Good choice, fresh products, light and clean store with convenient parking. The staff is courteous and friendly.

I shop here often. Here are a couple of suggestions: - the store has extended hours (7 am-11 pm) daily. - the store honours ad matches to other retailers - incl. WalMart, No Frills, and Food Basics; - the ees are unionized. Note that some products are overpriced so ad matching is IMO a must. read more

I had never heard of the Real Canadian Superstore until I moved to Ottawa, but I am a big fan now. I like this location. It's big, there's lots of parking and things are usually in stock. I avoid this place on the weekends before 8pm and on weekdays between 4pm-6pm because it is packed in there. I go off peak hours and it's fine. They have a good selection of prepared foods. Their bakery section is not huge, but it's acceptable. They have a small bulk food section. They have washrooms upstairs. There is also a medical clinic upstairs. There's a Wine Rack inside the store, as well as a dry cleaning place. Sometimes they have random unadvertised sales. I once got a large brick of Cracker Barrel cheese for $2 on a Wednesday night. Then the next day the price went back up to $5.99 (?!?) They have a clearance/liquidation section behind the books/magazines section where they have discounted stuff that didn't sell - like chocolate flavoured condensed milk (yum! why this is an unpopular item beats me!) or chips in "weird" flavours. This is one of my regular grocery stores, so I do like it. read more

This experience is based on 4 months going at this store: Even though the store has great selections of fruits, vegetables, meats, fish and other products, my bad experience focuses on employees. First, the wrong amount was registered multiple times about fruits and vegetables, and I got charged once for a beauty product of $ 24 that I even did not get. So, definitely check out your receipt before leaving! Also, this is always a long line for return products at the customer service desk. Second, I complained once about a security issue to the management and they even didn't know how to proceed. I got an answer from the management one month after because I've done a follow-up. I got no suggestion where I should get oriented for my issue. The answer: it was not their fault because even though their hire security agents through a third party, anything happening with them is NOT the manager's problem. Other cons: - They have a useless app that doesn't really give advantages to match prices since it just works among certain companies - I got little or no PC points when I spent over $ 200 on groceries. Since the lack of support from the management, I never went back. read more

Believe it or not, there was huge controversy before this store opened; apparently, an affordable grocery store with a wide variety was controversial in the NIMBY parts of Westboro. The store is being renovate, and it's becoming more Loblaws-esque. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I will take time to get used to the changes. On the plus side of the ledger, they now stock wine & beer (though it's till under the foolish Ontario rules - as someone who grew up in Montreal, I don't understand puritan Ontario, but that's another rant) Well stocked, good prices, price matching (which is a great thing unless I am in line behind you and you've got a long list of things to match ;) ) and walking distance from home make this a fine grocery store. read more

This is a huge store, but I was disappointed in my experience for a couple of reasons: First of all, although there's a lot in there, I 'd have to say I don't really like how the store is laid out. It was hard to find the coffee display, as it's not labelled at the end of the row - it just says "coffee filters"; after a closer look, the beans and cans are indeed beside the filters. However, although they did have the coffee I was looking for, at the price I was expecting to find it, I couldn't find a coffee grinder. Secondly, after looking around a bit for a place to grind the coffee beans, I started looking for a staffer to ask about it. They're even harder to find! Only to be told that they don't offer a coffee grinder. I found this a bit weird. Are all Loblaws' like this? read more

I've been trying out this grocery store for a bit because the quality and service has been dropping at my local Lobalws. The Real Canaidan Superstore, in the heart of Westboro is nice, but it has its pros and cons. Pros: -Produce is generally fresh and stocked well. -They have an organic section. -Huge home and seasonal section. -Plenty of cashes open. -Large parking lot in the back of the store. Cons: -Crammed store; there is a lot going on in this store, and with two entrances, it can get very busy; especially in the evening. (I've knocked into a couple food displays a couple of times and almost ran customers over with my cart). -Although they have a lot merchandise, and food, there is not a lot of selection or variety on the items that I am looking for. -Bag your own groceries. I prefer this store compared to the Loblaws closer to my home, and will make the extra 5 minute drive just to avoid going to that Loblaws. read more

I'm new in town so I'm looking for new places to shop for groceries. For the sake of transparency, I used to work at a No Frills (basically a discount version of the same company) for 9 years. First of all, I found it strange that they would have an amazing variety of one thing (noticed way too many different types of puddings and ramen noodles) but severely lack variety of something else (only 2-3 flavours of coffee mate--notably, not the one I was looking for, nor did they have the small bottles). The produce section was plentiful and appeared to be fresh, however. And then right beside it, the seafood section is equipped with tanks for various things, but are stocked with a handful of skinny-looking lobsters. Odd. I got all my things and went to the check out. As I leave the check out, customers have to walk all the way through the front of the store, passing various counters, produce and displays along the way, ripe for greedy picking. Odd... (That is to say, if I were the store owner, I wouldn't want customers to walk through the store with their paid merchandise in order to exit... it's just impractical). And finally, I found it frustrating that customer service wouldn't honour a displayed price. Guacamole was displayed at $6, so I picked one up. Went to the cash and it scanned for $8.28. Instead of giving it to me for the displayed price of $6 (they claimed that it was the *other* kind of guacamole that was $6, and not *this* one, even though they were equally displayed on the shelf for $6), they wanted to refund it and have me walk away without my guacamole, even though it was clearly their mistake. I mean, if you're going to be the sort of store that does price matches, why wouldn't you honour the prices on your own shelves? This was my first experience shopping at this store, and I'm afraid it'll be the last. read more

