The person who was cutting my hair just kept saying well you're getting older and sometimes hair changes texture. But Arissa said hey your bangs haven't been being cut properly. She cut them properly, and now just a day or two later, I get out of the shower and they're perfect without me even doing anything. I get finished swimming and just run my fingers through my hair because I forgot my brush and they look great! My hair is truly wash and go now and apparently age and hair texture had nothing to do with it! I only wish I lived there so I could have Arissa always cut my hair! Someone from the salon called to check in and ensure I had the best experience by asking a few basic questions about what I wanted for a cut. I was really impressed by the thoroughness in follow-up. When I got to the salon, check in was quick, the front desk kindly asked to hang up my coat, and there was no wait time (despite arriving slightly early for my appointment). You could also request a refreshment, and they have one of the most extensive coffee menus I've ever seen! The wash, cut, and styling were all done seamlessly, with my stylist periodically asking clarifying questions along the way. I paid at the door, and inquired when I should be back. Another staff member knowledgeably mentions about 6-8 weeks to maintain the shape of the cut. Everyone was so warm and kind. Not to mention, there's great parking in the front and in the alley. I get the digital perm where they do magic straight perm on the top and curls on the bottom. I like my hair to look like it's been curl ironed so she picks out the perfect curl size for me. I've tried several styles and Ms. Ahn perfects the styles every time. Now I stick to the one I like, since I've going to Ms. Ahn for many years (10+). This is premium Korean hair care. There's always a saying "you get what you pay for". I've tried other spot in Chicagoland and it's not what you would get at Kim Sun Young. Sure, I can pay cheaper but the quality I got was not the same, so I always return to Ms. Ahn to take care of my hair. With my digital perm, she explains to me how to care for my curls, and also let me know how the condition of my hair/scalp is and what I need to do to get improve my hair health. I made an appointment about 3 weeks in advance for a Friday morning digital perm. It typically takes 3-4 hours for the perm. With my iPad and AirPod, time flies by while I'm watching the show. They also have a small "earcap" that looks like a shower cap so your ears are protected & my AirPod. I get a cut first, then a perm. Friday afternoon with 3 hair professionals and 2 assistants. They are busy because they are able to work simultaneous while the perm client is waiting for perm chemical to settle into the hair, they can do a hair cut.

The more thorough I am with describing what I want (really, they'll understand you), the happier I am with each cut! Men's haircut is $20, women's is $30. They also do color, perms, and false eyelash applications. It helps to make an appointment. Oftentimes, I can get in the same day on weekdays; weekends are naturally busier, and my husband has gotten turned down once as a walk-in on a weekend. Also, don't expect them to be prompt with your start times. Sometimes they act surprised as if they didn't expect a client, even though your name was written down in the appointment book. And if no one gestures to you after you check-in, head to the little closet off to your immediate right and "change," aka put a smock over your clothes, then seat yourself and wait to be called.

Since it was a Korean shop with a higher price, I trusted them when I walked in there. I really regret my choices, I literally cried after coming home. During the haircut I already told her it's too short and she proceeded to keep making the layers shorter. After the haircut I told her how much I hated my haircut and she said "it's okay, it will grow in a month or two" who the hell says that? Oh and she asked for tip when I paid. I actually want to go get my money back. I have curly hair and she has nooooo idea how curly hair works it seems like. She cut the layers too short so it becomes even curlier and she says my hair texture is different than the picture I showed. It was MY pictures I showed. It looks different because YOU cut it too short. I'm disgusted at the service she provided and the comments she made. Instead of saying sorry, you say, "it's okay, it'll grow in 1 2 months"?
