Please. Please don't go to this place if you're reading this and if you care about your hair. I only went there because I got a gift certificate from my cousin. It was for a student haircut+highlights. I told them that I would like to pay extra and get highlights done by professional and they agreed. I also asked them if they don't mind me bringing my puppy in a crate while getting my hair done since it will take a while (2 hours). They said okay, which I really appreciated. I have naturally dark hair, and I told them I don't want to bleach my hair but just give it a little difference. They said they cannot do it without bleaching my hair. I said but I have done it by other salon and they did it with reddish brown. They said they don't have the product to do it in that way. So I said okay, then I will bleach and go for dark brown highlights. The hairdresser even showed me color panel and I chose BROWN. And I specifically told her "I do NOT want RED" with pointing at the RED color on that panel. When they were washing my hair after bleaching was done, several random workers came to me and kept complimenting how pretty my hair color is. I thought that was very strange. Why are they here all at sudden and complimenting about the color? They didn't even seem to actually liking my hair, not even a bit. I got nervous. I looked into the mirror and saw RED highlights all over my head. I was shocked and told them my hair looks RED. The girl who was cutting my hair said it's because of the light and once it dries out it will become subtle. The professional also told me it will become subtle once it dries out. I thought maybe they are right, and paid them, gave them tips, and came back home. It never got subtle. Under the sunlight, my hair was even horribly brighter RED. I cried, then I called them and talked with the owner. Somehow she was mad from the beginning before I even got to speak to her, and told me she was being nice to me letting my dog being in the shop, and she has to pay $100+ money to that professional, because I used the student gift certificate. Well, why didn't they tell me not to bring my dog into the shop if she wasn't gonna happy about it, and wasn't that certificate bought with money from my cousin? Didn't I pay the extra to get it done by professional which was $70+ plus $20 as a tip??? Then she said she's gonna hang up since she HEARD me I want RED so I got red, and there's nothing to argue about it. I told her PLEASE don't hang up, listen to me, I never said I want RED, when you guys said you have to bleach my hair I told the professional I want BROWN, not RED. The owner didn't even try to listen to me. She constantly said things while I was trying to say something. She didn't even give me a time to say anything, and kept telling me about how much money she has to pay the professional(which was paid by me and my cousin), then just hung up. She told me about the money at least five times. Ha! It almost sounded like they get complaints all the time and this is the way how she handles them every time. Is there a complaint handle book or something like that??? NEVER listen to the customer's complain, cover it up with your own words by talking on top of customer's talking, tell the customer she/he got what they wanted, and hang up. I thought I was in a kindergartners fight scene. I really don't know what to do with my hair. My eyes are just full of tears. My hands are shaking from how I was treated by the owner. What I wanted to hear was sorry, and to give me some suggestions how to correct this color, willing to fix it, or at least give me a refund what I paid extra for. I did read the low star reviews before went there but didn't expect this to happen to me as well.... I really hope this helps the future customers. Please. Stay away from this place. read more

Not recommended for those who have difficulty with understanding meanings or questions when spoken to, or have trouble putting thoughts or ideas into words. I was told that I was a 'difficult customer' for not being able to communicate well; in the same day, I was told that I was 'too specific' and that they couldn't do what I was asking, despite me having provided pictures of exactly what I wanted. For several years, this location was my go-to to get my hair done, but recently the service has plummeted. The staff is not patient or understanding, and often don't seem to know what they're doing. I quite enjoyed getting my hair cut here previously, especially when I could give a student a chance to practice, but I will be going to the Wasilla location from here on out. This is not a friendly place; it is messy and impersonal, and the hairdressers want nothing more than to be done with you and to have you out of their building. read more

Just got highlights and a trim from Maddy at the Palmer location. She did an AMAZING job!! I have very thick hair and my natural color is pretty dark and she went above and beyond anything I was expecting. All of the ladies there were so friendly and helpful. The owner Jana is wonderful. I have enjoyed going here the few times I have over the past years. I used to go to a specific person, then moved away and back again. I had a student, Tiny, this last time and enjoyed her work. She asked a lot of questions, consulted her teachers when in doubt or wanting assistance. The cut was what I wanted so I am pleased. Plus I enjoy the décor and how easy it is when I have to bring one of my kids with me. read more

They treat my 3 year old like a princess when she comes in. They take the time to wash her hair, style it and tell her it's beautiful. If people do this in their line of service, that shows the best customer service. I fully recommend Shear Fire. Please have your students take the time for an actual consult before coloring. I want to see and pick out my color, and know we're on the same page. I felt like I wasn't listened to. She actually put in the exact colors I was trying to avoid! She even used her neighbors leftover color saying "that will work." It's blue. Like grey with a hint of blue right at my hairline. And I honestly don't think my neighbors client was pleased with her hair either. More supervision is necessary. I've never been to a school where the client doesn't meet a teacher and sign a waiver before coloring. 2 stars because the shop has potential and the actual highlight technique was good. But dang. I came in here last Friday for all over highlights/lowlights. On Saturday morning, I woke up with a mild and painful chemical burn on the back side of my left ear. When I called to tell the salon what happened they just said "well I'm sorry". I was a little miffed that I wasn't offered a free trim or shampoo because of the problems but I understand they didn't think it was their chemicals that caused the burn. Considering this is a small business with many wonderful people working there, I decided to change my rating. The lady who did my hair was very kind and polite and did exactly what I asked her to do. I think the chemical burn was a fluke situation as I've never had this happen before. I would recommend this hair place to my friends, but suggest that if you have sensitive skin to not sit under the dryer while your hair is processing. read more

I have been to shear fire twice. Once in Palmer and once in Wasilla. They by far are the worst place I have ever gotten my hair done! Don't be fooled by the inexpensive price tag, any dollar spent at this place will be with regret and might even cost you more to repair the damage they will cause. My first experience here was years ago. I was seen by an instructor and she was friendly and did amazing work. Recently I moved back to the area but work crazy hours so one-mailed regarding an appt.... I had (had becuz I went else where) horrible split ends. I had been traveling a bunch for work and it got out of control. I was worried I'd need layers or a bunch cut. So I e-mailed and explain the bad ends and that if a student could handle it then I'd be fine w a student or instructor... I'm not picky as long as it looks good after... Anyway I got a good deal of attitude from who ever was emailing, about not picking student or instructor... I didn't understand the issue as I DONT KNOW the students and assumed someone working there would! Which is why I put it to them to tell me which would work. I mean.... Shouldn't u know what ur students are capable of? Anyway she just stopped emailing me after I gave attitude back. I was so disappointed Becuz my first experience was just amazing read more