Good quality of produce. Their prices are competitive and price matching has saved a lot of money (price matching policy not always clear though I have 2-3 different lists of stores they match to which makes it complicated). Currently undergoing renovations and navigation is a bit more difficult but they have hired extra staff who are eager to help. There are cooking lessons and an in store dietitian (haven't used these services though). read more

I have to update my review as I've been frequenting this grocery store a lot more lately. I still find it crowded, and I still maintain that the layout is flawed, but I've noticed some other great things that bump up this rating for me. Firstly, their takeout sushi is by far the best grocery store sushi I've ever had. Fresh, pretty and tasty, they have a lot of combinations that I haven't seen at other grocery stores, like their coconut shrimp tempura roll - yum! I also have to give props to their amazing natural food section. They have a great variety of supplements, beauty products, foods and household products. They always have a ton of sales on as well. Their produce selection is also very good - I prefer it to the college square Loblaws. They have a lot more organic stuff! My last reason for bumping up their rating? They almost always have plenty of cashiers of duty which means you don't wait nearly as long in line as some other grocery stores. I've had some great customer service experiences lately! read more

I tried calling . Waited 45 minutes for them to answer. Customer service line disgusting.

Though I have had good experiences in the past recently the employees there have been quite rude and carless making my experiences there really upsetting especially for someone like me who gets stressed in social situations. I've had my worst experience to date today at this store when I was trying to get a box of Ice cream it was supposed to be for 4$ but was miss priced and was over 5$ (I know if a price is wrong you can get the item for free according to store policy but I was more than willing to pay the 4$). I decided to talk to an employee there to see if I could get it fixed to 4$ and he very meanly responded "Well too bad" which really hurt me and ended up ruining my night. I feels as though recently this location's quality has really dropped and I believe from now on that I will be shopping at the Farmboy across the street. read more

This store is really big and has a great selection of almost everything. Don't use the self checkout. It will take forever because they only have 1 attendant for 6 cash registers and 4/5 transactions seem to require the attendant. It's faster to go through the regular way. read more

Real Canadian Superstore - Grocery Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

This superstore advertises that it price matches. Well never never try to price match any kind of meat. I tried to price match a butterball turkey at Easter, the turkey had to be under 7kg. Well there was one which was 7.2 kg and no way would they let me buy it. Chicken breasts, with skin and bone were on at independent for $2.00 lb, would they let me price match, no way, they said the chicken breasts at theSuperstore were free from. Well can they not match with another type of chicken breast and this is not the first time that this has happened. I brought it to the attention of the Manager but to no avail. read more

Good selection of produce. Love the price matching. Add that to the PC points and it's easy to save money shopping here. Two complaints, though. First, as someone with mobility issues, I'm thrilled that they have two scooters there customers like myself. It's too bad they're not consistent with keeping them in charged and in good repair. Today I barely made 30 feet down the hall before the scooter died. This is the third time that's happened to me. What would have been a 30 or 40 minute trip took me 2 hours because of the constant need to sit and rest. Second problem is the purging of products from the shelves. One example- Pirate cookies. Dropped from their stock completely. Maybe it was too much competition for the 14 kinds of Oreos on the shelf. This afternoon I wanted to pick up some bags of Ace Bakery mini crisps. They come in 6 flavours. How many flavours on the shelf? 2. When I asked if they had other flavours in the back I was told abruptly that they only had what was on the shelf. I've seen that a fair bit. Stocking only 1 or 2 varieties of a product that they formerly stocked 5 or 6 flavours of. So, no more Pirate cookies, inadequate flavours of mini crisps, limited flavours of coffee creamer. Good-bye spreadable Brie, garlic and artichoke salsa. And lots of great products, like the salsa, replaced by inferior, flavorless PC brands products. read more

Love the store for its pricing, selection, hours and newly renovated look. Also love the fact that you can now get wine and other alcoholic beverages. Easy to find all the products. Staff helpful. read more

Since this store was opened in its new format some months ago i rarely shop there any more. The layout is confusing, the foot traffic pattern sets you on a collision course with other shoppers and there are multiple areas to find salad vegetables. All in all i now shop at the nearby health food store and Farm Boy. Whoever designed this store was either never going to shop there or had a temporary mental lapse and forgot what they were designing or it was designed by the competition. Gill P. read more

Lots of stuff here, but a shopping experience that is cold and lifeless. The cashiers are not helpful and you really feel like you are lost and on your own in this place. If you like the big box store, then this is the place for you. But just down the street is the much more intimate Metro, with less selection, granted, but prices that are comparable, and a really good meat department. read more

