They did. So I came back a THIRD time and ordered it AGAIN, just to see if they can still keep their vegan cheese melted just right on top. It was incredible, AGAIN. Now that I've gotten this out of the way, ask where it is on their new menu as it is under revision--I don't like the tempeh version as much. Onto the rest of the atmosphere of Cushman. One of the most pleasant features of Cushman Market and Cafe is that it is nestled at an important corner in northeast Amherst. You need to travel further west to get to The Mill District and not much opens there early, and there's little else I can recall in the other cardinal directions. It's a pleasant trip, with plenty of parking in front, behind, and in a strip of side road across the street. I've never been in the market, so let me keep talking about the Cafe. The atmosphere of the Cafe is wonderful, with locals, safety officers, and regulars all visiting at each meal hour from breakfast to lunch. Nestled inside what looks like an old barn, complete with doors still hanging, Cushman has memorabilia from decades of music, sports, politics, and news frozen under acrylic, different for many of their tables. The café seems to have at most 20 chairs, and the staff behind the counter will deliver it to your table, call your name, or leave other orders by a stand near the back entrance. Cushman Cafe offers a variety of meals, alongside baked goods and freshly mixed café drinks. While I'm not a fan of the switcherels, I have enjoyed their dirty Chai lattes, iced teas, fresh coffees, and free water if I recall in a pinch. They have gender neutral bathrooms--which is great if you're tired of waiting in line for one of two as they are large but single occupancy. They offer cold panini sandwiches, hot panini, all sorts of eggs, egg sandwiches, and egg breakfasts, vegan and vegetarian options, alongside a seemingly visible carnivorous focus for their new menu's default. If you had a chance to hop on a bus and travel around Amherst, or you were passing through to the highways, Cushman Cafe is worth a quick stop. I've rarely had to wait long for my meals even in busy hours, and this is because of the large and competent kitchen, who--if you'll remember--can get a delicious sandwich right any day of the week. We have seen the television ads for Cha's and stopped for a much needed break after nearly 5 hours behind the wheel. What surprised me when I walked in was the size of the place. On the north side of the store are all the alcohol coolers, the south hade grocery items, their food service counter and dining area, and restrooms. The cashier counter is nearly in the middle. Had I just ran for a tasty beverage, the rating be higher, but... I used the restroom. Two things right off the bat, there are only two unisex bathrooms. One was occupied so used the unoccupied one closest the south entrance. I don't know when it was last checked or cleaned by the staff, but it was filthy. There is a toilet and nearby a low urinal. There was piss all over the floor by the urinal and it ran on the floor to the front of the toilet. There was toilet paper all over the floor like someone had cleaned up the floor in order to use the toilet. Next while I do appreciate the use of hands free sinks and soap dispenser, you have to keep the soap dispenser loaded with soap. Also the only way to try the hands was blower, paper towels not an option. Second issue with the visit- the food. Their advertising touts their pressure fried chicken. The hot chicken sitting in the food service area looked dehydrated and totally unappealing. I grabbed one of their chicken salad with cranberry wraps and a bottle of the new Sprite+Tea. The we were on our way back to MA. Within 30 minutes of eating that wrap, it came back up and not in a good way. By the time we got home an hour later, I was in some serious discomfort. While they have great TV marketing, the store falls short on delivering as far food quality and bathroom cleanliness. Too bad.

I went int to look for a restroom in this here barn like structure and as I did a worker came out on her break, recognized I was not a local and said hi, "and if you are hungry, we have lots of things to get. As I entered it smell like fresh warm food, better than more fast food highway chains, It was set up with on area typical aisles of a convenience store, to the other side was hot shelves as in a grocery deli with sandwiches, pizza slices and myriad of other wrapped and choice of warm or cold options. There was a historical display of photos on the wall of the Millers Falls area. There was a "toy and stuffed animal " display for those traveling with children, there was a wall of counter space with seating if you wanted to eat in rather than your car. The place was immaculate, a gentleman constantly keeping the floor and counters clean for the next customer. The checkers were quick and friendly. They were located near the kitchen and it did smell delicious. Our bacon, egg, cheese on a biscuit, as nice and fresh as homemade and no wait, just self serve off the hot bar. My husband bought some items from the convenience area and we read through the history posters and headed out, car full of gas and us with a warm sandwich to recharges. And absolutely the nicest people you would ever want to meet on a trip with such a stop.

This is more of a convenience store than Mom's, with the usual array of scratch tickets and smokes. But it's the only Indian grocer in town, and that's why I patronize it (even to the point of making a once-a-month hegira on multiple buses and a 10 minute walk on my shattered knees). Produce is scant and fresh food nonexistent, but there is a large selection of South Asian rices -- up to and including 50 lb sacks for the thrifty -- and non-perishables. Much to my liking, it's the only place around that sells bulk packs of Kontos brand naan, which I use for pizza making. The prices are also quite reasonable, a great deal more so than at Mom's, and they take EBT, which Mom's doesn't. Yay.
