They did a good job with COVID, they had us stay outside while they checked us in. They asked us if we wanted maid service the next day and we declined. We stopped by the office the next day and picked up clean towels. We were there to go canoeing, so we had a group of 10 people. The office has a cornhole board you can borrow, which we did. We set up in the parking lot near the end of the motel because there were too many bugs on the grass. There was also a fire pit we took advantage of later that night. The 1st & 2nd floor has an overhanging balcony and they have chairs and a small table set up in front of each one. Made it feel more cosy. There was a picnic table and on the first floor and a grill. We brought our own propane grill and cooked dinner and laid out the spread on the table. Made for a nice night. Dinner, cornhole & fire. It's definitely a motel and has a motel vibe. Not very updated inside but was very clean. Fridge & microwave in the room which we appreciated. Shower worked well and it had basic amenities. If you want upscale toiletries bring your own. The owners were very nice and didn't mind our late night partying. All in all an enjoyable trip. Don't expect the Ritz, but if you need a clean place to stay for your canoe trip, this is it.

    The Country Chalets

    The Country Chalets

We recently stayed at the Country Chalets because I had stayed there twenty-five years ago and fell…read morein love with it. The chalets sit on an absolutely beautiful piece of land with a large fishing pond in between and are situated in the heart of Amish country, both of which we absolutely loved! It's incredible to live right in among the Amish community which is one of the main reasons we decided to stay there. However, the chalets are both badly in need of repair and they were extremely dirty. Crumbs on the kitchen countertops, hair and grime in the refrigerator, hair & massive amounts of dirt in the bathrooms, black filth on the window blinds, dirty carpet & floors, you name it. I had to deep clean just to make it livable for a few days which is not something I had expected nor wanted to do on vacation but it was necessary. After seeing so much filth, we thought to disinfect the railing leading upstairs only for wipe after wipe to turn extremely black with dirt. The furniture was very old with dingy looking slip covers tossed over the tops - they look to have not been laundered in I don't know how long. Most of the furniture looked like anyone would fall right through if they attempted to sit on it. The kitchen is stocked with things for cooking, but so filthy you couldn't possibly attempt to use anything. The toilet didn't flush correctly - the first experience was after cleaning it then flushing & the water would rise to the rim every single time. We were afraid of it overflowing. There were holes in the window screens causing massive amounts of mosquitos, and there were all sorts of bugs & insects all over on both floors (more than what's considered normal in a cottage situation). The upstairs balcony screen door had no screen in the top at all, just completely open. The electricity was also very weak - it took two hours for my phone to charge 2%. The owners were nowhere to be found, which was also odd. We arrived and went to their home where the "Office" sign was and they weren't home. I called and she said she'd be around to get payment but never showed up. We tried to check out and no one was around again. My father had to literally follow the sound of a saw to find the husband cutting wood so that we could pay him. I honestly felt that a significant amount of money should have been knocked off my bill since I literally had to do their job and clean the chalet. It is quite clear that these two chalets are not being cleaned in between guests, nor is any love or care being put into them. They strike me as being completely disengaged with these properties which is sad because it is the most beautiful area. We are incredibly disappointed that we won't be staying there again, but unless something is done, we can't bear the thought of the filth. We will return to the area for sure, just not the Country Chalets unless there is a positive change.

What you can't see are the things like: windows without locks (or any latches), torn window screens, broken lighting fixtures, filthy floors, cigarette burn holes in bed linens, rusty bathroom fixtures, wandering dogs, and sharp broken tile shower floor. Interior & exterior were in extremely poor condition for a summer weekend getaway resort. *Note: I first posted this customer review (last night) on the North Star Resort website that asks for customer feedback. It was promptly removed by the owners/managers. Seems they are trying to maintain a "cozy" web facade and desperately trying to censor or totally prevent honest customer reviews.