I wish they would put all the "non-edible" stuff on the other side of the store so you don't have to walk so much to get to what you need! It's stressful and daunting having to do groceries there. And you can never find anybody to ask for help. The produce area is a mess, the way they've set it up, you're always crashing or bumping into people. I hate shopping there, but sometimes I have to. read more

It's definitely a large store and as a result has a decent selection in terms of items and the store is kept decently clean but I must agree with a previous review, the staff here really aren't interested in helping customers. For me this isn't a big deal since I usually know what I want and where it is before I'm in the store but I know this is a problem for many people. One good thing the store has going for it is location, it's located in a very nice spot in Westboro, has plenty of parking, something rare for businesses in the area and it's along Route 2 of OC Transpo, which gives people easy access to the store. Overall if you're just in the market for food at decent prices and have a need for staff who actually care about customers, this is a store worth coming to. But given the choices in the Ottawa area, there are better alternatives as well. read more

Here's my experience working at this place for a few years (4270 Innes Road in Orleans): Cashier at Real Canadian Superstore: Hostile behavior from many, people who try to make me feel inferior, people swearing at me, people would steal stuff at the self-serve cashes, etc. Cart guy at Real Canadian Superstore: 90% of people cutting me off with their cars, people giving me the finger from their cars, people yelling and swearing at me (one guy even called me the N word for no reason, I've had countless people call me ''B****'', etc.) I've had people threaten me, etc. As for the management, awful. They swear at the staff and treat them like garbage, talk behind everyone's backs and intimidates the staff, etc. I have nothing good to say about this company except for some of the employees I had the pleasure of working with. Horrible atmosphere and after I quit I vowed never to have anything to do with this company. These retail companies should enforce rules to make sure the staff aren't being bullied, intimidated and harassed every day, very toxic environment. Everyone deserves respect and places like this one encourage abuse towards fellow human beings, some of the staff are mothers or fathers too. It's absolutely disgusting and I'm shocked to have witnessed such horrible behavior from human beings. Retail companies need to start enforcing rules so customers respect the staff and vice versa. read more

Originally, I wrote a review here few months ago, I don't know what happen to it and I'm going to rewrite it again. As for someone who used to work for them long time ago, I'm going write down my past experience since it was my parent's idea to encourage me to work for them after my finals from college. They think it would be a good idea for me to earn as much money I can before college starts again. Before I even start working for them, I didn't know some of the staff in the cashier department were so rude and such a bad attitude but I guess it is not just them cause from what I see some of the reviews on here, I guess it is pretty much anyone in that store. I was only there for a short amount of period and just based on my bad past experience from them, my family and I haven't came back to that store since then. In honestly, I feel like it wasn't really my fault completely since I feel like I wasn't prepared enough that they only train you for like two times only before you actually start your first shift. Not just that, when the manager in my department told me there was another person who was hired around the same time as me, her work ethic is not good enough for them and she is working very slowing but a little better than me and he is going to watch if she will improve or not. From what I can remember, you are allowed to take day off on any shifts you work that week but if you over do yourself, the manager will be not pleased. If you were someone who is interest in taking this job, I hope you handle obnoxious staff and have a good memory since there is a lot of stuff to remember before you are actually on your own without anyone help. I'm just telling you that if you screw up, everyone around you will see your failure and talk bad about you in front of you but not direct toward you. There was this 3 certain males working in my department before I left the place said something like "if you can't handle the job, you might as well leave find somewhere else where you are actually qualified since that's what another guy did before the past Christmas beak start to happen." read more

Frustrating experience. Had a tight schedule on Saturday so I checked in advance when their Garden Centre opens. Sign says 7am on Saturday. So I show up at 7:05. Still locked up. Wait until 7:15. Then go inside to information desk. They say it doesn't open until 8. I point out that sign says 7. She calls manager then says someone while be there in a minute. Wait another 15 minutes. No one shows up. I'm running late for next appointment so I leave. While I was there a handful of people also showed up expecting it to have opened at 7. They too left empty - handed and frustrated. A customer's time is valuable. They wasted mine. read more

Lineups were a mile long today, so I tried to use the self-checkout section, where the customer does all the cashier's work, but pays the same for the groceries. The talking machine kept jamming. The attendant kept resetting it. It all took forever. Then on my last item, the machine jammed again, but the attendant was gone. So like an idiot I tried for a bit to get the machine to work, then turned to the other chumps lining up behind me and told them sorry, I give up, and just left. Called the store later to complain, and it was eminently clear they don't give a toss. I will try hard never, ever to return, even though it's in my neighborhood. It's like a food version of IKEA. Walk for miles through a place designed to keep you walking, then just try to pay and leave. read more

Terrible customer services, especially the cashier's. They are rude and do not help with packing your groceries when you bring bags, or buy bags. They are frequently out of produce, items on shelves are past its expiry, the bakery items are not in any covered bins so there are flies buzzing around and very stale bread, and the staff in the grab and go section are beyond rude and it's very confusing in general on how to access those items/where to order/where to pay. When you ask the staff they seem very irritated. Have been there 4 times all different days of the week, and not going to go there anymore. read more
