Welcome to DeKalb!…read more When the White Castle closed at this location before COVID, we were sad. Then McAlister's Deli came in. The place is completely redone - you wouldn't recognize it. Food wise, oh was this place good. My wife ordered The New Yorker with corned beef, pastrami, swiss and spicy brown mustard on marbled rye, and I had their Horseradish Roast Beef & Cheddar, which had black angus roast beef, sharp cheddar, red onions, and horseradish sauce on a toasted ciabatta. Listen carefully when you make your order - they ask you if you want a pickle. The pickles are good. My wife went with their Choose 2 option, and got a half a sandwich and a cup of soup. I got the regular sandwich with a bag of Ms. Vickers Salt and Vinegar chips. While they don't have the fountain where you can get it, the staff makes regular tours and offers free refills for soft drinks, and also asks you if your food is okay. My wife enjoyed her New Yorker, and I enjoyed the Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar. It had enough Horseradish to taste good, and the drinks tasted great. The place is completely redone, is attractive and clean, with very good service. We'll be back!

We had the italian beef egg rolls to start. They were good, but actually needed a sauce instead of aus jus. But they were still good. I love giardiniera, and they have a really spicy, flavourful one. It goes really well with the Chicago pub burger too. The thing is huge! And tasty! He had a patty melt. Mine was better, but the burgers are just juicy and are made well. Our server was super nice and very attentive! Mae apparently likes her job which is great! Just passing through but I'd come back for cocktails and some more food sometime.

The place is clean, bright and cozy without being cramped. The service is friendly and helpful. The menu is not too big nor too small....just right. We ordered the spinach pie - flakey crust, delicious spinach & feta filling with herbs. Most definitely homemade fresh, not a frozen food service product. Gyro dinner with spinach rice and Greek potatoes - gyro meat was tender and not overly spiced/flavored like, once again, a nasty food service product. Potatoes were cooked perfectly. Soft and seasoned spot-on, obviously made fresh and not left dying under a heat lamp. The spinach rice was tasty but a bit salty. I can assume that since everything is fresh made this might just be a one-off. I am more than willing to try this dish again to test out this hypothesis. I definitely recommend. Please support this venue to assure that this option for an alternative to bar food in downtown Sycamore lasts for a long time to come

The chicken was super tasty and I loved the block of feta. Although, for 15.00, I could get double the salad and chicken and get pita bread at another local Greek restaurant. I would suggest adding more to the salad for the price of 16.50. I will try something different next time but I think my husband will stick with the Gyro dinner and we will just ask for more sauce and pita bread.

New day, new review…read more We hadn't visited in a while (time marches on) and I had a burning taste for the Dirty Bird. So back we went. The theme is still the same - CHICKEN EVERYWHERE! It's clear, and they love chicken. I mean they REALLY love Chicken! First off, they are FAST. They were very busy - almost every table filled and they kept filling after people left. After we placed our order, our chicken (two Baby Bird meals) came out HOT and FRESH within around 7 minutes. With my appetite, the Baby Bird is the right size, and I have a big appetite for their chicken. Service was great as well - our drinks were checked, and the server was very pleasant. What a great place to visit in Downtown Sycamore! The drink menu is still impressive, and they even have a Whiskey Acres Bourbon-infused barbeque sauce.

How much do I love a butcher shop with a bbq restaurant all in one? Is not a trick question, I love…read morethem! This one tucked away in a slow road and filled with fresh meats and Americana. The butcher and pit master, showed me the fresh cuts, including organic Amish chicken, seasoned with his distinctive spices, I can tell you it was a hit with the family. I also got the meat and sausage roll and the two meat combo with pork chop and bbq ribs, yummy. The hot food comes rapped with aluminum foil with each hot item getting its own pocket of foil. Like I said, this is Americana, with that hint of nostalgia come a lot of food for a very reasonable price, including home made salads, like traditional loaded potatoes salad, creamy coleslaw to more adventurous, Shrimp Macaroni Salad, and Bowtie Crab Salad. I will definitely have to get some steaks and home made sausages for the grill monster, and might even try some of their fresh habanero cornbread. Man my mouth is watering just thinking about it! The service is nice and welcoming, and the ambiance is roadside bbq shack meets clean and orderly butcher shop, in what looks like a country store with plenty of benches outside to nosh on.

However, I prefer the competition 9 times out of ten because Potbelly is over priced. 10 dollars and change for a lunch and it's just a sandwich, so not even including chips or a drink is significantly more expensive than the competition. That's the reason for 4 stars, it's over priced.

The restaurant has lots of windows so there is plenty of natural lighting. The restaurant is very clean and the tables, booths, floors, and walls are high quality. The soup today was beef and vegetables but I chose to have the side salad with Greek dressing. The dressing did not have much flavor... Just tasted like vinegar. The vegetables were fresh and delicious. The Gyro meat was cooked very nicely and tasted delicious. I would definitely eat this again. There were some really nice crunchy and crispy pieces... Not fatty or gristly at all. I love that they included feta cheese, I love eating that with the pita. This has to be the best gyros I have had in a long time. My husband ordered big farm breakfast. The eggs cooked over easy were good. The corn beef hash was cooked perfectly (which is the most important part of this breakfast in my opinion). The hash browns could use a little more taste. The pancakes were good as well. Definitely filled him up. He would order again for sure. The menu has lots of great items on it. Cannot wait to come back and try something else.
