Tried this place after doing a search on Zumba classes and I'm glad I did. When I work out, the whole reason I'm working out, is so I can look great. I don't want an audience of dudes gawking and hawking at me if you know what I mean. Well I found my place. This upstairs, medium sized dance studio is just what the doctor ordered. The teacher Terrine does her thing teaching you, but doesn't get involved walking around telling you what posture you should be in, or how to stand, lean, stretch-- you get the idea. This is why I think this class is great for all fitness levels and ages. If you've got great stamina, you will get a great work out. If you've got a poor stamina, you'll still get a great workout because you'll be inspired by others in the class that will NOT judge you because they are there to do one thing: get their ZUMBA on! Terrine also teaches pilates and yoga -- all GREAT workouts! Get there at least 15 minutes early so you can get lot parking otherwise, you'll have to park on the street. Yelp yourself! read more

I'm 68yrs old. My 8yr old grandson, saw a pic if me when I was 18. 1968. I was working, self-sufficient and surfing with my friends. My hair was long, below my shoulders. He asked if I had a ponytail and I don't ever remember if I ever put it in a ponytail. He challenged me to grow my hair long enough to try and I agreed. Theresa took the time to evaluate my style and create a custom cut just for me. I love the style cut and found the right artist for what I needed. I will continue to request Theresa and maintain my new look! read more

***This is for their Zumba Class!*** My girl Lupe knows her Zumba! I have taken a couple of her classes at various locations and she kicks butt!!! She just settled here last week for Wednesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 pm. This location was a little hard to find, located in a strip mall type of place, in an upstairs location. It's not big at all. So this place offers not only hair styling but various types of dance/workouts including Zumba and Cabaret! Lupe's class is always intense, you are guaranteed to leave dripping with sweat and your buns burning! It's $8 a class and worth every penny! I recommend her class to everyone, even the guys! We always have a lot of fun, laughing and shaking our buns! Even Lupe's mom gets down!!! So come prepared with a towel, plenty of water, and lots of energy!!!! read more

My review is based on my first visit at Shear Rhythm with Cecilia, stylist and colorist. This place is tucked away, but if you're heading towards some stairways, you're going the right direction! I found this salon through Living Social with the deal for $49 for a cut, color, and style. I also added highlights to the lower part of my hair for additional $20. Deal! The salon itself is tiny, but it has all the essentials needed for a great cut. Salon Rhythm has five stylist, but I think they average about 2-3 stylists a day depending on the time. It wasn't crowded and I was kindly offered a small bottle of water when I arrived. Since I'm a new customer for Cecilia, I can tell she's feeling me out on what kind of customer I am...picky, wild, experimental? As she examined my hair, I told her what I was looking for today. She gave a little input, but not pushy with her thoughts. Here's the low down: Highlights added in foil, layered Colors comes in to the rest of my hair with the foils intact I was asked to sit in the drying station without actually using the dryer for my hair Time passed Got my color washed out Shampoo and Conditioned (cringe, I hate shampoo that foams) My hair then gets snipped away Blow dry and Style Overall, the whole procedure took 1hr and 45mins. I am satisfied with my cut, color, and highlights. What I like most about my experience was that Cecilia took care of me from beginning to end...I really hate it when I make an appointment with a stylist, but end up being taken care of by 3 different stylists with my main stylist giving directions, boo! I would say my cut was simple, so I didn't get to challenge Cecilia's skills. I would love to come back and see what else Cecilia can do with my hair! Thank you Cecilia, you did an amazing job with my color and highlights! Wonder if my friends will notice the change, we shall see...cheers! read more

Have you ever gotten home after a cut and realize you got a lousy cut? That's what happened to me. I don't recommend Cecilia at all. What a big disappointment and waste of money. I had my hair done by Cecilia 5 days ago. I purchased a $30 Groupon and was told to have her do my hair since Groupons are for girls who are trying to build their clientele. Cecilia told me she has cut hair for 19 years, so I felt relatively confident. Theresa did my hair a few weeks earlier and gave me a nice cut. She would not take the Groupon, but gave me a little discount to try her. She really cleaned up a mess from a previous stylist at a different location. Cecilia was supposed to trim it up, basically follow the lines Theresa made. I told her I like to keep it in a pony tail when I work out, so not too short on the sides. Now I wear a pony tail with pieces of hair falling down on each side. I told her to clean up the bangs. She hardly touched them -- they are too long and also uneven. I told her to shape around my face at an angle. It wasn't done. The way it was curled when I walked out, I didn't notice at the time. Lastly, my hair is not blended at all and is thicker on one side. How can you mess up so much? Definitely not going back to her! Kicking myself for giving her a $6 tip on top of it all -- very undeserving. As far as Theresa, the owner, she did a very nice job, but her price of $58 (or did she say $56) is way too high for me since I like to get my hair done more often. Too bad. Now to share with my Facebook friends. read more

