I keep returning to Shaw's because it is closest to me, I keep hoping they can get the pick up and go to work properly. For the third or fourth time I had to go in the store to let them know I was there for my order. The number outdoors on the parking space apparently no longer works, and the store number needs to be used. I was told this like I should have known better then told that the mess up was because of holiday weekend...my previous experience was not. Instead of thinking up excuses for a bad system, it would be great to put effort into making it work . Shaws is like a huge gas station without the gas. It's convenient unless they don't have what you want. There's probably only 2 staff members that are nice and the rest are miserable. Large supermarket in town that has more items available than the local grocery by our airb&b. Ample parking and shopping carts. Friendly staff. Grocery stockers are very helpful. While looking at avocados, one said he had placed all the ripe ones on a certain row; we had already grabbed 2 of the ripe ones he showed us. Very nice! We were able to find the chicken we wanted to make cutlets (the smaller grocery didn't have the chicken we wanted) and the breading we needed. We enjoyed our pasta and chicken cutlet dinner using the fresh produce and items from here. Thanks Shaw, for the amazing service and ingredients quality. read more

Use caution when buying flowers at Shaw's in Wilmington, VT. And have patience when you call to talk to them about the state of the flowers. Bought a bouquet of flowers from Shaw's on Sunday morning for Mother's Day. Unwrapping them, they were moldy and rotten on the inside - and the flowers were droopy but it was the best they had on that day, so got them anyhow. Shaw's should not be selling flowers that old, especially for an important occasion, national holiday when Moms want a nice bouquet. They are taking advantage of last-minute buyers, spouses and children buying for the special women in their lives. When calling Shaw's, there was no apology, they were curt and unfriendly talking to me about the condition of the flowers and required a receipt to do anything about it (which would be standard if they had been nice about it). It takes a lot to make me want to write a review, one way or the other, but today I was duly impressed by the service I received at this grocery store. Wilmington is an idyllic small town in Southern Vermont and rather than have a limited "General Store" like many smaller communities WE HAVE a small grocery store that is much better equipped to handle our needs WITHOUT having to drive 40 to 60 miles round trip to our other so-called "local" choices. Some who visit Shaw's complain that the prices are too high but compared to what? WalMart?, + 2 gallons of gas and an hour+ of driving time... or to a General Store? We are lucky to have such a complete selection right here IN TOWN just minutes away... but that is NOT what inspired me to write today. I received an e-mail offer to explore their new on-line ordering and pick-up service that is being rolled out. To persuade me to give it a try they offered a $20 "SAVE20" coupon to apply to any order over $75. I had just done a substantial shop a few days ago (elsewhere :( ... ) and figured I'd at least look and see if there were any sales that might encourage me to go over my budget by another $75. To my delight I found meats that were NOT being price gouged and were in fact very fairly priced already. Add in the $20 coupon and the deal was GREAT! . . . but that is NOT what inspired me to write today. I am writing this review because of a glitch in their new software that wound up billing me $35 more than the amount I was quoted. I checked my on-line bank and, nope the $56.65 charge I thought I would be billed was still pending but their follow up e-mail confirming my order indicated that the charge would in fact be 50% higher than quoted. At this point I was not too thrilled but called the store and explained it to Caitlyn and she and her manager Ryan resolved the issue in 15 minutes by issuing a credit for the overcharge that hadn't even gone through yet. Their sincere apologies were gladly accepted and I even got a follow up e-mail confirming what they had done. I am writing this review because THEY DESERVE IT, unlike a local pub with a rude staff that thinks it can steal and lie and then eject you for something you didn't do. That's one review I may leave in God's hands... they aren't worth my time and between the Lord, good ole Karma and their own supreme stupidity I'm sure that too will work itself out. Everytime I go here I say never again. The cashiers are mostly rude or just indifferent. The app never seems to have the coupons loaded so at check out it's a mess. then a trip over to the service desk. after spending usually over 100 bucks the cashier watches as you bag the groceries and hands the receipt like their doing me a favor.. i mostky go in the evening so maybe the daytime is better.. but I just can't go here anymore .. can't do it.. the chicken was wet and cashier just doesn't offer a plastic bag instead throws it down the kiosk to me as I am bagging.. just never a good vibe here read more

