I have been going to Artana (owner) for manny years. My haircut was suggested from a guy in 1975 but I was not ready to go from really long hair to above shoulder length. However, when I told Artana about the cut in 2000, she followed through. It has been the best haircut I've ever had. Sometimes I let it grow a bit longer but it still works well. The drawback in recommending Sheer Expectations is that they don't take many new clients right now. It's mostly Artana and her sisters that do it all. read more

Amazing hair cut. They were able to slip me in extremely last minute. Professional and courteous. My hair dresser did a great job. Took her time and made sure that I was completely happy. She taught me how to style my new look as well. Clean and inviting facilities. Lots of products available for purchase. Friendly staff. Private ish hair cutting booths. You are able to talk without hearing anyone else around you. Prices were reasonable and I always believe that you get what you pay for. I was given this location's name from another salon because they had to cancel my hair appt the day before my graduation day. Thankfully this place had a spot available the same day a few hours after I called. Once I got there I was seated promptly and the staff was really friendly. Now after that is where the trouble began. My stylist started doing my hair and I thought everything was going great until she tried to dry and fluff my hair while it was still mostly wet. My hair came out....just awful! My curls were dry, crunchy, flat, and just didn't look good. Apparently my face said it all plus my comments in attempt to get some help to make my curls looked better, my stylist offered to do it again. I was literally in tears plus very stressed out. My stylist did my devacurl transformation all over again. The second time around, she asked me what method or technique I used to get my hair the way that i like it as well as asked advice from a fellow colleague who I guess was also a DevaCurl specialist. I'm not sure what happened the first time but the second time came out a lot better. But going through two different washes I wasted almost 3 hours of my time and still got charged almost $60 for the service. The first attempt definitely could've been better if I was asked what I wanted my curls to look like and the technique that I used as a guide to get started. Everyone was super nice, but the price and the mishap definitely will keep me away. I'll just stick with my old tried and true salon next time. read more

Shear Xpectations has a great advantage of being able to make an appointment online or even through the Yelp app. They also send reminder texts, which is great because id much prefer texts to calls. One thing I will bring to light is this is definitely more expensive compared to other salons; however, given the location and quality of service, I can see why they charge as much as they do. Their hair cut minimum is $45, that's without shampoo and wash. I made an appointment the day before, and thankfully they had an opening. Their location is conveniently located off Garners Ferry, right across the street from Hickory Tavern. I was running a bit late, and was able to text them ahead of time. When I walked in, they were very nice and understanding. I was able to enjoy the company of Liz, who did a great job. One of the things I dread most about going to the salon is awkwardly sitting there making small talk and then not talking because we've run out of things to say. Liz is very personable in that I never felt awkward. She seems to work effortlessly, without sacrificing quality. Overall, the only thing that would prevent me from coming back is the price. I have short hair, so it's a bit pricey for a trim. However, it would be moderately priced for someone who often changes their hairstyle. read more

I am so happy with my hair after seeing Hailey! I was a walk in appt and needed something to fix the damaged, bleached and rough hair I had gotten from another salon that week. I ended up getting a haircut and glaze on my roots. It looked amazing. I went from long layers (that was completely tangly and unmanageable at this point) to a long bob with textures. The glaze blended the choppy bleach lines I had near my root and calmed the color down. Hailey listened to everything I wanted and she explained every step that she was going to do. She made sure I was comfortable when cutting my hair because I told her I've always had long layers. But she did an awesome job and it was a great transformation! I am very confident that she understands my taste and vision when it comes to my hair. And she makes it happen. That's all you really want in a hairstylist. I was recommended to this salon by my son's friend who is a customer because I got a "haircut gone bad" by another salon. After reading yelp reviews, I called and they were able to work me in on my time schedule. I was scheduled with Lynn. When I first walked in I was impressed with the waiting area and the salon area. I explained what happened with the haircut and the "special needs" of my course hair. Lynn listened and took the time to talk with me and put me at ease with the dry cut she was going to give me. Lynn also took the time to give my the history of the salon and how it is a family run business. Not only did Lynn fix the bad haircut I received she took 1 hour to give me probably the best haircut I have had in a long time. She would not let me out of the chair until I was happy with her results. Where else do you get that kind of service??? Although I live in Birmingham AL, I do visit my USC kids quite often and I will be sure to schedule my haircuts on my visits. Thanks Lynn!!! read more

