I have been going to the Circle K on Elgin Street for 7 years. The previous owner was kind funny…read morerespectful the coffee was always made in the morning the food was fresh muffins pastries the store was clean and it was never locked in the morning . Ever since it's been turned over to New Management the store has gone to crap . Especially the young guy who works in the morning sometimes at night is rude disrespectful has a poor attitude threatens to call the police anytime he doesn't like what you have to say and he's extremely homophobic when it comes to the trans community I've watched him laugh and mock trans people in the store . It has been addressed to the new owner several times but to be quite honest with you it seems like he doesn't even understand what you're saying to him because he will just laugh and say okay okay and walk away the individual seems to still be working there after several complaints against him about being homophobic and disrespectful to the trans community. The health department needs to be called because the food is disgusting do not eat the hot dogs pastries or the muffins for 3 days there was hundreds of fruit flies crawling all over them and they were still selling them to the public instead of removing them and cleaning out the cabinet they allowed it to sit in there for three more days. Overall some of the staff and the management have a poor attitude and with all that time setting up the pastry section and the pizza section in the hot dog section there hasn't once been Pizza the hot dogs are disgusting and the pastries have fruit flies crawling all over them what a waste of time and it's unfortunate that the old owner took such Pride in his customers and the store to be turned over to someone who could care less

Abbas Grocery - Side of the store

Abbas Grocery is a great little convenience store for those in the neighbourhood. I was greeted by…read moreone of the Abbas brothers (Radi) and he was very friendly and welcoming. The store is clean and has a good selection of products. I have an unusual fascination with small independently-owned convenience stores, so I like checking them out. I especially like finding some prepared foods in these types of stores, as they are usually made with love. I had heard that Abbas Grocery had good sandwiches so I was excited to check them out. I was expecting paninis but the sandwiches are in fact sandwich bread sandwiches (like Wonder Bread) in comfort food varieties such as tuna, egg salad and ham and cheese. Radi assured me the sandwiches are freshly made each morning. The ham and cheese sandwich was around $4.49 and it did have a generous amount of ham, but it did look like something I could put together at home (sandwich bread, a slice of processed cheese and some slices of ham), so I passed. They had a few slices of cheesecake and I asked where they were from. I thought maybe a local baker, but was advised they were from a distributor in Montreal. I didn't end up getting anything, but enjoyed looking around. I can tell that the owners take pride in their store. Prices are reasonable and Radi was very nice. If I lived in the neighbourhood and needed convenience store items, I would definitely go to Abbas Grocery.

Ottawa South Groceteria - Front of the store

A friend and I discovered Ottawa South Groceteria while we were students at Carleton. We first saw…read morethis grocery/convenience store on the way to buying books and coursepacks at Haven Books, which is directly across the street. We mainly took notice because of their big "Free Delivery" sign. We asked the man at the counter for more information. He asked us if we went to Carleton and lived in residence, and we said yes, so he told us that after we were finished shopping around, that he'd drive us back to campus with all of our groceries. I've had some friends go to the store and have been told that they don't deliver, so I'm assuming that they probably only deliver within a very small radius, Carleton campus included. If my friend and I were just lucky that day and the man was feeling extra nice, then we were definitely very appreciative. The store is very small, though they did have many of your basic needs, like milk, bread, and some produce. My friend and I did a bit of our grocery shopping together, including milk, juice, bread, cream cheese, hot dogs, bananas, a couple of chocolate bars, and a few other miscellaneous items. The prices were higher than you would expect to pay at your average grocery store, but cheaper than you would normally pay at a convenience store. The man and what we assumed to be his wife that ran the store were very nice and accommodating. We didn't come here too often, though, as we did more bulk shopping at the Loblaws via O-Train, but it was nice to know a store like this was (still is) very close to campus.

Groceteria is a small grocery-type store on Sunnyside, just east of Carleton U. What first…read moreintrigued me about the place was the sign that said 'Free Delivery'. A grocery that delivers? How awesome is that? Winter is coming and it would be sweet to find a place that would save me from having to venture out on those evenings when the temperature falls below negative 20 below! So, I went in and asked the owner about the delivery service. Sadly, they do NOT deliver. But, they haven't been able to afford to buy a new sign. Dang! Nevertheless, I took a look around while I was there and found the Groceteria to be a handy little place. It has everything a good convenience store offers (chips, pop, cigarettes, magazines, etc.). Plus, it has a small produce section where you can get some fruits and vegetables (bananas, apples, tomatoes). The owners are of Indian (or at least, Indian Sub-Continent) descent, and they offer a selection of big, homemade samosas. It is a friendly store, where everyone seems to know everyone else. Pity about the delivery....!

It basically has everything you need to arrive in Mont Tremblant, come to the store and be ready to cook breakfast and dinner the next day. The store is on the bus route and has a stop right at the front entrance. We stayed in the Old Village, less than a five minute walk to the store, so for us it was heaven sent. We were impressed at the quality of their food and most of all, their cheeses. They have a wide selection of ready-to-warm items which came quite handy as after a full day of skiing, there is little energy left to engage in from-scratch cooking. Staff is helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Overall, a most convenient, and well stocked place.

The veggies section reminds me of a little IGA they have all the fancy dips and dressings for your veggies and salads. Grab your wood here for the fire places up at cap Tremblant because they sell it 5.75 for one log down at the front desk not the best deal. You can't miss the spot it's right beside the tennis court.