It's an average supermarket with mediocre produce; the place you go for your basic needs. Just watch out for the crazy bird of a manager. And god forbid you need to throw some trash out, the manager will not only tell you that "you cannot throw your trash in the garbage can" because "they have to pay for garbage disposal" ...and to "bring it back where you got it or where you came from." And then follow you around like a hawk. At the end of the day, I think this is a good policy. I'm going to bring all the trash from the things I bought from their store and "bring it back where we got it" aka back to their store, since that's their policy. LOL Since she said it cost money, I even offered to pay her money to put my hand-sized crumbled paper bag in the garbage container behind the counter. But she stood her ground. It's not about the money, it's about the priciple; the circle of trash. So, apparently she's bad at business and negotiation too. There's a gas station down the street with perfectly fine garbage receptacles and they welcome your beautiful trash :) this way you don't have to go back to Wriggleys or Trident to return that gum wrapper... read more

While in the Wilmington area this past weekend I needed to stop in at a store to pick up some quick groceries, so I decided to stop in at this Shaw's location. This particular location is smaller than others I have been to in the past. Even though that is the case, they pack it full of items and the staff was really polite. This store could have been better if it was larger and less chaotic, but overall if you need a place to go to get some decent food items, this is the place to go. read more

This is my go to location for anything I need! The produce department could use more employees but they are doing the best they can with what they have and it shows! The deli has been hard to work around since you never know when it's going to close. Just make a set hour for the deli so we can make it work with our schedules. A little upset that they ran out of eggnog, it shouldn't be seasonal but maybe next year. The reasoning behind the one star is the front end! They do their best employee wise it's one single person that destroyed the quality of the front end. Her name tag says Bonnie. I have yet to shop there when she is there and have a good experience. SHE IS VERY RUDE AND VERY SNOTTY TO EVERYONE!!! She is not qualified for customer service!!! She makes employees and customers feel like they are an inconvenience/nuisance. She need to be removed from customers service!!!!!! FOR THE SAKE OF THE CUSTOMERS AND THE SERVICE DESK FIRE HER!!!!!!!!!! She hasn't been opening so I make sure I shop between 7-9 so I don't have to see her! If I see her there I walk back out and call later on in the day to make sure she is gone. First time shopping here. I even setup my Shaw's card in the parking lot. I liked the layout of the store. They have done good with the limited square footage. The selection is even a little different than some of the larger locations/chains. Having said that, the reason for the low score is the staff. From stock clerk to the cashier, they were horrible. I almost felt like I was on Candid Camera or Punked. If you shop here, be warned. Although I live somewhat close, I won't be back. read more

Visiting town and we stopped here to get some last minute grocery items we needed. Good selection of items but from the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were surrounded by unhappy staff and horrible customer service. Everyone seemed miserable and the energy in that place was something we moved quickly to get our items to get out. And that was before our cashier was miserable with us. Will never return. Both of us have worked service jobs and know it can be tough, but hope they can make changes to treat their customers with more kindness as that is important within a business. Hard to complain when it's really the only game in town. Basic super market, on par with all the others (Stop and Shop, Price Chopper, Shop Rite, etc). It's on the smaller side, as this an older store. I'm secretly hoping they will expand and update now that Rite Aid has moved out from the next door spot in the strip mall. They are overpriced, but that's because this place really is meant for the tourists. Most locals probably know of some other way of getting produce (as this is a heavily agricultural area), but I'm rarely here in the warmer weather to find out. read more

NIce little local supermarket in Wilmington Vt. To people coming from NYC expecting a City MegaMart or a local specialty store, prepare to be disappointed, however the selection is large enough to meet most people's needs. I was able to buy the items i needed for the first two days of my menu (a sausage meat sauce, roast pork loin, corn risotto, and ratatouille) with only a few minor substitutions. The staff is friendly and quick, and when the lines got largish, they called for more cashiers (try finding that in NYC). Also you can buy wine here as well as beer, Vermont only restricts sale of hard liqour to state stores. read more

