Avoid this place at all costs. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I came in for a massage expecting a relaxing experience, but it turned into the worst massage I've ever had. My massage therapist was Tori. During the session, I noticed she kept removing one hand and then immediately using it again. While I was lying face down, I couldn't see what she was doing. Once I turned over, I looked up and saw her repeatedly rubbing or wiping her nose with that same hand before continuing the massage without sanitizing it. I found this extremely unsanitary and unprofessional. It completely ruined what should have been a relaxing experience. I've had many massages over the years, but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. It has honestly made me afraid to ever book another massage because I can't stop thinking about the lack of basic hygiene I witnessed. A gift given by my daughter and a gift in itself. What a spa experience I had here. First time doing a massage and loved it! I was greeted at the front by professional and friendly staff. Shown the way to the changing room and where I could wait after. I was so comfortable changing into my robe and placing my belongings in one of the lockers. I proceeded to wait and have some tea. I was called by my massage therapist a bit later. I had a 60 minute massage and loved it. So relaxing and peaceful. The lights the smells the quietness of the space. Urban Nirvana has been my go to for multiple services while I've lived in Columbia the last several months. I started with getting my hair did by Chris! He's a fairly new fit to the salon, but he was the right fit for me. Before my first appointment, I came in to chat with him so my hair would be perfect. He took his time to ask questions and really get the products right. The end result? Perf. I kept coming back. I would keep coming back if I wasn't moving! My hair grabs the color fast, but the 2 hours always flew by. We had great conversation every session and he remembered a lot. He also knows some Russian so we always shared discussions over that. Then I learned Urban Nirvana also offers waxing services! I do the works: Brazilian, leg, under arms and brows. Sometimes all in one session, sometimes I break it apart. I never had a tech preference and always left satisfied enough to keep re-booking. The online booking process made it super easy for me to book a wax session when my work schedule starting getting flexible. For my last visit, I even tried out their massage services! I had to treat myself to a birthday massage. They provide you with a locker and a plush robe, and then you wait in the lounge. On the Salon side, Hannah B did a phenomenal job with my dry and damaged hair! I'm a little hair-illiterate when it comes to asking for what I want, so she basically had to read my mind. My favorite part was that she could tell I was a little more introverted and didn't make me do the hours of "small talk" that a hair appointment usually entail. She took great care of me and I would definitely recommend her to anyone! On the Spa side, Kelli M always takes care of me. I got my an eyebrow and my first Brazilian wax, and she is just fantastic. I would come back if I lived in the area.my only issue with the massage is that I asked twice for it to be harder and got denied for fear of causing pain. It just felt like I was being oiled and rubbed with cold hands of 60 minutes. I've oiled turkeys the same way before putting them in then oven. UPDATED REVIEW BELOW. If I had rated this place based on my first experience with Hannah B I would have given 5 stars, but this last visit has ruined it for me. I will not be going back and steering my friends away. I booked a haircut and caramel balayage for $188. After everything was through I was told my total was $253!!! I asked why and they said for the bond and gloss? Nobody ever told me I was going to be charged extra for anything or asked me first... and then at the end when Nadia went to curl my hair she said "my curler isn't getting hot" but proceeded to curl my hair with it. As you can see in my photo, the curls didn't hold and she asked if that was okay, and I said it's fine (because it was already 30 mins past the time allotted) however as you can see in the receipt I'm charged a $10 thermal style!? Straight up robbery and I am so disappointed because I really liked this place. Will be requesting a refund and not returning. Update: The manager ended up calling me about my experience and giving me a COMPLETELY FREE appointment to fix it. This session with Jonathan was half the time and a thousand times better. I got exactly what I wanted. I paid the full price as gratuity. I guess your experience really depends on your stylist with them. I WILL be back with Jonathan. read more

Excellent experience! I used to go to UN 4 years ago prior to moving to Hawaii. I loved it then. My stylist is no longer there. Through the grapevine I was told to go to Lili. I'm so glad I did. Not only is she really sweet and fun to talk to, she's really passionate about hair. We looked at pictures and discussed what I liked but also she explained reality vs expectations. I had a bit of damage from a previous salon experience and Lili took all that into consideration to protect the integrity of my hair. She did a fantastic balyage! I'll post pictures later. I should mention the shampoo massage was heavenly! The look of the salon is beautiful and luxurious. I've been getting Brazilians regularly for years. My normal salon was closed for an emergency, so I took a chance here. The girls out front were wonderful, the girl that did my wax (Lexi) was nice, easy to talk to, but that's where the good ends. After my service she said there were 4-5 short hairs that would come out at my next wax... um, no you should pluck those, but whatever. I could definitely see some fine hairs when I looked before I dressed, ok, I'll handle that. When I got home and showered I discovered tons of hair remaining. I might as well have paid for a bikini wax if she's not going to get it all. Thanks for leaving me to shave off everything that was left. Not sure how they charge around $15 more than most places in the Columbia area for a subpar job. Never again. read more

Pro: I can't complain about the job that was done to my hair..because my hair stylist, Hannah b did a good job. She made beautiful highlights at the top of my head and I walked out of the salon looking better than I did walking in. Con: I live 2 hours away so my consultation had to be done same day as my appointment. When I called in, they told me that my stylist was a level 2 and her balayage started at $104. After my consultation, my stylist said it would be nearly $300. That was much more than I expected.. so we agreed on all-over highlights for $160. She ended up only doing a partial highlight and still charging me $160. If I had known I was getting a partial highlight for $160 I would have just stayed in my town. I left for a balayage.. so I wish the communication had been better. I am disappointed that I was told $160 for all over highlights and she only did a partial. I won't be going back to her.. even though the highlights she DID do looked good. I understand that this is her career, but if I'm told $160 for an all-over highlight directly from the stylist, that's what I'm expecting. read more

