Look for somewhere else! I lost all interest in going to this dentist after the first visit. The owner does not have any regard for the patients - she told me that my teeth were "too manly" and needed to be rearranged for my "round cheeks." Not only that but the pricing and practice is very unclear. I went just to get a regular teeth cleaning, but I paid 2x what I do at my other dentist, and she only cleaned half my mouth!! Stating that it is her normal practice and she didn't have time to clean my entire mouth. I continue to get calls from this office even after informing them that I have moved away and do not want to finish their services. read more

I recently had to choose a new dentist due to new insurance. I was looking for the most modern technology as well as someone who has been in practice for a while. After pouring through a many-page document and looking up all the dentists in Yelp, I chose Shawna Omid's practice based on reviews and the information on her website. I've had 2 appointments with a third coming up (I'd lost a crown) and have received highly professional and gracious treatment from both herself, her daughter who works in the practice and all of the staff. There is plenty of parking behind the building and so far, the parking attendant booth has been unmanned so I have not had to pay to park there. When you walk into the building from the parking lot, walk straight through the central foyer and out the other side to the front. I have pain after spending $990. Did not even offer a receipt had to ask for it on my pain revisit, so I work in a high pressure call center and worked all week in pain and ruined my weekend. This is for one crown and a deep cleaning with Aetna PPO insurance. They used a metal instrument. Then they used some laser that burned my gums, and it has been a week of constant pain in the front and the back of mu mouth. They billed $2295.10 and I paid on top. Then I ask for Invisalign and they quoted me $4050 and they acted like they were doing me a favor saying it is normally $5900. I am so sick of dentists with their overbilling just to burn my mouth with a laser and don't even offer me a cup to rinse had to go to the bathroom. I have had nothing but problems with the tooth and pain and sensitivity and the tooth feels wonky. I just came from a check up and they pressed against my gums and wanted to sell me some MI paste. I am not happy. I am not happy with this doctor they messed up my tooth and now I have intermittent pain. Do not go here! read more

I don't ever leave reviews but after the hassle we went through please look at all the reviews, there's a reason there's so many 1 star reviews. She genuinely just wants money. Insisted on deep cleaning even the side that had been done only a few months before. When I needed a wisdom tooth extraction she wanted to do two of them in house and refer me out for the complicated one that they couldn't do. Obviously I didn't want to go through it twice and decided to just go somewhere else that could do all of them at once. I called twice and she refused to refer me, the insurance called her and she didn't refer. Not until I was at the oral surgeons the day of my procedure and had the doctor call her did she write a short little unofficial email, after even trying to fight him a little on the phone. The total procedure at the oral surgeons was the cost of what just the numbing would've been at her office for TWO of my teeth. Do not try it, go somewhere else. read more

