You hear people complain that IGA is more expensive, and it's true for some items, mostly meat, but you cannot always compare with Super C as the quality is better on some of the cuts. They have a section for better quality meat (like AAA beef for example) if you want something a bit fancy.
Their produce section is good, lots of variety and I rarely go there to find empty shelves.
The deli has very good stuff, you can get cheap ham or fancy sausage, and their "Compliments" brand is often very cheap but the quality is still there. Lots of staff on the meat slicers during rush hour so you rarely wait for more than a few minutes.
The bakery makes very good bread, baguette and other desserts, like any other boulangerie, and it is not a lot more expensive than getting a baguette at the cheaper grocery or Walmart. They also offer a good variety of cheeses that you cannot find elsewhere in the neighbourhood.
Aisles and frozen sections are the same as elsewhere, but in the soda section they carry some of the more fancy stuff like craft sodas, tonics, etc. if you're looking for something different (but very expensive compared to a 12 or 24 pack).
They carry a lot of microbrewery beer and imports, I wish they sold Gainsbourg since it's made in our city, but they have a lot of variety, definitely the best place for beer in le Plateau.
They also have a warm food section, with rotisserie chicken, sometimes other pieces of meat, french fries, salads, etc., at a competitive prices.
Finally, I don't want to say it influenced my score, but they have been very generous with my kids' school this past year, giving close to a thousand apples at some point, ice for the end of year party, and more, so I am encouraged to go visit a store that is involved in its community. read more