My husband went today to the Forest Drive location for an hour massage. When I booked the girl told me that Barbara was the best out there and she is one of the oldest employees since the place started and it was nearly impossible to get an appointment with her... blah.. blah.. Okay, so he went today and he said he felt rushed from the moment he entered. She said in the beginning "we only have an hour, so lets get started." (Why would you tell a customer that???) His problem area was his legs and he clearly told her that he wants his legs to be targeted more. But she barely touched his legs. When massage was over she said she has a cup of water for him. When he opened the door, she was right at the door waiting like she did not want to waste a single minute. He said they had some bridal massage booked and the whole lobby was packed with people. It could be the reason why they were rushing but nonetheless every customer's satisfaction is pivotal to run a business. He had to rebook with Massage Envy to get another massage targeting his legs. So disappointed. I don't think we will be going here anymore. read more

I waited a whole year to get my hair done because for one, it's very expensive here in Columbia and two, I didn't know who I could trust. With this salon being a little more pricey and booking with the next available stylist, who was also more expensive because I'm guessing she was more experienced? The starting price for a full highlight was $168. When I spoke with my stylist in the salon she told me by the pictures I showed her that a balayage would be better. I told her that was fine, I knew it was a little more expensive, but I thought it would look good. When she finished I looked at my hair and it looked great. I went home and later that night put my hair up to get into the shower and this is what I saw... I was very upset because the total for my hair, an eyebrow wax, and a $20 tip, came to $320. I called the salon the next day to talk to the manager to see about getting a refund or fixing my hair. They made an appointment for the next week to fix it. When I went in to see the same stylist, she asked me what was wrong with my hair. I showed her these pictures and even parted my hair and showed her the hard lines where my root stopped and where the highlights began. She said it was because she had done a balayage and that the bleach wasn't suppose to go to the root. I understand that, but it's suppose to be a softened root. She asked me what I wanted her to do about it....? I told her I just wanted the roots softened. She told me she could do a toner which could possibly soften it? Or give me a few baby lights. We decided on the baby lights, that she only put around my hairline, put me under the dryer for about 35 minutes, and then washed it out. At this point I was a little concerned because she didn't use a toner, but again I trusted her. She gave me a blow out and free samples of the overly priced products they sell in the salon. My hair came out yellow in the front and I had to tone it myself twice at home. Needless to say, I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED in this salon. For it to be that expensive, I should have left there 100% satisfied. read more

I've been seeing Elena approx every 3 weeks for months and am happy to report she is a genius. I'm a female and have short hair (pixi type), so I'm pretty particular about the cut/ style. I cannot recommend her enough. You can tell she is passionate and truly loves her work, which is perhaps why she is so talented. Elena understands bone structure, hair type, and how to make it all work together. As for the Urban Nirvana itself, cute and trendy place. Prices can be steepish, my cut/ shampoo is 50$ without tip. After showing my stylist a photo of my goal bangs twice, the end result was absolutely nothing like what I had asked for. The trim was well done and was a good length. Forty minutes before my appointment, I received a text that "[u]nfortunately the stylist that we had you booked with for your 5:00pm blowout is going to be unable to take you" because "[h]er client before you has unexpectedly taken longer than we have thought." I have been to the salon many times. I have never really been satisfied with any of my results, but they've never been terrible. It is close, and I can usually get a same day appointment. But, this last time I went for balayage highlights and the stylist completely ruined my hair. There is a stark line of where the highlights started 2.5 inches away from my scalp, so she basically gave me terrible roots. I didn't even want her touching my hair to fix it, so I have spent over $400 at other salons to get my hair somewhat back to normal. Went with my friend for high/low lights and the stylist forget the highlights. called and was rescheduled to have them put in and stylist was so upset at me that she did not do the normal process. she took the bleach and just blobbed it on in huge chunks. It was late so I decided not to have it dried by her. When I got home my hair have orange and I mean orange patches of color. It was horrible. I called back never received any type fix or recommendations to fix my hair. The massage therapists are extremely attentive and will cater to any ailments or conditions you have. The dim lighting in the massage rooms and music is perfect and really lends to relieving stress. Surprisingly, one of the best parts of Urban Nirvana isn't the massage, but the shower! Their showers are decked with different body washes and creams, my favorite being anything by Archipelago. Some would say that Urban Nirvana is expensive, but the price is a reflection of the service and experience you will receive. I highly recommend Nadia, a stylist. On a last minute whim, I booked a same day appointment at the salon. The online booking process was so easy! The salon was clean and gorgeous, which I expected. What was a pleasant surprise was the Vibe of the staff. There was a professional comraderie and mutual respect among the employees. I felt like they all loved being there which was contagious amongst us customers. We have all been to salons and spas where you felt like the staff was putting up a front, behind the scenes pettiness and fake smiles. My stylist was Nadia! I gave her quite a challenge with my hair goals. Many stylists before her either didn't get my vision, damaged my hair, or were befuddled how to proceed. I had my hair done by Brittany (highlights/color/cut). While she was very nice during my first visit, I was unhappy with the results...especially given the $275(ish) price tag. My roots were orange instead of blonde (she called them "warm") and the cut was not layered properly for curly hair. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and went back for cut correction. She seemed very unhappy to see me, tried to cut my hair dry (she eventually gave up and washed it) and then claimed she didn't have time to style it. I walked out with wet hair and a bad taste in my mouth. Sadly, I will not be back. read more
