Anyone who knows me knows grocery shopping is my JAM. Market Basket is well-organized, supremely well-stocked with happy, service-oriented employees and great prices. Shopping for the big dog Thanksgiving Day spread, we were also shopping for the days leading up to turkey day: Slow cooker chili, omelettes & sausage, honey walnut prawns.. (Yeah, I'm back into my Cantonese groove). While the store is a bit dated, it has a small town charm. It's very clean, has great displays to prompt you you could probably use more turkey stock and don't mind if I do, cans of pumpkin purée. Market Basket has a nice assortment of house-made sausage, roasted sliced turkey/ham/chicken and much more along with a mouth-watering prepared food section with interesting salads, grinders and (wait for it) $6 lobster rolls stuffed with fresh chunks of lobster meat. I'm from San Francisco: They thought I was a little weird jumping up and down exclaiming, "Lobster rolls for $6? SIX dollars??" The produce section is fresh but doesn't venture past the staples; they could bump it up. Overall, a very solid grocery store with above average selection, service and prices. read more

This is NOT a political post, this is just a how the hell do you put a bunch of non speaking English Dominican girls at your cash registers. They are so rude it's not even funny. Chit chat with each other and not in English, no hello no good bye no nothing and forget if you have to ask them a question. Why are they not working in an area where they don't need to speak English and are not going to be a bunch of rude assholes to the customers? Come on Market Basket you can do much better with all the money we give you every week. read more

This place is going downhill: We have been shopping at the MB in Stratham NH for almost 2 decades. Lately, the cashiers and baggers that have been hired do not speak any English and when you ask questions, they cannot answer you. Secondly, they toss around the groceries while scanning, never say "hi" or "hello" and never a "thank you" when they abruptly hand you the receipt. I can feel that I am disturbing them with my groceries ~ They all gather amongst themselves and laugh with each other and do not interact with the customers. I do understand this is an entry level position and not at all "fun", but this is a customer service position, some sort of customer service skills should be required. Lastly, they don't seem to care nor wanting to help customers at all. They just want them in and out ASAP with the least amount of interactions as possible. read more

Kind of small with a disconcerting atmosphere. Limited produce available. Aisles are narrow and keep you on edge awaiting the inevitable collision. Luckily, it was eerily quiet for a Sunday morning, probably due to the unsettling aura. Would go again read more

While I appreciate Market Basket hiring diverse people, but I found it unprofessional the stock people where speaking very loudly in Spanish and I didn't appreciate being yelled at by the cashier in Spanish because she was pointing at something and i couldn't understand her. read more

Store brand popcorn has n0 quality control... stale 50% of the time. They don't carry low cal or 0 cal juices. Displays hinder cashier entry and lines they tried didn't work. GET RID OF THE CANDY RACKS WHERE THE LINES ARE BY THE CASHIERS. I may go to Hannaford or Shaws now... read more

Returning home from a few days hanging out in the Exeter area, Bestie and I realized we had an empty refrigerator waiting for us, so we decided to make a quick stop at Market Basket to pick up something for dinner that night. I have always been amazed by the size of supermarkets outside of my native Connecticut. Yes, we have some huge stores, but very few match the Market Basket for their content. As we wandered the aisles trying to decide on what to eat, we were impressed by several store associates inquiring as to whether we were finding what we needed. We almost never see this at home, and it made for a much better shopping experience. We went through the deli, sushi, and Market Kitchen sections, before deciding to eschew pre-made food in favor of cooking at home. The meat section offered a wide variety of cuts and many were on sale. We found a nice packet of country ribs, and ran off to the produce section to round out our meal. There was a nice assortment of vegetables--not as wide a variety as I see at home, but all looking very fresh. We picked some gorgeous broccoli crowns and wandered around the rest of the store. We were amazed at the wine aisle. This is not something I would see in my local stores--beer is about all we would find there. Had we known about this aisle, we probably would have started here and polished off a bottle while we shopped. As previously mentioned, prices were good on some things, higher on others, probably because of distribution costs (we live in a rural farming area, so produce prices tend to be low most of the time), and the friendliness of the associates made this a pleasant experience. I wish Market Basket would expand into Connecticut. It would become my new favorite store. read more

This is one of the older Market Basket stores. Physically smaller with narrow aisles equates to less variety of product than you would find in a newer, bigger store. Can be a little claustrophobic in the dairy, meat and produce departments where people tend to congregate. Still a few random empty spaces on shelves. Guess they haven't fully restocked yet, but for most part, majority of what I was looking for was there. All but two cash lanes were open, very little waiting to check out. Took them at least 30 minutes to make a tiny pizza we could've made at home. No one filled the ingredient stations, so the poor old lady had to run around finding the ingredients for about 15 minutes. Whoever is in charge of restocking the ingredients needs to be retrained, not sure why she should need to go on a hunt all around the store for something that should already be prepared. And at the pricing machine, one lady didn't even know how to use it, and one couldn't even reach it. How hard is it to provide a step stool for your shorter employees? Plus, the lady was a sweetheart, but I feel like if your employees are not as fast as they need to be, maybe switching them to cashiering or something would be a better idea. Also, there were flies landing on the pizza and on the vegetables in the bar. PS. Please teach your employees how to wear a mask properly. They're supposed to cover your nose too. We've already had issues with slow and sloppy service at this location, this was the final straw. We will be going elsewhere until things change. Went there for a sub and a tiny cheese pizza, ended up waiting an hour and by the time we came out the rest of our food had spoiled. read more

