After what happened last time, the last thing I expected was to get a message from someone. I was contacted by Vickie in my Yelp messages, and she left her contact information. I was shocked and confused, but I decided to call her anyway. She wanted to talk about what had happened and listen to my experience. She profusely apologized for what had happened and assured me that this was not how they ever treat customers. She was unsure why things were handled the way they were. Talking to Vickie was amazing, she made me feel like they actually cared about their customers. At first, I felt like they didn't care about lost business. Vickie told me that they were very sorry for what happened and that they would have a meeting with the supervisor on this past Friday with the proprietor, another supervisor, and herself. They would reflect on what happened and discuss the situation, and ensure that it will never happen again. I was shocked to hear that they took what I said so seriously. She understood that I may not want to return but offered a chance of redemption with a gift certificate so we wouldn't have to pay. I told Vickie that we were willing to give them a second chance. In the mail I received a note from Vickie, along with a gift certificate. We decided that we would use it on Thirsty Thursday with the same group as last time. She asked me to call her when we decided to come in so that she could meet us. I honestly forgot because it had been over a week. I did call her, but she had just left and got to the office. We completely understood and she told us to have a good time. Vickie is perfect with customer service and amazing at making connections with customers. We felt like she cared about us and what had happened. When we got to Shelby Lanes, we came early and got on the waiting list. We decided to get some drinks while we waited. Finally, our names were called by the supervisor from the incident. He asked us how many people were bowling and if we needed shoe rentals. He told us what lane we were in as well. He seemed much nicer. He then said something I did not expect. He asked if I could wait a moment so he could apologize to me. He apologized for how things happened and explained that he did not realize he was coming off as mean. The whole situation was a mess as is, and stressful. He was stressed out and wanted to fix the situation, and said he should have handled it better. He said he was truly sorry for the way we felt and that he should have refunded the shoes. He was caught up in a moment. We accepted his apology, and I was happy to see he really meant it. He seemed genuine. People make mistakes all the time. We were really upset too, but everyone deserves a second chance. We ended up getting a pitcher or beer and pop, then later another beer pitcher. We had a blast. We were having fun joking around and egging each other on. I decided to watch. It was a little competitive, but more so fun. We actually enjoyed ourselves with no problems. We even talked to the people next to us, and I also ran into a high school friend. When I went to the bar, I got a chance to talk to the lady that was at the counter that day, Celia. She apologized for what happened. She told us that she was really happy to see us. She also saw the review. She explained that she really does love working at Shelby Lanes. I told her we would definetely come back and that I appreciated her trying to help. I was impressed with how the supervisor presented himself. He thanked us for coming in when we were leaving. He high fived us, smiled, and laughed. You could tell that it was all genuine and that he really is a nice guy. I'm happy we gave them another chance. read more

People of Shelby..this is a bowling alley, not a 5-star restaurant. The summer kids deals are amazing, they have balls and pins and shoes and everything you need to go bowling. The problem is your expectations and ego, if you want to go bowling..thankful this place is still around. These reviews sound like you think you live in Beverly Hills, CA. It's an inexpensive, old school bowling alley in Shelby Twp Michigan. It may not be the place for a dinner date and the parking lot needs repair. If you think "I know, let's go to dinner at the ol bowling alley", and then are disappointed with the service or food there, remember..it's a bowling alley. There are other options. DO NOT BOWL HERE!!! Bowl anywhere other than here, I don't care if it's in a basement in Detroit and you get robbed in the process, it will be far better experience than any you will have here. Staff is rude and apathetic, they get your money and then act like it's too much to ask for what you paid for, broken down lanes, angry customer lined up inside, understaffed with no one to tend bar, and what little staff they do have looks like they are waiting for carnival season to start back up. I would be happy to pay their prices if they made good on their end but they don't. Charging by the hour with no notice, no timer and no grace when your game shuts down in the middle of the 9th frame. I simply asked to finish our game and was told they would gladly give us 30 min, but we would have to pay for it, forget the fact that the game we were 90% through was erased at this point and they are just looking to get more money. Vickie the manger tells my wife that I have a big mouth for being upset and protesting their business practices, then wants to exchange info in the parking lot. You had your shot to make it right, my kids and family had their day ruined because your business practices obviously show that the dollar is far more important than the experience and for that they will remember that Shelby Lanes is not a good place to go and I truly hope the rest of the community that has supported you goes elsewhere. Walked in and the bowling alley was about at 80% capacity with only about 4 people wearing masks. Very disappointed. Upon entering it says masks are mandatory but they were not enforcing it at all. We walked out with very disappointed kids looking forward to some birthday bowling. read more

The boyfriend and I were looking for something to do on a Thursday night and saw this place had $1 shoes/game/beer. However it is 1$ a person a game. We came in and the place was packed with mostly young people. The service of an older woman who ran the grill and soft drinks was TERRIBLE! Very rude, impatient, and disrespectful. I ordered Bosco sticks, on the menu it says you get 3 I asked her seeing I was only given 2 and she said you get three of the smaller pizza ones and two of the cheesy. There was NO clarification of even pizza sticks on the menu and I think she should have told me when I ordered. We had an alright time over all. Not sure if i will return given the bad food and service. read more

HORRIBLE!! On their website it said they were starting open bowling at 5 but, when we got there they said at 4:30 they close open bowling to do leagues. It should be posted on the website what happens on Saturdays so people don't drive there and expect to go bowling just to get shut DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I suck at bowling, but it's still fun. Shelby Lanes has open bowling after 9pm on Saturday. Think it was $18 for shoes and 2 games for 2 people. Not sure if that's good or bad, but still cheaper than the movies...even with our enormous pitcher of beer. Good times. Oh yeah, one disturbing thing...wtf with the people bringing their young kids to bowl late at night? Seriously, kids under 6 going bumper bowling when we left around 11pm. Took the kids here today for their fun pack special they offer on snow days and vacation days. The gets got shoes, 2 games, soda, and a choice of a hot dog, popcorn, or soft pretzel all for under 8 dollars a kid. This was a great way to let the little ones get their pent up energy out on the cheap! As far as the ally goes it was clean. I witnessed the folks behind the counter cleaner tables after bowlers left and they were always quick to help out on the lanes when the little ones didn't throw the ball quite far enough. My one complaint is the woman working the food counter. She was very unfriendly and rude. Such a shame when people with personalities like that end up working with the public. I was going to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I noticed someone else had a similar experience a few months back so I'm going to assume it's the same lady. read more

I have never had a problem here, and I have been going for about 10 years now, plus it was my home alley in high school. If you go when they have open bowling specials, it is super cheap. Otherwise it is fairly priced. They put in synthetic lanes about 4 years ago. Beer prices are pretty cheap too. Food is typical bowling alley food...frozen food that is fried or grilled. It is a cool, small alley though. read more

My son just started bowling on there Saturday morning league. His name got picked for the "star of the week" . The woman in charge of that was soon sweet. Took pictures, interviewed him and posted everything on there website. She made my son feel so special. A week ago I had his 5th birthday there with about 11 kids and there parents . Pizza and soda included and 2 lanes of bowling. Under 200 bucks! We walked in they had everything decorated for us and Ariel, our "party host" was so sweet and accommodating. Everyone had a great time. I really was surprised. They did alot more than I had expected. I like supporting family business's. My son has made new friends and I love that he is a part of a team on his league but I'm not being raped financially in order to let him experience that. Thanks shelby lanes:) read more
