I don't like being gouged but overall it's really not a bad price to pay for the easy in and out refueling I need to do every week. If the price were 25 cents per gallon more than Costco instead of 85 I'd give 5 stars. read more

I wish I could rate lower than a one. I was just in with my husband to get gas in both of our vehicles and had the worst experience. He paid for gas and a quart of oil, the transaction was approved and when he exited the lobby I went to pump gas and nothing came out. He tried his pump also and nothing. He checked his receipt and checked our bank info to see if we were charged and we were in fact charged a little over $ 75.00 (50.00 in his vehicle, 25.00 in mine, and the price of a quart of oil) My husband went back inside to let the clerk know that the gas wasn't pumping and she told him she canceled the transaction and wouldn't give an explanation at first. She then said she did it because the name on his debit card didn't match his ID. At this point I'm walking in concerned because I saw my husband was clearly frustrated. I asked what was wrong and he said she canceled the transaction but it's still showing up as a charge to our account. At this point I wasn't as worried about the refund as I was worried about her reasoning. I asked again why she canceled it and she gave the same reason, my husband then put his card and ID on the counter and I said the names clearly match. She replied that she couldn't read it, so I asked why she would slide the card if it was unreadable. She turned her back to my husband and I and started talking to the other clerk in a different language. I kept asking why she was choosing to do this and they ignored my husband and I. I asked the male clerk if he was management and he said no, then I asked if he could explain to us why she chose to not give us the gas we paid for. Keep in mind I'm on E and just trying to get home and my husband is late for class at this point. The male clerk says we will get our refund in 2 days and basically blows us off. I said I can't wait that long for that amount especially when it's an error on her part. They start having another conversation and he asks to see my husband's ID and Debit Card, he hands it to him and the male clerk shakes his head and says something to her in a different language again. He says that we can swipe the card again and that he will allow us to get gas there. The female clerk named Percy is not making eye contact at this point and his mumbling angrily. At this point I feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable that I just want to find gas somewhere else. I asked for the managers contact info and left. The fact that my husband is white and was allowed to complete the transaction but as soon as she looks out of the window and sees that I'm black she immediately canceled the transaction without notifying either of us. She assumed it was some sort of scam and she wouldn't even acknowledge me. The funny thing is she canceled the transaction and forgot my husband bought oil so she ended up giving it to us for free. Since we are both honest hard working people we brought it back in and sat it on the counter then drove to the nearest gas station. read more

I can't bring myself to give a 5 to self serve gas station. I'm giving it a four because this location has consistently been one of the lower cost gas stations in the area, especially for "brand" name gas. Usually I have no wait to get to a pump. It doesn't feel dirty and everything has always been in working order. I've also come here to get coffee on occasion. This gas station is okay. I haven't had any real problems but it's also not my preferred gas station. Because its the only one near me, I have no other choice but to go here. Many people will go here because it's conveniently located near the I-80 E&W freeway and the CA-4 highway. There's more than enough pumps for everyone (I counted about 9 pumps). There's also a standard car wash (I haven't tried) and the food mart is pretty big for a Shell station. However, like others have said, the prices here are a little higher compared to other Shell stations. Also, the staff can be a little rude sometimes. I haven't really had any trouble with the card readers but they aren't always reliable. Most of the time, this station is really busy around late afternoons from 3-6 pm-ish. I've had better gas but if you really need that Shell-quality gasoline, look no further! read more

There are only two gas stations in Hercules. One is this Shell (obviously) and the other is a 76 going toward Rodeo. This gas station is conveniently placed in an area that has no other competitors around and is very close to the highway on ramps. That deadly combination allows them to have higher gas prices. They do, however, have a car wash, which is nice, because there aren't many places nearby that offer this service. I personally have never had any problems with the staff working here. I barely ever have to go inside, but when do, the workers are kind. Some other things mentioned in previous reviews are very much true though. This gas station does tend to get crowded, especially in the mornings, and there always seems to be a couple of pumps that are out of order. I can't complain too much though. If I'm in dire need of gas while in Hercules, I know that this location is available. read more

I am not surprised that the prices are higher here than anywhere else because they have absolutely no competition around them. In larger cities, there are gas stations directly across from one another... and here, there is nothing. A majority of the time, there are broken pumps and card-readers that don't work. It has a car wash, but sometimes that is broken too. And there are often people here in the late morning and early evening since they either want to fill up before work or after. Overall, there is not much to say about this gas station. It is located in a great place because the entrance and exits to HWY 4 and I-80 E&W are directly to or from here. It is also located near Jack-In-The-Box, Starbucks, Extreme Pizza, Kinders, and a Chase. I would only be back if I was desperate. But other than that, I would rather drive to the next town to fill up. read more

I used to live in Hercules. Everytime I went there a problem was encountered at the pumps. Once, while refueling my car, I paid with a credit card at the pump. The pump shut off at $40.00, and would not give me anymore gas. I was trying to fill the tank, and was just shy of the $41.00 needed. The clerk inside only allowed $40.00 to be pumped and no more. I was told I would have to restart the pump and pay again if I wanted more gas. Another time I went there and tried to pay at the pump. The clerk inside said I had to go inside with my card and I.D. Apparently they were checking I.D.'s on any purchase at the pump with a card. I've never had to do that at other stations. My father also has encountered these problems at this station while using his card as well. Neither of us go there anymore to fill up due to the hasles. Shady business practice. Customers are entitled to free air and water with gasoline purchase yet this place will give you a fake code for the air pump. They gave me the code 632 and I tried it many times yet the code did not work. The girl said, "here let me come out and help you" and I'm pretty sure that was because she did not want to give the actual code. It sure beats driving to Pinole back in the days when Hercules didn't have a gas station! All of you long term Hercules Residents should know what I'm talking about...lol! Today I stopped by to purchase a bottle of water, spoke to the cash register clerk and went to the back for selecting water. As I turned around the cashier clerk was watching me to see if I was going to steal something!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!! I put their product back and walked out! Now keep in mine I was spending $45.00 to $50.00 a week on gas. Kinda strange how this place has an all Filipino staff. Not sure how that occurred but they are friendly and it's a great place to practice your Tagalog. Gas prices are too high here, I hate going here. Lots of pumps and easy to get into and out of lot. Prices for items inside of store are also ridiculously high.
