My friend…read moreasked me if I wanted to do an easy or hard class, and I told her I wanted to do a hard one thinking it couldn't be that bad. I was wrong. The burn was unreal. It was a total body workout with a lot of lower body (incredibly painful), a good amount of abs, and some upper body at the end. My friend has the most basic membership that costs $145/month for 8 classes. This seems like a reasonable price for group classes. The studio has other kinds of classes too, like spin, yoga, and HIIT. The instructor was nice, and she explained how to use the reformer. She came to correct and assist me a few times, which was helpful. One thing I struggled with was that there were no beginner modifications given at all. There were only normal options given with advanced modifications. It would have been nice to have the option to use a lower resistance or do an easier modification. While I know I could just adjust the resistance on my own, I would feel like I'm not following the instructions correctly by doing so. There was also no cooldown or stretch at the end of the class, which I am normally used to in fitness classes. Apparently it costs around $18 to buy a pair of grip socks on site. You can get a pack of three for $10 on Amazon, so I think this discrepancy is unreasonable. I understand that boutique studios want to sell boujee, high-quality gear, but they should at least have something affordable especially for the people who are just trying out their first class. I would much rather wear some used (but washed) loaner socks than pay that much for a "fancy" pair. I have heard about people not being aware they had to bring their own grip socks to class, so they were cajoled into buying socks at the studio.

The program keeps me motivated because it's a group of women all with similar goals and Shauna there to kick your butt. There are monthly health checks with Shauna to see how on track you are with your goals. The program has helped me feel more empowered and knowledgeable about using a gym and following a fitness program. I've lost weight, gained more muscle tone, and found a new confidence in a gym environment.

I felt pushed and I felt encouraged; I was getting weekly meal plans sent to me per our "contract" we were meeting at our scheduled times everything was great. However about two-three months in everything changed. It was as if I wasn't being taken as seriously because I wasn't going to compete. I stopped receiving meal plans, weigh in's stopped and the accountability that was there at the beginning wasn't there anymore.  Shauna had made it very clear when I first started personal training sessions with her that If I wanted to cancel a session I had to do so in 24 hours; if not I would lose my session. That is a common rule for most trainers, so I made sure that I did my best to cancel 24 hour ahead of time when I did need to cancel; I think I only gave less than 24 hours' notice one time in the approx 7 months I went. Shauna on the other hand canceled on me 7 times within a span of 3 months with barely any fair warning; many were either an hour or three hours before the session. Many times she would cancel on me on the spot when I had just drove all the way down to field house, however the last straw broke when she no showed on me two times within two weeks. I drove down to field house; waited for her to show and she never did. Only to be told via text that she forgot to text me; completely un-professional. She holds this standard of cancelling within 24 hours for her clients but I am PAYING HER and she can't even be professional enough to do the same. I was paying her for a service I was not receiving, she wasn't showing and I hadn't received a meal plan in months.  It was as if she just stopped caring about me as a client because she had other clients who were competing and bringing in money for her. I had emailed her and told her that I would like a refund because I couldn't continue to be cancelled on. She replied with "I am Not issuing you a refund I am sorry for any inconvenience. You are scheduled Friday at 1 pm we can do a make up Wednesday at 1". I emailed her multiple times to work things out however instead of replying back she went into my account and deleted PAID sessions from my account.  After multiple attempts to receive a refund from Shauna due to her lack of providing services I contacted the Better Business Bureau. She never responded and refused to cooperate with the investigation. I had hope that we could work this out and she would provide me a refund, honestly I thought when I sent her my request for refund she would be happy to refund me and get rid of me as a client; since I wasn't competing and she never took me seriously. Shauna currently has approx. $500 of mine that she won't refund, and has went in to my account and deleted paid session's.  Shauna is also very intense, which can be a great as a trainer if done properly except she comes off as a bully at times. I have personally heard her discount and talk about her clients negatively. She has pointed out people to me at the gym and talked destructively about them. She even brags about going up to people and shaming them in front of others; telling them they aren't ready for competition and that they have a long way to go. She creates an environment where you are on eggshells; always wondering what mood she would be in that day. When she would talk badly about others especially her own clients I knew that she had to be talking bad about me as well and that never sat well with me.  I do acknowledge that Shauna has done great things for other people, and her group classes are awesome. However I cannot support a business like this and will continue to share my experience with others.

I wanted somewhere that I would be challenged physically and would make friends. From the first conversation I had with Coach Ben, I knew 5 Hills CrossFit was that home. The programming is incredible, and you can tell that thought and strategy is put into each workout. The coaching during the workouts ensures that you are pushing yourself, but doing so with proper form and in a way that will be most beneficial to you. The coaches are ready with supplemental exercises and tips when you're struggling with a movement or if you want a little extra work on a specific area. And the community is like no other! People cheer each other on, talk to each other and there's no feeling of "being picked last in gym class" when it comes to partner workouts- everyone there wants everyone else to feel at home! We were told we could go to their other location in harker heights. We tried it out, the person at the front said all I had to do was check in as usual, and I didn't have to open another membership. The equipment is old, and some of the machines don't work. Once something's out of order it doesn't get fixed, it just sits there with an out of order sign. It is not very clean and anytime I had a question in either locations regarding membership, no one at the front desk knew the answer. There were maybe 2 occasions where I got helped by someone who knew what was going on. I went this morning to workout and was told my membership was null and that I had to make a new membership and pay all the fees again. It's only been 2 months since the temple gym shut down. I explained how I came from their other location that shut down and have been working out here since and was told I didn't need to make a new membership. I tried to open the membership again since I did really enjoy their dry sauna, but the employee did not know how to open memberships only how to check people in which anyone can do on the app, my app just wasn't working. I was made to pay for a day pass and it wasn't even worth it because after trying to figure out what was going on with our memberships I had very little time to workout. The prices are also really expensive for a gym that's very run down. I am a very patient person which is why I kept giving the gym chance after chance, but having a gym membership shouldn't be this stressful.

Let's start…read morewith the bad, they got rusted equipment which is really outdated and some machines like the leg extension have the seat pointed up putting your knees at a weird angle. Along with this there's no air conditioning which is absolutely ridiculous since it's in Texas. Like in the summer it's 90-105 degrees outside and all they have is fans, if you want heat stroke you better come here. Along with that in the winter time which is coming right now. It was 40 degrees today and all they had for heating is closing the doors. Now the good parts, the bench press has its own little lift off for you which is nice, the deadlift area has a bar that holds the bar your using so you can take weight off or put some on. They have a-lot of cardio machines which is cool. And that's all the good I see from this gym. I almost forgot to mention that the benches here suck, they are cheap and small. Overall it's overpriced and awful
