Dr. Yunayev has to be the rudest doctor I have ever encountered in my 39years of living. He is horribly disrespectful, condescending, & egotistical. Any questions that are asked, are met with snide comments and an extremely arrogant air. Patients go to doctors in a very vulnerable state sometimes. We want to feel comfortable with who's hands we put our health in. Not just from a standpoint of knowing what they are doing medically, but also have at least a slight bit of compassion. Dr. Yunayev lacks an human emotions besides arrogance. I wouldn't recommend him to an enemy. DO NOT go to him unless you want to be belittled & leave feeling absolutely horrible and uncomfortable. This is going to be a long one! But I need to explain how good of a Physician Dr. Shawn Yunayev is. I was his patient at a clinic years ago, he left the clinic, and I continued to go to the new dr. Big mistake, he delivered my first child which made it a horrible experience. I Googled Dr Shawn, found his practice was close by and have been with him ever since. I've since moved to long Island and commute to bklyn just so I don't hve to change. I can list numerous reasons why I love him but I will state just a few. First, to be honest he can come off a lil straightforward and not as friendly as some, but i admire that. I don't need a friend, I need a DR that knows his craft and that's going to keep me and my child safe. And he did just that. When noticed I was high risk he referred me to a specialist that discovered my issue and they both came up with a plan that potentially saved me and my child's life. He don't play with his patients. Arriving at the hospital for my scheduled c section he saw that I was still in the waiting room, he said, "oh no this is unacceptable." I saw him angrily speak to someone and in five mins we was in a room.  He makes myself and my partner feel extremely comfortable ALWAYS which is great after the horrible experience with the first Dr. He played Beyonce for me to ease my nerves and talked me through every step of my c section. What I appreciated was he came in the room immediately after to explain details and checked on me EVERYDAY.  The staff in his office is AWESOME.. they are all friendly and will work to make sure your needs are met. I should hve been wrote a review on him but it's his most recent actions that I appreciated the most. I experienced some really bad pelvic pain over the weekend and the hospital suggested I see an OB so I waited for him. His office was extremely booked and had no appointments. Once finding out that it was me and that i insisted on seeing him, he said he will come in earlier than his first patient to take me but I had to be on time. I appreciate his staff for calling me back and forth bc he wasn't even the office that day. Once there i didn't feel rushed, he did everything that needed to be done and as always made me feel comfortable and apologized as if he caused me pain! Lol. As with anyone, there may be things u don't like, whether it's the office staff, his demeanor, the wait.. but one thing I can say is, you will get the best care, a knowledgeable doctor, and good treatment. The doctor is very hoggish and lacked empathy. Threaten to drop me as a patient because I misplaced my referral. I just went ahead and requested my medical records, before I was too far long in my pregnancy and would need to find a new doctor. Instead of producing my medical records in a timely manner they mailed me a antagonizing letter telling me that I will no longer be a patient there. I had to pay 75 cents per page for my medical records. Very disgusting attitude and super unprofessional. read more

I never do this, but I want to warn other women considering wasting their time and money visiting Dr. Shawn Yuneyev at Bella Donna Medical. About a month ago I visited the dr for a routine check up. They called me and told me that the dr wanted to discuss my results an we scheduled an apt for a week later. I showed up to the apt and they claimed that it was for a different date, in another week and half. They would not access my results, they refused to have another dr see me (even though he was standing around discussing movies with a nurse for the entire duration of the incident). I obviously became upset and said that I would have never agreed to wait 3 weeks to discuss test results that were obviously abnormal. They were adamant and very dismissive and I left in tears, shaking from the fact I could not access my own results and worrying about worse case scenarios. Not to mention that they were in direct violation of Obama care with states that patients can have access to their records. I came back the day they told me and they had completely cancelled my apt!!! After begging for my results, the dr saw me and told me that he hopes I will reconsider their office and to please come back for a follow up on about a month. I liked ha bedside manner and figured I would go back because my insurance is running out. When I called today they said that the dr will not see me anymore and that I was rude and I am not welcome in their office. Well, It was the worst experience of visiting the dr office in my life. I was supposed to have an appointment at 6.30 pm, that's why I went to the dr office at 6.10 pm. Then the front desk told me you can wait in the examination room. I saw a few people were behind me in the waiting room. Meanwhile, I was waiting for a doctor in the examination room. It was already 7. 