Doesn't give enough pain med to numb the pain. Did a root canal and left the tooth hollow and with a hole at the gum line. It was a cavity that grew into the nerve and infected. Both of my legs came off the chair the pain was so bad. Not the first time it happened. And the assistants just keep saying "just a little longer, you'll be fine". The state of dentistry in America is truly appalling and depressing, and I can't think of a more appropriate example than this dentist. I have gotten completely accustomed to no one ever asking me if I am in pain or discomfort or why I have to come in the office, they just sit you down in a chair and take a full set of x-rays and come in with a huge estimate and begin demanding to know when you're gonna put your house on the market to afford the tens of thousands of dollars of care that they insist you need immediately this man is condescending and absolutely cold. He is pushy and very transparent about his greedy and insensitive agenda he said things to me like I was going to have to come in every week and he wouldn't tolerate any no-shows or cancellations by the time I was through speaking with him. I simply told the receptionist to email me the estimate and I left Yucca Valley is a nice little community and I will try and remember it for the pretty Joshua trees in the background and not this creepy and inhuman man who somehow became a dentist. I see that I'm writing as if I can't catch my breath because I'm still so upset about going there. The drive was over an hour and it was the closest place on my Kaiser insurance. This dentist has been ours for years and we just tolerated the bad service because we didnt want to go down the hill for our plan. He has treated me so different that he does my wife. I dont know why but I have heard from other women and his female staff how difficult he is on the female gender. He is so hard on them none of his staff stays. This creates a compantcy issue. They cant your records, your co pay, coverage, straight. His work is average at best. If you have an other choice I would strongly consider it. We have moved on. read more

I made the mistake of taking them home after sitting in the chair for 2 1/2 hours while the dentist tried in vain to shape them to My mouth. Then the pandemic hit. I was running late and had to move my appointment an hour later. They had no problem doing that. I had to have a tooth extracted and was in and out in maybe 30 minutes. I didn't feel a thing and the staff were very friendly and comforting. When I read others reviews I feel like I went to a different doctor lol. As a ex-coworker I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone. I got yelled at every day even for little things such as turning the wrong lights on " it's common sense" and " my assistants are just uneducated" are some of his comments from this last week; he argues with his patients and when they raise there arm up to show they are uncomfortable or in pain he doesn't mind it and continues to work. He is cheap and his equipment is constantly breaking or rusting. He's an hour late every day and blames it on the employees when he wonders why we are falling behind on schedule. I understand I wasn't perfect and I mess up but there's a certain amount of professionalism that's required if you're a business owner and this is completely unacceptable. read more

I been going to this office for many years and endured the worst treatment from this Dr for one reason and one reason only! His office manager Michelle has been with him 7 years she's amazing and always gets anything done for me and my family if I can't get through the office I can always get through to her. I called for 2 weeks unable to get through I finally got through and asked for Michelle and she's no longer there ???? Do not see Dr. Chang. During my initial visit he was very rude when he was working on me I told him I was very uncomfortable and in a lot of pain he told me that this was nothing basically that I am a wimp, which I thought was very inappropriate. I am usually very tough, but not in this case. He yelled at me the whole time during the treatment. He kept yanking my mouth, wide-open, and yelling at me to keep my mouth open. His assistant was his abusive assistant. She assisted him in keeping my hot mouth opened and overstretched basically he belittled me the entire time. He should be not in business. I agree with one other person that the other dentist he had was really great, but he quit too. I am surprised Dr. Chang is still in practice and hasn't lost his license. Some of the staff can be nice. Some of the stuff is not nice probably because they work in a toxic environment. Do not go there go to the Morongo Basin Health Care District Yucca valley dental office. They are now listed on the insurances. Good luck everybody. read more

