After 10 years going there I won't go back. Told me I needed a root canal when I didn't. Told me they use no adhesive to secure crowns which is not true. Suggested extractions on teeth that only needed root canals. Repeatedly harassed me to make appointments after I told them I was going to Sani in Los Algodones Mexico for treatment. Sani did one root canal, two crowns, panoramic X-ray and cleaning for $1400 about the cost of one root canal in Palm Desert read more

Since booking the two children and myself in for teeth cleaning I am appalled by the unprofessional-ism of this dentist. It is true we were 'testing' this dentist out, as such we did not want anything other than teeth cleaning as we were undergoing work at a different dentist. How upset was I when I found out the children had been X-rayed whilst I was having my teeth cleaned. They (the dentist and the office staff) do not appear fair - just money grabbers. Made me laugh that they want so much dental work completed that does not need doing. Recommend - think first before booking an appointment. read more

Coming from the 6th largest city in the country (Phoenix) to Joshua Tree it's expected to not have some of the conveniences you've come accustomed too. Finding a good dentist or physician unfortunately falls into this category. After receiving a glowing review from a friend I spoke with Dr. Hough's office to gather some basic information. The office staff was extremely competent, answered the phone (real live human) and was happy to speak with me answering all if not more of my questions. My initial appointment was stellar from introduction, wait times, full X-rays and cleaning by the dental hygienist, Jen. I could overhear Dr. Hough speaking softly and caring to the other patients in other exam rooms. For the consultation Dr. Hough was the most pleasant man, taking time to reference answers I provided in the introduction/new client questionnaire, never feeling rushed the perfect mix of casual conversation and plan of attack for dental needs both immediate and ongoing. The replacement of an old metal filing was recommended and appointment set. Unlike big-cities I was able to make the appointment with just a few days lead-time. Returning to the office for the procedure I again was greeted with happy, competent staff with little or no wait times. Dr. Hough reviewed my x-rays while chatting with me as if I'd been visiting him for years. He and assistant quickly got to work on the task at hand and I was in and out of the office with a full and semi-deep filling in less than an hour! Make (note...less than an hour for check in, waiting to be called, review of consultation, administration of novocain, removal of old filling, new filling, curing light, hocus locus, more consultation, clean up, potty break, billing, and goodbyes) all the while repeatedly asking how I was doing, if I were in pain, etc etc. So what does Dr. Hough's office have going for it? - Friendly & qualified staff - Terrific dental hygienist who's worked for him for 12 years (that says something!) - Clean office - Quick appointment setting - Comfortable "no" waiting room - Engaging and pleasant dentist - Competent and methodical procedures - Day after follow up calls An overall delightful experience considering additional procedures outside the scope of cleaning required. My dental work is self-pay... I DO have a choice in who I select for my dental work and couldn't' be happier with Dr. Hough and his office. read more

Dr. Hough is amazing! I have been going to him for over 20 years. I was dreading having to get a crown. I finally went and it was painless and fast. Staff is friendly but prices are awful. I saw them when I had a certain insurance. It changed in between visits, so I told the receptionist, handed her my new card and she took down my new information. I was given a quote for work to be done and AFTER it was done, was told that the prices were wrong. Instead of $750 crowns, they were now over $1000, but with the same percentage covered by insurance. I asked why the different price and was told insurance sets the prices (but when asked insurance was told the dentist office sets the prices). Was also told I'd get 2 crowns and a filling, but that filling might turn into a crown, they'd let me know. They didn't and did the third one which of course I couldn't feel because my whole mouth was numb. So, I was charged for 3 crowns and got stuck with a $1000 bill because I had already met my insurance coverage quota. IF i had been quoted the correct prices (remember she had my new insurance info), I would not have had such an expensive problem because I would have refused the crown until after the new year a little over a month away. Additionally, I was to receive a new quote for the other work I needed from my insurance on what they would cover and when I got it, it was from my OLD insurance and of course was not covered. Again, after providing my new insurance to them. I never did get a coverage quote from the correct insurance and will NOT be returning because of these things. read more

Dr. Hough is a great dentist. My mom has been going to him for years and I went to him as a teen. I now take my family to him. If you are looking for a very gentle dentist he is an excellent choice. His office is very clean and modern. read more
