Employees set their own hours, so more often than not the salon is not crowded, which is nice and relaxing. My hairstylist, Vanessa, is so great! While this is certainly no one's fault, it's a bit frustrating to hear from them the day before and/or of to be told you have to reschedule. They have attempted to get me scheduled with someone else or with my stylist as soon as possible, however. The salon is always clean, and I enjoy the environment. I called the office and there are two locations. I now know the location in St. Matt's is for the less experienced hair dressers. I was not told that on the phone and ended up picking the St. Matt's location because of better availability. The location of this salon is very nice and there is plenty of parking. It was easy to get to and I had to call upon arrival because they are only allowing a limited number of people inside the shop. I had to wear a mask during my treatment. My stylist also wore a mask. I was disappointed to see the station was unclean. They did not clean up between clients which I find unacceptable. I sat down with my stylist to talk about what I wanted and she understood.. She mixed my color and got to work. While highlighting my hair, she picked large chunks of my hair to highlight. Normally I would have had more foils in my hair. She didn't put me under the heater so I just sat for an incredibly long time to let the dye do it's work. After the initial wash and dry, I noticed that my money pieces were very uneven. At first, she didn't agree with me but after I clearly pointed out the area of concern she agreed that they were uneven. She mixed some more color and did a spot treatment on me. I could tell she wasn't pleased with me for requesting her to fix her mistake. After redoing one side of my money pieces, I sat for over 15 minutes. During this time my stylist was no where in sight and I knew I was processing for too long. When she came back, her hair and another stylists hair was braided so instead of paying attention to my treatment she was in the back swapping hair braiding with another worker. After the wash and re-dry, I could tell that my money pieces once again were uneven because she let me process for too long. Picture attached. I was very disappointed when I left but I already asked her to fix it once and she had messed it up so I paid, tipped, and left. The other thing I would like to note about NOVA is their sanitation. My stylist was dropping clips on the floor all the time and then putting them back in my hair. I also saw a different stylist drop an unused towel and then place it back on the counter folded so someone could use it.

Carol has helped me get light again even after I waited 6 whole months. As a dark brunette, that's no easy feat. We have been going nice and slow so as not to ruin my hair again and using fun toners in the process to knock out brassiness. It's different every time and I always get compliments. This was incredibly smooth and simple to do online and I really appreciated that they were cool with texting. The space is vibrant, the music was on-point (Trevor Lamont mixes on the speaker - hell yeah), and the cut was exactly what I was looking for. I don't cut my hair often and just keep it long and layered, so the stylist taught me how to do basic styling that fit my personal routines. I was scheduled with Meghan for a makeup trial for my upcoming wedding. I told her that I'm not a heavy makeup wearer and for my wedding day I didn't want to wear heavy eyes (heavily lined or smokey looks) or lips (dark), I did want full coverage but for the color scheme to be a light, fresh, clean, romantic look, with pinks and maybe some faint purples. She decided that copper goes best with my eye color (hazel) and proceeded to apply my makeup. After she got done with my eyes, I told her that it was too much for me because they were lined very heavily top and bottom and the shadow was past my eyelid area/orbital bone. *Note from this point on in the application she had an attitude with me and anything I said was wrong. At this point, she starts arguing with me, minus the volume increase, that my makeup has to be this way for the wedding day so that the cameras will pick it up, but that she will tone it down for today since I'm going to be doing normal activities that full bridal makeup would look a bit much for. Gee thanks. Her boss is a Mirabella Beauty educator who travels around teaching this line of makeup and new skills, maybe she should work on her own staff some more because I will definitely not be back and will be discussing this with someone within Mirabella too.

These spots were fun, but I never felt comfortable going there and always felt out of place. Enter Scissorhands. This locally owned and operated salon is run by the very lovely Mona who has been in the hair business for years. Mona is so knowledgeable and wise when it comes to taking care of your hair and does a beautiful cut. She was the first hair stylist that taught me more about the best way to style my hair and shampoo my hair. I am now able to better take care of my hair and I'm not intimidated by it.
