What a difference one employee can make! I've been in Shaw's four or five times since I wrote my review and received the best customer service from an employee named Doreen. I couldn't find garam masala but Doreen, busy reshelving items, offered to take a look and found it. On a separate trip, Doreen also unearthed mint I really needed for a 4-ingredient Lebanese dish (so mint was really essential). She went to the storeroom and found the last box. In addition to this really great customer service, Shaw's is open late until 10 pm. When we had a sick kid who really wanted ice cream I remembered Shaw's extended hours from Yelp. I also discovered from the interface at checkout that Shaw's is in the same family as Safeway so my Safeway club card saved me a few dollars. Last, someone at corporate read my review and brightened up the atmosphere by piping in or increasing the volume on background music. I immediately noticed the difference. While pricing is a bit high, Shaw's has a more extensive meat and produce section, everything is very fresh. And, if time is tight and you don't have time or energy to shop around and your list includes something out of the mainstream, Shaw's hits the sweet spot. Taking a break. My favorite local grocery store for over 20 years. Selection and cleanliness still very good. Pharmacy excellent. Ted at the pharmacy and Lori up front are always outstanding interacting with customers. That Dennis is unnecessarily over-the-top rude. I got mistreated for pressing the "call for help" button when the machine accepted my payment but wouldn't close out the sale. While waiting a few minutes, the problem resolved. He approached aggressively and scolded me for pressing the button while he has a line and stormed off angrily and went back to bagging. I left embarrassed. I'm steering clear for a couple of months until he eventually gets himself fired. Doing my upcoming holiday grocery shopping next door. I tried calling the help line before posting this. There's a recorded message that they will ask for information about the caller and they may share the information with others as they investigate. No thanks. I don't need angry Dennis' wrath. read more

Always was a Shaw's fan...no more! Waited for service at the Fish dept and never acknowledged. Spoke to the deli guy....hecwas busy. Finally the meat guy took care of the line. Checkout is painfully slow. Go to Hannaford...cleaner, cheaper, and better service. read more

I do not like this store, you can never find what you are looking for and they just don't sell anything that I need. I don't see a reason to go to Shaws when I can go to hannafords and market basket which are right next to it and are much better than shaws read more

They seemed to have an excellent international food section. Way, way, better than you might expect from a typical supermarket. This Shaw's also seems considerably cleaner than typical grocery stores in the area. Prices are not unreasonable. read more

This Shaw's is really strategically laid out and very clear what is in each isle, making navigating the store very easy. I'd gladly give this location a 5 star rating if the socially moronic guy behind the meat/seafood counter wasn't such a condescending asshole. I wish I got his name. My grandma and I were there this evening to pick up lobster and haddock. Grandma pointed to the filet she wanted in the seafood case and this "gentleman" challenged her about what she should get, which was the beginning of a very hostile exchange. I appreciate when someone gives their expert opinion to help you shop, but Grandma explicitly told him what she wanted. He responded with "sweetheart, I do this everyday, I know what I'm talking about". He through a piece of fish that she didn't want on the glass over the counter, telling her that she should buy this particular piece. He THEN PUT THE FILET THAT JUST TOUCHED THE SNEEZE GUARD BACK IN THE CASE. At this point, I almost said forget it, we're not getting fish from here tonight. I highly recommend this grocery store but PLEASE don't get anything from the meat and seafood counter in the unfortunate event that you may have to interact with that ignorant bottom-feeder (no shellfish pun intended). My grandparents just moved to the area and will be going elsewhere for their meat/poultry/seafood. Which is unfortunate because the quality of the fish was very good. Management should seriously consider whether or not this guy interacts with customers. Shaw's, you can do better. read more

Last minute need to Deli Dept for after Christmas to celebrate engagement Called competitor who said they require 24 hour notice and had skeleton staff and couldn't help. Then spoke with Melonie at Shaw's, also said they regularly need 24 hours but asked what we needed, after checking with produce dept, she took over and everything was terrific Picked up order at 3 pm, everything was well done. For the second time shopping after masks were mandated in the store, I have seen people with no masks and nothing done or said. There was a manager bagging their items even. I have shopped here for years and am disappointed. If you have a policy stick to it or don't have the policy. read more

I do not frequent Shaws for my weekly full shop but make a point of going to pick up a few items on their Friday, Saturday and Sunday sale. If you do not get their flyer in the mail make a point of looking it up there are some great deals. read more

I went in at the last minute to pick up 2 sheet cakes for my husband's work. I had a toddler and infant in the cart so I was juggling quite a bit. Lori was so nice, she carried one cake to the register for me AND arranged to have a great guy named Doug walk me to the car. Thank you both so much! A regular Shaw's Supermarket with not only the essentials, but a few other things - cheap tomatoes (1.49$ a lb) and When Pigs Fly artisan bread. They are open until 11PM on Saturday which is great for the traveler looking to stock up after on the bike trail or hiking trail all day. read more

I ventured into this store to do some holiday food shopping. I thought the store was great at first. I got stuff from every department. The Deli was great, bakery was great, the meat department was excellent. The meat department was crazy busy but the older gentleman was still able to cut my order right there on the spot and he did so with a smile. Everything was great until I made my way to the seafood department, that's where I met Bob... Bob is an older man with one of the most horrible and disgusting attitudes I have ever witnessed in a human being. I asked Bob for a pound a salmon, now most people wouldn't think that a pound of salmon sounds like a big deal but apparently bob doesn't understand what a pound of salmon is. He instead placed over two pounds onto the scale and asked if that was ok. I responded with a "No sir, I only need and want a pound." He then continued to wrap the salmon up and tell me "Well I all ready pulled this from the case so you're just going to have to get two pounds instead of one." I explained that this was unacceptable and that I was only going to purchase one pound of the salmon. He then ignored me and asked the next customer in line if he could help them. At that point I was obviously upset and I made it known to him. His response was a simple "I only reach into the case once per customer when it's this busy. If you don't like it go shop next door." I was appalled and my wife was mortified by him. We left our cart there and left the store. We will NOT be returning. read more

I know people who do all their food shopping here despite the fact that the prices are significantly higher than other supermarkets within a half-mile. These people are not the rich and famous. Some are actually of very modest means. But I think they gotta be nuts. Whenever I wander Shaw's plenteous aisles, I suffer severe sticker shock. I enjoy food shopping/cooking and do go to Shaw's occasionally for a couple of items that aren't available next door. As I tour this cavernous foodstuff amusement park, pondering a $7 can of baked beans from England that certainly will live its life out on the shelf, or pick up a package of Feta cheese identical to what I buy next door for $2 less per pound, I am surprised to find familiar persons who I know to be otherwise rational filling their carts with food. But why they spend hundreds of dollars more each month here at Shaw's for household commodities is not a mystery. I see my reflection in the glass of the deli cooler, where chilled Sara Lee processed junk meat will set you back $8, $9 or $10 a pound or more. The reflection is of a greasy guy who just changed his truck's oil, hasn't shaved in three days and looks like he smells bad. And that's the person you encounter at Market Basket, not Shaw's. For my phobic friends, I must conclude that avoiding that Market Basket shopper is worth the extra chings at checkout. read more