Dr Chang... remember when you were in my mouth and your assistant said "wow you have a small mouth?" I then said "small mouth big voice." As your assistant and myself laughed. I never like to show that big voice but in a good way. Well sadly this is not the case. It is a shame that a person should have to endure your horrible attitude and bedside manner. There is no doubt that your clientele dread letting you do work for them. You are aware that dentistry is hard for people to endure as it is... much less berating us! I have witnessed you come down on people several times, in the harshest way possible... and you have done it to me for the last time. You need to focus on keeping your mouth closed as your in our open mouths. You take ALL of our words way to personally and to heart. If you care to stay in business I suggest you make many changes. Your staff walks on egg shells, covering for your poor behavior. Your staff turnover is remarkable. Wonder why? Take a step back and analyze! Now... where I made my mistake was... I read your reviews and saw just how horrible they were. Considering my insurance would not cover me anywhere else in my area, I had no choice but to choose you. I am responsible for most of your services as my insurance only covers minimal. I've given you lots of out of pocket money and I question if your services were even needed... crown replacement, fillings, deep cleaning. The fact that before I saw you I JUST had my teeth cleaned and you made me deep clean. And when insurance is changed or updated you force another deep cleaning... extortion! Billing insurance companies and taking customer money for services not needed! When I just recently saw you, you told me I had 5 cavities. How is this I just saw you 3 months ago... losing clientele so trying to make it up on the few you have? Or is it that you did a poor examination 3 months ago? Either way... pitiful. Hear me... Dr. Chang belittles and degrades you the whole time you're in the chair! I've had 3 appointments here because of my insurance, each time he got worse and worse with his attitude.. treats you like a 5 year old child! If you don't like your career then get out of it! I WISH I would've come here first to read reviews instead of going to Dr. Chang! The first visit was an emergency extraction the second one I was told was just a check up, welp they stuck me in chair and said I had 12 cavities! 12 really? I trusted him and he drilled out 3 of my teeth and filled them, now my bite is off in my mouth and the teeth are more sensitive then ever! This last time I went in because a wisdom tooth is growing out towards my cheek. I waited hours just to be treated like I'm shit.. I did everything he instructed while he was harshly using his tools in my mouth, he seemed to be angry and agitated by my presence, yelling under his mask and getting irritated with me. Please don't waste your time here with this dentist! I've been to this dental office 20+ times due to several issues I had. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the staff. They are amazing and all of them have turned into personal friends over the past 4 months. Dr. Choi (the younger more 'basic' dentist) is SO sweet and amazing, I absolutely love him. Yes, I have had a few problems with his work, but all of them were due to my teeth. In one event my tooth cracked in half during a duel filling on it (which he fixed immediately and apologized) because one of the walls of my tooth was very thin. Dr.Chang (the older more 'experienced' dentist)....well, what do I say. Yes he can fix your teeth. That's the extent of his services. He is NOT NOT NOT a people person at ALL. In fact...I believe he hates people in general. During a root canal he had to burn the edges of these little plastic fillers. I didn't know he was going to burn them thus creating smoke (I'm asthmatic) and I coughed. He threw his hands up and walked out of the room, even after the WONDERFUL assistant said that asthma was in my charts from day one! All he had to do was warn me prior to hold my breath. It was the worst 2 hours of my life. He has openly insulted patients in front of them or within earshot. Thank god he only works Wednesdays! What I'm trying to say is any day other then Wednesday, 5 stars. Wednesdays...1 star. Just because the staff is awesome. read more

I normally don't do this but it's been heavy on my mind. Iv been dealing with Dr Chang's office for the last couple years trying to get my teeth. Each appointment was a problem. The Dr was always so rude to his staff and others. Always raising his voice. Every time I went in, there was a problem. They never fit. They said they would sent to a new lab and yet I never heard anything back. The manager is almost impossible to get ahold of . And when I did she always said she will try to fix the problem but never did. The last time I finally talked to her she told me she was working at another office and that office had a lab in it. She assured me that I would get my teeth fast and that they would fit. Even though I did not like that office I did what I had to do what I had to do to get teeth. read more

