Run for your life. They will lead you on saying they will give you a 4k credit if you use their in house finacing. Then they ask for a bunch of paperwork, then additional paper work and conditions, while telling you everything is moving smoothly, next they pass your file around the office, and then eventually they will stop answering your calls and emails right before closing. They will then attempt to take your earnest money. Trust me, they are completely incompetent and have the deck stacked against you. *Just to update, they refunded half the earnest money. I guess someone there has half a conscients, or was afraid they would get sued. read more

If you are buying from a Shea development cite, you can't get a property lot assigned to you or buy unless you get pre-approved through their mortgage first. Of course you don't have to use their mortgage to make the final purchase, just have to get preapproved. The process is a a pain in the ass though. Even 5 years of employment history with 50% down payment, we were told that we can't apply for a loan for two years because we are now 1099 pay instead of receiving W2 pay. Even though the employment is with same company but because the tradition happened this year, they required another two years of history for 1099. There are mortgages out there that won't even verify your income if you put down 40% or more. I thought with no debt, 50% down, and several years of income would be a low risk for any banks to take but I was wrong. Looks like we won't be buying from Shea. read more

We recently bought a Shea Home, Marigold floor plan. The front bedroom is 4° cooler than the rest of the home. When we asked Shea Homes they said they had the same problem with a similar model in Backcountry. They would not help in finding a solution. We currently run a space heater in this room which we use as an office, this resulted in the breaker constantly flipping. When we asked Shea Homes they said because we have an HP printer their 15 amp fuse would not support both. We have had other Shea Homes and were very happy with their construction. They have cut corners and have put the burden on the homeowner. We have talked with neighbors and they have said the only solution they have found is to finish the garage that is attached to the bedroom...ugh this will cost us several thousand dollars. read more

DO NOT work with these people. I've worked with them off and on for couple of years and at every chance, they screw the customer. Thankfully did not end up buying from them. "Senior community representative" Amy Baumert was particularly bad. No effort whatsoever to understand our situation, or accommodate us as customers. Really seem not to have a clue what customer service is, or the value of their customers. Really quite bad. I wish I had seen their YELP reviews before approaching them in the first place. We are very disappointed the way they are handling the contract to build our house. Due to communication gap between sales person and construction manager they laid a wrong foundation plan which caused a huge loss of time. To adjust this, they have provided us an alternate lot beside to the previous lot but currently they are delaying the construction. We are lagging behind with delay of almost 5 months . And they do not do a timely communication and we had to follow up on the status multiple times. Very bad experience dealing with them. read more

I purchased a Shea Space in Highlands Ranch and I was promised 4K in credits toward upgrades, but only if I used Shea Mortgage. Well it turns out that using Shea Mortgage was the worst possible experience. First they sent out my personal data unencrypted and required that I getting LifeLock. Fortunately, Shea payed for it after a I reminded them a couple of times. I was moved to a different loan officer who was even more incompetent than the first. I was looking at various loans once I had a closing date and asked Shea and three other Mortgage brokers for quotes and naturally Shea came in significantly lower but only because John was wrong and didn't look at the dates of when it would close and consider the 60 day lock info. I could not get a good faith estimate from him in spite of asking many times. He gave me cost estimate, but sly and perhaps illegally avoided the good faith estimate. Once I got my HUD1 I discovered that he charged me for all of the fees that were supposed to be paid for by the seller and there was not 4K in credits as promised. I would like to believe he is a bumbling idiot, but it is clear that he was carefully calculating the errors in hopes I wouldn't notice. Shea Mortgage is charging outrageous origination fees that they then credit and so you don't get credits toward upgrades like you are led to believe in the beginning. They just credit themselves for their outrageous fees. If you are buying a Shea Home do not use their mortgage company even though they sort of force you into it and basically lie about what you are going to get. read more

This review is ONLY for Shea stepping stone in Parker. After purchasing multiple Shea homes with nothing but amazing experiences this was horrible. The customer service was non existant. When spending over 650k on a house and being promised an answer to whether we can build on a certain lot by Monday I would expect to at least have an answer sometime that week. No return phone calls, no update, nothing. Such a different experience from the wonderful service from the past. Disappointed because Shea builds a great home. read more

The previous review is 100% accurate. We are currently in the process of buying a Shea home and are experiencing the same thing. This reward money tied to Shea mortgage is a complete joke. Plus no one at this company knows what they are talking about. We get conflicting information from Jon and his loan officers. Do not waste your time with these people. Go get a gfe from Wells Fargo and you will see they will get you a better deal even though you will lose the reward money. Who cares. I would like to thank shea mortgage and shea homes for screwing me out of a long term lock that I requested MONTHS ago. Shea mortgage kept blaming the builder for not giving a closing date and they could not lock me. We all know my home is closing in less then 150 days, so I could have done a 150 day rate lock. Duh. I could have walked into a Wells Fargo and locked in when I signed the contract THAT day. Also, Shea Mortgage has a non refundable extended rate lock fee on conventional loans!! If you look at Wells they charge you upfront as well but it is 100% refundable!!! I can't wait till this is over with everyone at Shea and I am sure they are thinking the same of me at this point. read more