Got a discount on amazon local for Shear Rhythm for a cut, color, and style. Um...they're pretty much amazing. It's a dance studio/hair salon so when you're done shaking your money maker, you can get your hurrr did! Cecilia did mine and it was an AMAZING job! She turned a color disaster into a work of art. It's a shame you can't see it from the street, but it's worth going. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

Theresa is amazing! After having been a loyal client to Salon Allure for the last 11 years, I never thought I would switch. But after a bad perm that fried my hair, I was fortunate enough to meet Theresa who brought my hair back to life! Her salon is private and comfortable. I like that it's not packed full of people that are being worked on all at the same time. She takes her time and makes you feel relaxed. She is a great conversationalist and the time just flies by. She is also a perfectionist so she is thorough about making sure you are fully satisfied with her work. She recently did low lights and high lights for me and I've gotten compliments on how pretty my hair color is. Thanks Theresa! read more

Theresa is absolutely an amazing hair stylist. I am hands down the PICKIEST client ever but i leave her salon every time extremely happy with the outcome. I've been going to this salon for about 2 years now and have not one complaint. I always come in with a picture of exactly what I wanted and Theresa never fails to matched it perfectly. not only is the service amazing but it is also kept very clean. Theresa is excellent at what she does, and If i could i would give her more than 5 stars but yelp of course wont let me. read more

THERESA GARCIA IS MY HAIR FAIRY GODMOTHER!!! She saved my hair's life quite a few years ago, but sadly I am just now getting around to reviewing her salon. (New to the yelp community). The salon itself is quaint and cozy, very neat, modern decor. Love thats it's tucked away in a loft above a dance studio, there's also a cool little waiting area right under the stairs with a comfy couch, cable tv, magazines, books and coffee!!! As for my stylist mentioned above in all caps (Theresa) she is absolutely fabulous!!! She transformed me from a country pumpkin with orangey-blonde burnt and damaged hair to a fabulous natural-looking dirty blonde doll. She knows exactly what my hair needs in every visit, she is skilled and detailed with her work. I've been coming here for about 4 years and have never had a negative hair experience. I absolutely love that it doesnt take her 3 hours to do my roots like most other salons I used to go to. I mean, I used to have to clear an entire half day schedule just to get my hair done. Not here! Theresa works Tuesday - Sunday and her hours are varied depending on what time you need. She is suuuuuper flexible. Bonus Tip: This place is always fully stocked with snacks and beverages. Sometimes even wine! ;-) Definitely recommend everyone to check this place out and make a hair appointment with Theresa!!! read more

There are so many hidden gems inside the Phoenix Salon! I never would've known! When my mother contacted Theresa for two hair cuts on the same day of contacting her she couldn't resist taking on new clients. She was so kind to squeeze us in and make it work! Theresa and her assistant Catherine are so sweet and they provide such a welcoming environment. Catherine welcomed us when we arrived and let us know that Theresa was finishing up with a client and offered us water. Once Theresa was ready for us she popped out and introduced herself. Once learning that this was mine and my mother's first time there she offered to give us a tour, so thoughtful! Also extremely helpful being that I had an appointment for another suite/service the next day! Both our hair cuts were very refreshing and very well done. We will be back! Thank you Theresa and Catherine! read more

Theresa is our angel! My dance team needed an emergency practice location. She had the patience of Job as I called her frantically. It was more beautiful than i could have imagined & she totally made my dream image in my head a reality... Cecelia is my "master hair stylist" at Shear Rhythm Hair Salon in Long Beach bordering Lakewood. I was a neebee just a few months ago taking my mother in for her first appointment with Cecelia and now I am a regular. Thanks to Groupon we found a local, friendly, professional hair salon very close to our home. We were also very lucky to have Cecelia as our stylist. Both my mother and I recommend Cecelia at the Shear Rhythm. Tell her Roberta, aka Bobby referred you. P.S. Check out Groupon. Maybe there is a hair deal for you too. Roberta Always Recruiting, Inc. This place is pretty new and in an artsy cluster of streets near Heartwell park. It's called Shear Rhythm and when you enter the suite on the second floor, it's a dance studio (which I'm not reviewing - although when I came in, i rushed on the dance floor and did an flying jump thingie) aaaaanyway, upstairs is a hair salon - not that big and only two stylists can work at a time, but it's nicely decorated and feels a lot more intimate than other salons. While the space is small, it doesn't feel cramped - actually it feels pretty airy. Kim was my stylist - I wrote a review a few months ago about a different salon and since she left that one, I go here now. Obviously I knew what was getting since she's been cutting my hair for almost ten years, but I really like her new place. Plus the waiting room has a nice TV and they gave me the remote to watch whatever I wanted. I felt very much at home. read more

