The mechanic kind of begrudgingly did, but he did it quickly and then honestly told me what the issue was, reset the code and sent me on my way. $0 dollars. Old town automotive should be avoided at all costs. Not trustworthy. I asked them if they could quickly check the code. She told me how much a full diagnostic was ($200) I should have left then. After the "full diagnostic" When I asked if they would charge me a "partial diagnostic" she said no. I asked for the Yelp check in discount $10 or $20 maybe? no. AAA discount ? No. After asking if the was anything she could do to help me out she finally caved and gave me the aaa discount because she "doesn't even subscribe to Yelp and can't understand them on the phone half the time." I don't know if it's worth noting... THE ONLY REASON I WAS THERE WAS BECAUSE OF YELP, It was 10 or $20 discount and they were already ripping me off... I regret letting my anxiety get the better of me at the start of the trip. This situation was easily avoidable. I should have just left. Still waiting for that full diagnosis btw. Boo this garage.

A day later, they called me in. They had my truck on the lift, and the mechanic, Bo Jr., walked me under the vehicle and had me touch and wiggle the front end. I agreed on the work and asked if Bo would put new rims and tires of his choice. I got a call 2 days later, and my truck looked great! Priced right! Saw some good reviews online and thought i would swing by Larry's Service Center first after making a few phone calls to check around the auto shops in town the next morning. When I first passed by the shop, I completely missed it as it is not conspicuous. All garages were closed with only a small "open" sign tucked between the windows. I had to make a U-turn and pulled up the back of the building, yet don't see any open garages. I pulled up the side of the building and walked in the door and was stumped for a moment when greeted by an elderly couple and a child. I thought I was in the wrong shop until I met Alfred in the adjacent service area. After talking to Alfred about the problem, he checked the battery's voltage and did an OBD scan. The battery is ok, and the OBD codes narrow the issue to the alternator. Alfred gave me the costs to replace the alternator, new and remanufactured. I was skeptical at first and asked Alfred to check the connections since I just had the drive belt removed for oil pump leak service before the road trip. I was concerned that the previous mechanic may not have reconnected properly. Alfred checked and didn't see any issue with the connections. Not wanting to risk another 1,500 miles around NM and back to CA, I went with the new alternator, but the new alternator turned out to be defective after installation and had to be swapped out with a remanufactured one, which was the only option at that time. I waited in the shop for both the alternator replacements, which were done swiftly. Alfred charged me for the remanufactured alternator cost and the labor is reasonable. Coming from California, I am pleasantly surprised to find such a family-oriented, personable auto shop in Bernalillo. Alfred took the time to look at my vehicle and accommodated me between several cars that he was working on to get me back on the road right before Christmas. I am glad I didn't judge the shop by the outward look, the inside is packed with over half a century of auto repair experience and as much sophisticated tools as the love of the family working together to serve the Bernalillo area. I made my way to White Sand and Carlsbad and back in California without a hitch after the repair thanks to Alfred.

I came to them after another shop in the area took me on an emotional ride (pun intended) when I went in for a 100k mile maintenance check. Long story kind of short, this other shop broke a part in my engine that caused a gnarly oil leak. They denied it, and then tried to get me to buy two new cylinder heads (for $5500, and my heads were totally fine). I was looking at buying new cars and feeling pretty overwhelmed. A friend had referred us to see Jeremy at Brown's and I am so grateful he did. Mike and Jeremy were incredibly patient with me telling them my whole saga and seemed determined to right this unfortunate wrong. Not to mention-- my brakes were replaced and there is now damage to my passenger side front bumper, and so much plastic sticks out into my wheel well that it has been scraping and damaging my wheel! They and the other driver's insurance company totaled my truck and even tried to convince me that my truck's frame was bent! And after 7 months dealing with those 2 other companies and giving them almost $10,000 my truck still wasn't fixed! A co-worker told me about Jay Walton and promised me they would take care of me and my truck.....and Jay Walton to the rescue! Even though they were given a truck that was missing the entire front end, they were brave and knowledgeable to take on the challenge! BUYER BEWARE!!! Our…read moreson purchased an exhaust system and took it to MBS to install. He paid $361.00 for the "service". The next week he took his car to our mechanic to have new break pads installed. Our mechanic informed us the exhaust system was not only installed incorrectly but it also had a leak. He fixed the problem immediately. Upon his repairs, our son's car sounded like a completely different car; the way it was intended on sounding. We returned to MBS to see how they planned to make this dillema right. They looked over the vehicle and all they really cared about was why we didn't bring it back to them to fix. REALLY?? If you couldn't install it correctly the first time why we would we trust you to install it the 2nd time. Remember we are disputing service here NOT goods. Goods are returnable, services are only as good as your word, which in this case is not existent. One of their employees even had the gall to say an exhasust leak isn't dangerous nor flammable. Apparently she's had a bit of CO poisoning! That's when I knew we weren't dealing with a business or individuals that knew what they were doing. We won't be returning to MBS and will be sure to spread the word to our immediate and extended family and friends the same advice.

These days, it's more like a three week book out, which must mean business is good. For this particular visit, we had several mileage maintenance issues that needed to be addressed. We were given a list by the Ford Dealership, and we brought that in for a quote with Cedar Crest Tire. The Ford Dealership also noted that we had evidence of an engine oil leak. I made the appointment at the beginning of July, and I got in on July 20th. They have a key drop box that we were able to use and leave the vehicle there the weekend prior. I got a call on Tuesday afternoon that my vehicle was ready for pick up. On my way into town, I swung by to pay the bill and get the key. I know that they have a ride service available, but I hoped by daughter would help me with the ride. We looked over the invoice and didn't see anything addressing the engine oil leak. He got a hold of the technician, and he said there was no evidence of a leak. Before bringing in the vehicle, I did call back to add an emissions service to the list of items, and that one was overlooked, but I wasn't billed for it either. I feel like my correspondence with them have always been professional, and my vehicles have always been repaired.