Can't beat the prices but the last few years this store is cramped, looking old, unkept, and is small. The employees are friendly enough but with the upscaled Shaws and Hannefords adjacent in the same area I don't see this store lasting much longer as-is. It is in need if serious updating. read more

Okay prices and usually good cashiers. However the baggers during senior hours are pretty bad- it's inconvenient and a hassle when they bag.

I love this store. I was in the other day looking for a particular brand of chicken stock. I asked an employee whose name tag said she had been working there for 23 years. She made it her business to find me that brand. She called to the back, found me the lady stocking the shelves, and did not stop until I was a happy customer. Really, in a world that seems to have less and less customer service, Market Basket stands out. Their people always get invested in solving the problem. I am a fan for life. read more

The Stratham store may not be the newest, the most stylish, or super-sized, but who needs grocery shopping to be a "destination" ??!! I like that the managers greet you, the cashiers remember you, the younger and older baggers joke with your kids, or ask you how you are preparing that cut of meat...........and THE PRICES ARE THE BEST!!!!! I actually LIKE the size of the store!! Sure the aisles sometimes get crowded, but shopping there is very efficient, unlike wasting time wandering around a larger store with many aisles of non-grocery items. AND as an experienced cook, it is rare when I can't find the ingredients, quality vegetables or cut of meat that I require. Message to management: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!! read more

If I am comparing this store to the other Market Baskets in the area it has to get 3 stars. Produce is lacking in quantity, meat products are scaled down for the size of the space. I must rather jump. On 101W to Epping and go to a newer, cleaner better stocked store where the aisles are wider and the deli, fish and produce sections have a bigger selection for the same prices as Stratham. read more

I love Market Basket....this store in particular I have been going to for 15 years...and everyone is friendly and remembers your family! Both my sons are adults now but the manager always ask me how they are doing. The prices can not be beat! My fear about moving anywhere outside of the New England area is NO MARKET BASKET!!! The prices are good by the store is so small you can't even more around and the selection of products is poor compared to other local grocery stores. The employees are also the rudest I've ever seen with a few exceptions. If you do shop here, make sure to go first thing in the morning or before it gets crowded as not only will you be stuck in a giant line to check out but it will take you forever to navigate around the other shoppers in the narrow aisles. read more

Never busy and the sane old market basket prices! This is one of their smallest stores so you may not find all the specialty items you get at a larger store, but they have the basics. I don't believe this one had an I store bakery. I prefer to go to the mb with the least amount of people, so this one would be my preference compared to the epping one. Seabrook one is also nice for few people. read more

I love the fact that the store isn't HUGE. I like being able to go in the front door, head straight for the dairy section (only halfway back in the store instead of the furthest corner in the back) pick up a carton of milk and be out of the store in a flash. I love to walk but walking in a huge grocery store is not my idea of fun. read more

They've got good prices on grocery items...when said items are actually stocked. The store is always a mess, the aisles too narrow and you cannot walk through there without members of the blue hair brigade using their shopping carts as battering rams. I'll still shop there for sales, but for most of my grocery shopping, I go elsewhere. Do not wear open-toed shoes to shop here unless you want your toes crushed by one of the blue-haired shopping cart zombies. read more

I totally agree with others. They need a store in this location like the one in Epping NH - a Super Market Basket. I shop next door at Shaw's in Stratham - probably pay $30-$40 more per week; but their selection of products is MUCH better, the store is cleaner (I swear every time I go in one or two aisles have sawdust spread all over) - and the aisles are wider. PLEASE build a bigger store so I can switch my allegiance and shop at MB! read more

I always loved this store, but some workers need a good lesson on customer service and courtesy. I asked a question to a kitchen worker about a long time friend if she was working and i never felt so humilitated for asking. I just want to say what a PLEASURE it was to actually speak to a human voice instead of having to go through an automated system of press this...press that. Also, the 3 stores in my vicinity were warm, courteous and very helpful in donating brown bags for this Sunday's church service FOOD GATHERING program. Sad.....that I had to write a letter for requesting them at the H.... store in Hampton...and then W.... either didn't get the letter he asked me to write last Wednesday or he neglected my request... When I contacted them today they said they had nothing for me and without an apology said....I can order them today but they won't come in until tomorrow night and you can come for them Sunday morning after 7 a.m. Sure doesn't give me much time to staple all the food lists to them for our 9:30 service. Just SO HAPPY that I thought of MARKET BASKET....thank you to Debbie, Chuck and Karen from all 3 Market Baskets near me!!!! You all deserve 10 stars!!!! LAD read more