The front office workers and dental assistants are amazing but Dr. Chang is The meanest and most violent dentist I have ever had the displeasure of seeing. He rams his tools and fingers down your throat and then chastises you for gagging on them. I have been here 3 times but the first two I had another doctor work on my teeth. he is amazing fast and gentle. It is a different experience when you get him. one of the dental assistance is fairly new every time I have been in I have watched Dr. Chang verbally abuse her in front of patients and co-workers. Today she was assisting him and he was so frustrated that he would yank instruments out of her hand and berate her. The poor girl almost burst into tear in front of me. After he was finished doing what he gets paid to do in the most unprofessional manner I can imagine I was told I could leave. No after care instructions no discussion just a bad taste in my mouth "pun intended." Honestly its sad because if you can get the other Doctor I would totally 5 star and recommend them. Michelle at the front desk is a sweet heart and so is every one else. But it is Dr. Changs office and the fact is at the end of the day he is the face of his business and honestly he earned one star. not his staff not his associates. Him! This place is a rip off!!!!!! I was told that I need 2 crowns and 4 cavity fillings. That seemed weird to me because I have been taken good care o my teeth. Well, being on Medicare now, he is one of the very few dentists on the list. I had my teeth cleaned - my mouth was sore for days! He started with 2 of the so called cavities - never had problems with that tooth before. Now, I can feel cold, hot, even sore to the touch - seems that the nerve is exposed. I am grateful that I did not make more appointments! Going to my former dentist. He is not covered by my insurance - but I rather pay him than have my teeth messed up by some quack! By the way, I read that this 'dentist' is supposed to be a racist and only care for while people - well, I am white - I think he is only caring about himself and making money - I know that I do NOT need crowns replaced and I did not need that non-existing cavity filled either! I only gave one star because that is the minimum you have to choose. My actual score would be in the negative!! I will never go back!! read more

I took my mother to her dentist appointment with Dr. Chang last week. When she got there at the appointed time, they told her to come back an hour and a half later. So we did a few things in town (we both live outside of Yucca Valley). We then went back and they said her partial did not come in and they would call her next week. I was so angry when I heard that. I asked my mother why she did not ask them why they could not call her to tell her that instead of having her wait several hours sitting around for her appointment? I strongly urged my mother not to ever go back to them. How dare they treat patients this way? My mother always did complain that the office visits take such a LONG time. I was so wrong for going there but it was the only place my insurace approved besides going down the hill! 1st there is no privacy between you and the person next to you, 2nd eqipment is rusted and many tools/materials are not properly put away or in storage. 3rd the staff is not friendly nor was the doc 4th they need help with time management, my appt was at 330 ( I got there 10 mins prior) I did not get out of there til 530 and I did not get a full service not even a cleaning. They said i had to come back and i had to pay for the service before I left without even getting anything done. 5th I need more work done and they did not call or give me a sheet of what I need done or how much it would cost. They literally were shoving me out the door so they could close. (excuse me but it is not my fault you were behind schedule!) Please please please do NOT go there!! I was highly disgusted. Patients should be aware that this practice no longer does regular scheduled cleanings and does not notify you of this fact when you make the appointment. My husband and I have been patients of Chang's practice for several years. Never met Dr. Chang - we were always seen by the Loma Linda graduate students he employs, but received satisfactory care from them until November, 2014. We went in for our usual checkup and cleaning and experienced the following problems: 1. they were way overbooked - we waited 30 minutes in the office and another 30 minutes in the chair. 2. We did NOT receive the cleaning we had scheduled. When we asked about it, we were told that now they only do a cleaning if the dentist says it's necessary. We have had our teeth cleaned every six months for 30 years and if a dentist is going to make such a radical change in standard practice, they should explain their reasons clearly beforehand, so the patient can make an informed decision. We sent Dr. Chang a letter informing him of our experience. We never received an answer. read more

what horrible customer service! my family has had dr henry as our family dentist for over 6 years... as s possible dental procedure my wife needed a crown n root canal done and between my ins. snd medical they wanted 369$. we saved up and prepaid on mar 2..... 3 nites ago we were robbed, we needed our $ back so we go ti the dr and explain the situation ,we get told to wait so he can check her chart. 45 min go by and no response. i ask to see the dic i mean doc snd instead get his assistant who says it may take a while to see him... he's busy. saw him talkin to his staff10 min ago and he then couldn't take 3 min to explain to my wife, he instead takes another patient, ignoring us i ask again to see the doc. i get the assistant who just keeps saying he'll be busy and would call us at the end if the day. now mind you, 6 years we've known him , i know he can hear me complaining about these grievances and still will not just poke his head around the corner to say? anything! i get they may not have the$ rite now but our family doc hid behind his people and now they are closed and( big surprise )the answering mach is full. now i feel like a victim twice over and he won't be in his office till wed. you can be the best dentist in the world but if if you are an a$$hole people won't want to work with you. for example after we get our $ back( whenever that will be)we'll be finding a new dentist and we suggest ALL dr henry cheng dds patients do the same before you too get treated like we did! read more
