First time trying this place. I was CRAVING Ethiopian food and have been for a while. I got the vegetable combination. Be warned!! The yellow stuff on this platter is SPICY!! There were quite a few things that were a little spicy on this plate but that yellow stuff had my eyes and nose running. The flavors are pretty good and the injera was really good. So...I have been craving Ethiopian Food and Sheba's did not disappoint! I called in my order and 20 minutes later, my wonderful husband was coming through the door with what I've been JONESING for! As soon as I opened the box; I was swaddled like a wee babe by the inebriating scents of Berber Spices. Sheba's Selection offers your choice of 2 meats and 2 vegetables. I got the Lamb Tibs, Beef Wot, Collard Greens, and Lentils. The Lamb was tender and succulent from the slow simmered tomato sauce and spices. The Beef was loaded with spicy pieces of jalapeños, onions, and Rosemary. Both had me dreaming of the leftovers I was determined to have, so I could relive the joy of each morsel. The collard Greens were well seasoned and still had a little crunch which was a nice texture balance for the meal. The Lentils were spicy and full of life and flavor. But my FAVORITE was the Injera! There is something so satisfying about tearing pieces of tender injera and using it shepherd in the savory goodness that is Ethiopian Cuisine. In my opinion the fermentation of the Teff batter is what makes Injera so special. It lends a slight acidity to anything that has the privilege of being cloaked in the simple, naturally Gluten-Free "bread"(for lack of a better word). We ordered Ethiopian beer ( which was amazing) and a couple of appetizers to start off with. Sambusa - Seasoned lentils with Onions and jalepanos wrapped in pastry sheet and deep fried And Kitfo - Steak tartar served from selected lean ground beef seasoned with spiced butter and bird'd eye chili pepper (mitmita). My wife can't eat overly spicy foods but was able to enjoy both appetizers (kind of apprehensive at 1st about eating raw meat but she found out during this that she loves Steak Tartar) After the appetizers I had the Dallas Special- Meat cubes marinated and sauteed with onions, jalapeno, and black peppers cooked medium rare. *Loved it! And my wife had the Short Ribs -Beef ribs seasoned with black pepper and special spices, grilled. The ribs were a little over cooked but very tasty and enjoyable. Our friend went all out and ordered the Best of Ethiopia Combination plate - Doro wot, kitfo, wiht a choice of Lamb and Beef tibs with house Vegetable This combination plate is huge and can easily feed three people so we all shared this. Everything on the combination plate was amazing even though I couldn't tell what everything was I was eating just by site alone other than the Duro Wat & Steak Tartar. First time here! My friend and I walked in. We're Kenyan & Nigerian but enjoy Ethiopian food. Since no waitress greeted us, we figured it was self seating so we sat down by the booths. Not too long after we sat down, we were waited on. The waitress had a somewhat cold demeanor but that was okay. As we waited for our food, a white & southeast asian couple came in. They were promptly greeted at the door with a smile and seated. What was funnier is they sat close to us and when they asked the waitress for salt, she immediately reached over and took the only salt from our table without asking or even saying "excuse me" to us hahah We'll brush this off but Sheba's- please do better. I have been to Shebas Ethiopian kitchen quite a few times. I'm a regular of getting the Shebas select! Ethiopian good is full of flavor and regularly compared to Indian food because of the spiciness of both dishes. Shebas dishes are made with excellence! I absolutely love ordering their kitfo and yes I order Raw Kitfo! Yum! I also love the beef Tibs! It's very similar to beef kabobs and both dishes are full of flavor and spice! I truly enjoy the dishes because you definitely get the band for your buck! I normally have enough food to eat and indulge in later on. The reason why this restaurant lost a star is because of service. Sometimes the service is lacking! It can be very hit or miss! I recommend take out because they do make it very fast! I know some folks are gonna be like "wha?" when they see my rating, but stick with me. Y'all, I love Ethiopian food. It's DELICIOUS and I get to eat with my fingers thanks to injera bread. So imagine the power of my u-turn as I was driving down Forest headed to