Theresa is amazing! Don't get me wrong yes it's not cheap, but when it comes to hair you pay for what you get! She's gives the hollywood glam in a local Suburban neighborhood with in my opinion reasonable prices for the quality you get! She's also super cute and always has great conversation...Can't wait to see her again in 12 weeks! read more

I'm new to the area and was looking for a stylist to retouch my relaxed hair. I was struggling to get good referrals for African-American hair and stumbled upon Sharone at Shear Rhythm. She focuses on healthy hair and customizes the products she uses based on your texture, not just what's available. I somewhat went to Sharon with 'blind faith' because I could not find another stylist, but once she started talking about the health and not just the style, I knew I'd be pleased...and I was/am/will be! read more

I have never written a Yelp review, but could not resist the opportunity to share my experience. I moved back to Long Beach over a year ago and thought it was finally time to stop making the drive to West Hollywood, where I have been going for the past 9 years. I was a little nervous to trust my hair to just anybody, but due to the positive reviews on Yelp, I decided to bite the bullet and give Shear Rhythm a try. I met with Sharone and she could not have been nicer. She listened to me, but also made suggestions. She is very knowledgeable about hair and seems to care about her clients and the health of their hair. My hair looked healthy and beautiful. I have been back once since my first appointment a month ago and have another one scheduled in two weeks. I have found my new salon and stylist in Shear Rhythm and Sharone--THANK YOU!!! read more

Cecelia has been doing my hair for about 6 years now. I have followed her to the different shops, but this is my favorite by far. It is cozy and a great place to relax while getting your services in quiet atmosphere. The hospitality is great; you are always offered some type of beverage. Shear Rhythm has an interesting twist with the dance studio below the loft. I would really like to take a class now after seeing them in action! It is freeway close and easily accessible. Being part of the little village of shops on Viking Way is a bonus when I have time to kill. I have recommended this place to many people for both the salon and the dance studio. read more

I get my hair cut here by Theresa. She always does an excellent job - so much so that my wife and 2 year old son also get their style on here. Kim is simply fabulous. I enjoy each and every appointment I have with her. Theresa is great too. Both women are knowledgable and entertaining. Both women give great head massages so stay in the sink as long as you can haha. I am not afraid to tell Kim about trying a new trend. I am not a wild gal and I usually keep it simple. She can execute subtle changes perfectly. I get compliments on my hair all the time. She likes Starbucks! Always lock in your next appointment! read more

I drive from North OC to get my hair done by Cecilia. I love my color and cut. I've never been consistent with treating myself until I started going to Cecilia. I now go every six weeks and love the outcome of my hair. Last year my daughter tried to dye her hair the day before Prom and it was a huge mess up. Cecelia squeezed in an emergency appointment and her hair looked amazing! I would say Cecilia is defiantly a color specialist! I also love that she never pushes products on me. read more

Long overdue! Found this charming little place from a living social quite a while back and loved it since. Only had Theresa cut my hair and I'm always pleased. I'm actually reviewing the Salon since I haven't taking dance lesson here yet. I get my hair done by Cecelia (for over 10 years now) and I've followed her to a lot of places. But this is by far, my favorite! It's a much more relaxed and intimate place to get your hair done! I feel like I'm in my girlfriends living room! Since I moved to California I struggled to find a good stylist who would listen to what I wanted and not screw it up. I finally found Theresa and have been with her a couple of years now, following her through a few locations, and I intend to remain her client. Cecelia has been cutting my hair since I was about 6 years old. She has literally watched me grow, and has always made my hair look fabulous. She has done my hair for every special occasion including weddings, formals, and prom. She always does an amazing job with my hair as well as my mom's. I would recommend Sheer Rhythm to any of my friends and family members. The atmosphere is very warm and delightful. The only thing better than the atmosphere are the stylists themselves! read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! I will not disclose the stylist who did my hair because she was nice , but I can confidently say I will never come back here. I paid a substantial amount of money to get my hair done and after reading reviews was confident I would get what I paid for. Unfortunately the stylist didn't listen to what I wanted I had a specific picture and my hair looks nothing close to what I requested. I was charged for a service I did not receive and the outcome was similar to the stylists hair. I felt her customer service skills were lacking as she was constantly on the phone or talking to other clients so I felt ignored and unimportant as she constantly left me by myself to attend to others. To make matters worse my highlights turned orange the next day due to the fact she did not pay attention to how long the color was in my hair. This is the worst experience I've ever had and I feel robbed of my money. Now I have to spend more money to fix the mistake of the hairstylist. A word of advice if you are particular about your hair don't come here attention to detail is not there thing!!! read more