I love this salon. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful, I always receive a warm welcome, and most importantly, my stylist, Carly, is amazing. She is super-professional and I love the way she colors, cuts, and styles my hair. I also get my brows waxed here and Bobbie is fantastic. She's so sweet and kind, and my brows look incredible after she fixes them up. From the outside, this salon looks kind of blah, but the inside is really nicely decorated and comfortable. Sydney is literally the BEST stylist I've ever gone to. I have loved every single cut I've had done, and these last two cuts... ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. She listens to what you want, and is one of the few stylists who has been willing to cut my bangs to a shorter length like I like. My hair has layers, texture, and a shag and no longer feels boring like it has after past haircuts. I've been getting my haircut here with Lynn for the last 3 years and I will always. The staff there is always very friendly and helpful. There are times where I need a quick haircut and they always seem to find a way to squeeze me in. They also offer massages which I've gotten before and I need to get more often. A lot of hair products as well. There are far more women's products available which isn't surprising but they do have some men's products. They carry the popular Paul Mitchell men's products as well as some Bed Head and other brands. The products they carry may cost a little more than what you could get at target but they are all quality. I always feel guilty when I have to get a haircut elsewhere when they can't squeeze me in because the experience here is the best. read more

I had the BEST experience at this salon. I haven't had my hair done in about two years because I'm leery of just anyone cutting and styling my curly hair. Chelsea was my stylist and did such an amazing job! Not only did she do such an amazing job, she also explained everything she was doing, using, and what I needed to do at home to keep my curls perfect. I have never been anywhere where the stylist did that. I left with so much more knowledge about my curls than I did coming in with. Very professional, friendly, and well kept salon! Bobbie IS amazing! She is so sweet and does a great job. I have followed her from her old salon and have two other friends who see her as well. I'm very picky about my eyebrows and always walk out happy. The reason they don't get 5 stars is because I've had SEVERAL incidences where the receptionist or whoever answered the phone booked my appointment wrong so there wasn't enough time for BOTH services I tried to schedule. I had Jenny to do a partial highlight and cut. She charged me $190. After two and half hours, I finally got out of the salon, I looked at my hair, it still has dark roots, it was as bad as I walked in. This is my first time in this salon. She was very curious about me and asked lots of personal questions and made me very uncomfortable. I thought she was just being friendly. After she put all the foil papers on my head, she took me to the back room, which to me is like a vending machine room. I was not offered water or any kind and just sit in the room for a very long time, no heating for my hair to help the color. I don't think she knows how to blow dry hair, she made such a mess of my hair and offered to wash again to blow dry again. I told her it's okay because I am going home after this. Don't go to this salon, if you are shopping around for a good salon, this is not a good one. read more

Very nice people, good experience, until I had to pay. I got a trim, not a haircut, however was told that the trim was the same price as a haircut. I went to this salon a year ago and a trim cost about 25$ as opposed to the 40$ I paid this time. I didn't look any different besides getting dead ends cut off. So with a 5$ tip, it came out to 45$. Ridiculous. I felt ripped off. I will not be coming here again if I need a trim as I can get it for less, elsewhere. read more

one word...BOBBIE! I saw Bobbie when she worked at Logan Raye and I was in college, and I have never, ever had a better brow wax since. I have very full, flat eyebrows, and Bobbi somehow magically shaped them while still leaving them full. She also used this concealer with aloe in it after she was done, so I could run errands after the appointment without feeling embarrassed. This may sound strange, but I would always get compliments on my brows after having them waxed by Bobbie. I now live in NYC and am still upset that I cannot visit Bobbie to get an amazing eyebrow wax. All the girls I know who visit Bobbie fall in love too-- so do yourself a favor and try it out! I truly believe I will NEVER get a brow wax like the wax from Bobbie, she's AMAZINGGG. Even living in NYC. read more

I went to this place with a pretty bad haircut and I needed some help in getting it corrected. I called and made an appointment and they put me with stylist Carly. One word.. wow. She was the absolute best stylist I have ever had touch my hair in my life. She was incredibly friendly and precise. We had a delightful conversation while she cut my hair and it really made my day. So often when you go to a salon it can be awkward when your stylist never makes conversation - definitely not the case here. I was in and out in no time at all with an amazing haircut. Every piece of hair falls exactly where it should, and there's no piece out of place. I will continue to go to Carly and Shear Xpectations. Seriously a fantastic job. Blair has been cutting my hair at Shear Xpectations for about 3 years now, and I have left happy every time. A few other girls there have cut my hair when Blair was on maternity leave, and they were all great, too. They are also much more reasonably priced than other salons offering the same level of service. The only downside is that the esthetician who does mani/pedi and waxing doesn't work on Saturdays. read more

I had my hair colored red from this salon and it was excellent it was exactly what I wanted the senior stylist recommended a certain shampoo and conditioner to keep the color. I wasn't too sure about it that day because I just spent a bunch of money as it was. I got to thinking about it and I had my mother go back the next day and had her get it. She told the receptionist what she was looking for and the receptionist even went back to check with the senior stylist to make sure it was the right shampoo and conditioner. I ended up spending over $90 for this shampoo and conditioner. I ended up using something else that was store bought for red dyed hair. Well I recently went to another salon and had it dyed purple and I want to keep the color in so I was going to use the $90 shampoo and conditioner today when I realized it's not for colored hair but for curly hair which I do not have at all. I am unable to return it so I am out of my money and have shampoo and conditioner that I can't use which we took the word of a senior stylist that said to use that product. read more