They have ring dings, so I think this review is pretty self explanatory. Very cozy inside. It is a very welcoming place. It reminds me of a cozy cabin in the middle of the woods. This is the only 'real' grocery store in the valley - and the only reason I can think of that you should go here is convenience. They close at 9:00 PM, which seems to be later than most other places. The store itself is a bit chaotic - probably because of its small size...the aisles are narrow and require a bit of work to navigate if anyone else is in it. The store seems to be fairly well stocked and if you follow their circular, you can find some pretty good deals. Small boring beer and wine selection. A strange complaint I have is that nearly every time I have been there were no hand baskets available. Horrendous. Stock up before you travel or go to the couple of locally owned shops where the items are fresh and staff helpful. Shaw's has no variety. Small is no excuse. The 2 markets north on 100 have lots more to offer and you don't end up with cashiers who have to comment on everything you are buying and 2 registers open on a busy evening. read more

Horrible customer service. I was in for the weekend just wanted to pick up some quick stuff. Waited 30 mins for some simple cold cuts. Only 2 people in front of me. Some employee was in the back washing stuff while the line after me grew. She just ignored the line of people. I guess it doesn't matter though because they are the only store for miles. read more

They claim to be wheelchair accessible and that may be so as long as you bring your own wheelchair. However, I cannot afford a wheelchair van as they are very expensive. I have only been in the chair for five years, and it was unexpected, so I was not prepared. All major chain supermarkets offer three or four electric scooters with baskets for their customers who have difficulty walking. I can not walk much more than fifty feet myself. This Shaws, however, only has one scooter, and it doesn't always work. Once I went there and the thing was in use by someone else. The next time I went, it was broken. The third time in a row that I went, they had lost the keys. They don't keep the keys in the scooter like every other store does. They say it is to keep kids off the scooter. The scooter is parked right in front of all the cashiers when it is not in use, and no kids would dare use it, and if one got on it and started driving it, which is highly unlikely, all the cashier would have to do is say stop! The manager offered to do my shopping for me once when the cart was broken. I had planned on going up and down every aisle to see what I wanted. As it was, all I had her get me was orange juice (she didn't get the brand I asked her to) and milk. I was about to cry. I moved here in June, and didn't really know what the supermarket situation was. As it is, this Shaws is the closest to me, and it is still twenty minutes away. I would need to travel about forty minutes to get to the next closest one. I am discouraged with this Shaws. And, as the other writer said, the produce isn't always the greatest and their selection is poor. I can't even get my favorite cereal here. They need to get some more operable scooters here. In Wilmington for the 4th of July and stopped at Shaws for beer and snacks. The cashier refused to sell the beer to my husband because my 17 year old son was with him. ??? So you're not allowed to have kids & shop here with them?? Funny thing...the other cashiers were selling beer & wine to other parents with kids, just not ours! Never experienced such nonsense in my life. Considering our vacation home is here & we're here just about every weekend...you just lost our business!!! Shaw's is an average grocery store located just outside of Downtown Wilmington. It is a chain owned by Albertsons. I was surprised to find Shaw's, as I expected Wilmington to have no grocery stores or any other suburban convenience (there's a Rite-Aid and a video rental store right next to Shaw's). It's your basic run of the mill chain grocery store. It's a little smaller than most grocery stores though, with no special features such as a pharmacy. There is a butcher in the store though and plenty of fresh produce. The teenagers who worked there were very nice. One major complaint is it can be hard to find things in the store. I was looking for peanut butter out first trip there and it took me forever to find it. I eventually found it in the unmarked baked goods section set in one of the corners of the store. Overall, if you live in Wilmington or if you're like me, a tourist spending a weekend in town in a house and in need of groceries, stop over at Shaw's, as it's your only choice essentially. I am here on vacation from Florida, for two weeks. This is really the only store in town. It was absolutely disgusting and filthy in the deli area. The floor and lower walls of the prepared, to go, food case was covered with mold. Not a little a lot, and various colors. You can see that it has not just been there this weekend. It looks like it has been growing in the case for months. The meat counters were filthy and had dried up and pools of blood laying under the meat in the counters. Why do employees not take a little pride and clean it up. What about the store manager, does he/she have no pride in their store? What about health inspectors, don't they think that someone can get seriously ill from eating food from such a filthy enviornment? Someone needs to clean this store up..... read more