mass when I glanced and saw Sheba's. I'm not gonna lie, I'm kind of a snob after living in LA and eating in Little Ethiopia. ZOMG the food is the bomb on that strip and I have to say that although each place was a bit different than the next one on the strip, they all had one thing in common- GOD AWFUL customer service. Honestly, I've never been to an Ethiopian restaurant with what we consider great customer service in the US, so when I look up Ethiopian joints I only care about the quality of the food. Let me tell you that Yelpers were so right. The food was DELICIOUS and the honey wine was so on point. To be honest, I expected way worse customer service so I was pleased that the waitress really tried to help me understand what I was ordering. I loved her "are you sure" face regarding me wanting my Kitfo raw, but she was cool about it. I was pretty much left alone to eat and was checked on once, which is my preference, and thanks to the Yelp tips, I had my money ready immediately so I did not have to wait for them to come back to collect. Very good food! The beef tibs I got were on point. The only thing is, the waitress went out of her way to make me and my friend feel unwelcomed. We are both white Americans and she very clearly did not want us in the restaurant. I noticed that she was very friendly with every other party that came into the restaurant (they were all Ethiopian), spending time at each of their tables talking and laughing with them. But with us, she was different. She made a face at my friend when he gave her his order. Then, she made herself very scarce. We had trouble getting basic service like water refills. I had to stare at her for a long time while she was hanging out, chatting with customers at the bar, before she finally came over. I mean like for 5-10 minutes I kept turning around a looking directly at her. She saw me each time but didn't care. When we were leaving, I thanked her and told her how much we enjoyed the food. She just said, "ok", then turned around and walked away. My friend and I were both polite and respectful, and there was no reason for her to treat us that way. I hate to label anyone as a racist, but this lady very clearly is one. I hope she learns that racism is wrong and that it's not nice to be hateful toward people. read more

I had never tried Ethiopian food until I went to Sheba's and now I sort of crave it all of the time. It's ridiculously cheap but the service does take a little while on non-peak hours. Very quiet, nice atmosphere. If you've never tried it before, go for it. You eat wit your hands and the dishes are all very unique. The flavor pallet and spices very singular, like Indian food but very distinct. The food is usually served on a injera, the spongy, huge flatbread with a few extra rolls to use to eat your food with. A bunch of cool sauces and vegetables usually accompany these dishes and all are worth a try. I ordered either the Menchet Abesh or the Kitfo, a ground beef dish that was fantastic with huge portions for the very low cost. I certainly wouldn't call myself an expert or anything near that in this cuisine, but I enjoyed it. Buff! I'm seriously surprised by the rating of this place. I was not pleased with thr food whatsoever and it made me sick! Firstly, we arrived and waited in the lot for thirty minutes on a Sunday because they don't open until noon. When noon rolled around we continued to wait. We saw two other couples walk up to the locked doors and left after realizing it was fifteen after noon and the doors were still locked and open sign still off. I decided to call and asked if they were open today and the female on the phone said yes.. I instructed her to open the door. Ten more minutes later the Hubs pounded on the door.. They nonchalantly opened the door and didn't apologize. Strike one.. Of course we were the first patrons inside... After forty minutes of their posted open time and my full bladder I needed to.alleviate myself.. I found out that the janitor was still cleaning the bathroom.. BUMMER! Why aren't you prepared? Strike two.. We ordered ETHIOPIAN TEA after asking if they had it because not all ethiopia establishments have it. She assured us they had it.... she brought out a cup of hot water with cinnamon sprinkles and a lipton ice tea packet... Strike three.. I should be out right? But we ordered because we were starving and on our way back to the 'Port so we wanted something in our stomachs. We got the veggie platter and some spicy meat boneless thing cooked.medium. YUCK!