This is a long story but hopefully it will give you an insight as to what kind of doctor Shawna Omid is. I see her come in and argue underneath these reviews sometimes so I want to provide as much detail as possible I am sure she has her own side to this as well. I have nothing bad to say about the actual procedures she performs it's her approach that I find dishonest and predatory. This will be long so the short of it is that she tried to charge me about $1000 at the last second then refused to do the procedure while I was already in the chair. Since beginning to visit Dr. Omid she has constantly attempted to peddle laser treatments basically during all my visits. I have family which visits her and they confirm similar experiences in the past. This however, was beyond that. I was told I have 6 cavities (I've visited 2 other dentists since who say they see only 3) due to Acid Reflux and would require fillings. I was quoted a price for basic fillings and then Dr. Omid went back to suggesting her tried and true laser treatment. This meant that the price of each filling was now $140. That's $840 total which is not something I could afford at that time. I informed her about this and she ignored me. I let it got because I figured she's busy plus she has a receptionist for this. I told the receptionist I would like regular fillings and not the laser and she confirmed she would put that down so we scheduled the appointment. A couple of weeks later I got a call to confirm the appointment. I made sure with the woman calling from the office to confirm that the treatment would not involve the $140 laser for fillings and was told that not it doesn't. I even called and confirmed this with my insurance company. I want to make this very clear THE WOMAN ON THE PHONE CONFIRMED THAT THESE WOULD BE SIMPLE FILLINGS. Day of. I get there, I sit down in the chair, the dental assistant begins the procedure of numbing my mouth. I see the laser getting pulled in so I mention that I don't want it and have said so. Assistant leaves and Dr. Omid comes over to the chair and gives me a spiel about how she's the kind of dentist that doesn't do invasive procedures if she can help it blah blah. Long story short she's not doing it without the laser which of course is 140 a tooth. Now keep in mind this is happening right in the middle of her operating room. She's got several clients in the middle of procedures while she's arguing with me. I told her that her receptionist confirmed with me. She kept interrupting me and even brought up the fact I contacted my insurance about this. Her reasoning as to why it doesn't matter why the receptionist confirmed it "She's not a medical professional". Well, she's still your employee and furthermore this tells me you've never read the charts you are given. She kept interrupting me and basically told me it is what it is as I walked out. I've filed a dispute with my insurance and was informed that what she did was not legal. Unfortunately the part where she decided to run up while I'm in the chair with my mouth going numb and making it seem like it's my fault that I told her employees several times is something that's my word against hers. I will be informing the dental board of California and I really wrote this so nobody has to go through the experience I did. read more

This doctor has no empathy for her older patients. She charged my mom full price for a set of ill fitting dentures. She had to go to another doctor who could not believe a new denture would be so unpolished, sharp and on top of that not fitting properly. I came for a regular check up and cleaning, and they said I have full coverage and no out of pocket costs. they provide you with unnecessary services that you never agreed to, and you get billed for it. I've been a patient of Dr. Shawna Omid since 1995 and I highly recommend her. She is very thorough and patient and the front office staff (Victoria & Vanessa), hygienist (Nooshin), and assistants always answer my questions. The office is very clean and well run. The costs for treatments not covered by my insurance were clearly spelled out and I had the choice to accept or decline. For example, my insurance only pays for cleanings twice a year but due to my condition, I go more often and pay out of pocket. Money well spent. I'd rather get my teeth cleaned and checked often to prevent certain conditions that can be avoided. I've never had to wait more than five minutes to be seen. Recently, Dr. Omid made a generous silent auction donation to a local non-profit organization I volunteer with and the group really appreciated her kind support. read more

Saw the great reviews from others, so I decided to give her a chance. Overall, I give it 2 stars because of the service and overall cost. Service: the hygienist spent about 15 minutes cleaning and telling me how much my gums were bleeding. Followed by another 5 minutes of up sale while I laid flats on my back. Also did not receive a warm welcome and had several moments of awkwardness during my visit. Overall cost: I was told by many that my insurance is very good, but very single additional service is either not covered or partial covered for this office. Example my insurance covers 135 for cleaning but the office charges 150 for the cleaning (150 dollars for 35 minutes of work). I'm torn on my review of this place. I read through some others' experiences and found the glowing reviews to be slightly exaggerated, and the negative reviews spot on. That's why I went with 2 stars over 3. If you're a pushover, avoid this place. Their biggest flaw is their upselling. My first visit here, they tried convincing me to switch my dental plan from an HMO to a PPO. They ALWAYS try to sell me on an overpriced swish of fluoride, even after I tell them I do fluoride rinses at home. They'll offer you every service under their florescent lights, so it's hard to know what services you really need or don't need. It's true they aren't always upfront about their charges. The first time I was offered the fluoride rinse, I wasn't told about the fee until I was already swishing it. I thought it was the free mouth wash you normally get! I think this is purposeful too, as each returning time, they'd tell me about the fee involved right as they're starting to perform the service, and they get an attitude about them if you turn it down. It's like they work on commission. They'll use you as a table. When filling a cavity, the dentist would drop her tools on my chest. Since I was slightly inverted, the tools would slide down and rest against my throat. She didn't seem to notice that I flinched every time she dropped a tool on my chest. During my next visit, I asked the hygienist to ask the doctor not to do this, and it still happened. I'm a nervous patient, so this was very uncomfortable, and frankly, quite rude, On a brighter note, they have a lot of new technologies available that make many services pain-free. The dentist filled a small cavity I had with a laser, and she didn't have to numb me. It was very quick and painless. Maybe all their upselling efforts are needed in order to pay for their advanced equipment.... I do have to point out that their general cleanings are not very effective. On my first visit, they bragged about the use of water to clean between my teeth, eliminating their need to floss. After the cleaning, I asked for a demo on how best to floss my back teeth, and when she showed me with actual floss, she ended up pulling out chunks of food, AFTER their ever-so-advanced cleaning. Hmm..... Overall, if you can say NO to all the upselling, you probably will like this place. They are nice (until you refuse a service). Just be sure to ask about any fees you will incur and get all quotes in writing. Make sure you have a lot of time on your hands when you schedule your appointment. I never got in at my scheduled time. The wait was anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour. read more

Dr. Omid is very experienced, patient, gentle and very understanding. Dr. Omid came as a recommendation to me and I waited for an opening to transfer to her office. I found this dental office after several weeks of searching for a new dentist. I was a little hesitant at first, but made the appointment for a new patient consultation. I saw Dr. Omid 6 days after making the appointment, and I must say I loved everything about her & her office staff. Claudia was very welcoming, as was Dr. Omid. After 40 mins of xrays, pictures, and a check-up, Dr. Omid explained some work that I needed to get me back on track (2 cavities). She had one of her office staff come in after her to go over an itemized statement & charges, and after I was set up for a f/u appointment the following week. My last dentist tried to scam me into having $4000 worth of work done & was reluctant to give me an itemized statement after I had asked! I'm so happy I didn't allow them to do any work on me. This office is unprofessional and fails to treat patients with dignity. I have had multiple calls that were not returned, and Dr. Omid is dishonest about price and cost. I started an implant procedure with one quote, after completing the abutment and implant she postponed the crown for four months but billed my insurance for everything. Then a few weeks later that price was changed to $1500 more than I was originally promised. I am deeply disappointed. I will escalate this further. read more

Dr. Omid is very nice, however, I am not going back any more. I have always been recommend 3 cleaning visits a year for the last 2 years by Dr Omid's office. Because I only did 2 cleanings a year in my whole life in the past and my insurance only covers 2, I expressed my concern multiple times about my out-of pocket expense and questioned about necessity of extra visit. The person at the office explained the future cost. Now I received a bill for extra payment on top of my payment done at the office for the extra cleaning visit without explanation. I called them up and they said insurance company rejected the claim and they didn't know about it. Ops, mistake can happen, but she still recommended to combe 3 time even after that. Sure, more cleaning is better, but is it really necessary? I have had no problem or concern on my tooth and gum for many years.I just don't see the point of they still keep pushing me extra cleaning that their patient is actually questioning over times that don't think it really necessary beyond insurance. I found Dr. Omid through my UCLA employment benefits list a few years ago. What stood out the most for me was that she is a UCLA graduate. I knew she would be the best, and it turned out she is. She is one of the nicest, most compassionate doctors I've met as far as the field of dentistry go. She is always very warm, patient and professional. I have been very satisfied especially this past year with my Invisaline. She helped me work out a payment plan with NO interest in order to pay for it. I am in my last month and am already happy with the results. Not only is Dr. Omid very sweet but the entire staff are also very kind and professional. They are always welcoming me with smiles and asking about how I'm doing with great sincerity. It feels very nice :) On top of the amazing staff, the office itself is BEAUTIFUL. Everything is sterile and clean, while also being aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The X-ray machines are hidden behind lovely wooden cabinets and the tools all seem like top of the line equipment. It's a very calm & relaxing environment to be in. I highly recommend Dr. Omid and her office if you're looking for a pleasant dentistry experience.