30 pm. I decided not to wait for him and skip this appointment and leave, cause I cannot wait more than one hour. When I opened the door I was surprised cause I saw all patients were gone and they were consulted before me! I was so upset. A girl who was supposed to be the last one, she was before me! It is so ridiculous! I regret that I went to the follow up appointment, this person couldn't even take me at my scheduled time. Unfortunately, this doctor ruined my time. I could not believe what just happen ! I called in to see the dr and I was told only If I paid privately for the visit because I was not there in over a year! I assured Debbie that my coverage was active and I worked as a school teacher in the area. I was told they would see me on Monday but if I paid they would of saw me today.. I would not be calling if I wasn't in pain and due to the Jewish holiday I could not reach my primary doctor. So much for a local dr and common courtesy .. Debbie was not very sympathetic that I was in pain and as far as she was concerned there was not a thing she could do for me unless I paid cash as a person without coverage and there could be other problems not that she cared to find out. I usually do not like to write reviews about doctors offices but I'm hoping to help someone who is looking for an Ob during their pregnancy. RUN! Pros: -Most of the office staff is kind! -The wait time depends on what day and the time that you are in the office My reason for one star is due to the fact that he dropped me from his services at 28 weeks pregnant. Most normal doctors' offices have called me with results of a test and were able to answer any questions I had without a problem. I got a call from Dr. Yunayev while I was at work. He became frustrated when I had questions that I had about my health and the results of the test. A test came back abnormal and he requested that I come into the office at two specific times which I was unable to make due to me having another appointment that he already requested that I go to on one of those days. He wasn't willing to work with my schedule for me to come into the office at a later time on those same days. When I asked what I this new needed appointment was for, he responded with everything that DID NOT require me going into the office. He got very nasty over the phone stating that he didn't care that I had to work, that I couldn't meet his request and then ends the conversation saying that "I don't need to deal with this, I don't have patients that are high risk". He also said that I need to follow the rules. Just a very unnecessary response that I wasn't expecting. At the end of the confusion from this conversation, the office called back saying they called in prescriptions and gave instructions over the phone......exactly what they could've done from the beginning. Conclusion: At no point was I not cooperative with the prenatal care that this office provided. I made every appointment as they requested but me questioning an appointment that was obviously unnecessary caused Dr. Yunayev to show his true colors. At this point I'm happy to find a new Ob because I wouldn't have been comfortable returning to his office after this conversation. If you have no career or a job, this is the place for you. I was told to bring CASH to my first appointment, where I intended to confirm my pregnancy. Since I was supposed to get an ultrasound and I had a $400 remaining deductible, the receptionist told me to bring $100 cash only (not even an HSA check) or the doctor will not see me! My friend recommended this doctor and I wanted him to deliver my baby but I did not like this "cash upfront" approach. I doubt that it's even legal. I always pay my medical bills and I've been never asked for cash upfront. Luckily, there are other great doctors in Brooklyn. read more

Office: Clean Doctor: knowledgeable Staff: I've visited this office on more than one occasion and it seems as I continued going to this office the quality of the staff deteriorated. On my second to last visit of actually being in the office I had testing done for the HPV virus. Weeks later I was called and informed that I needed to come in for a follow up appointment so I took the day off from work (losing a day's pay) and went into the office. Once there two patients who arrived after me were called. Once I realized I went to the front desk and asked why wasn't I called. I was given an apology and called next. Once I went into the exam room. A young lady asked the basic questions of my last menstrual cycle and why I was here. I told her the staff called saying I needed to come in for another appointment. She excused herself to go check on that and came back with a blank face stating that I did not need an appointment that there was nothing to be done. I got dressed and left the office upset. The staff called me 5 minutes later to ask what the issue was and when I explained I was given another apology. Now after some time has passed I'm having issues so I scheduled an appointment to return to the office for an exam. I was called by his staff who informed me that the doctor would not be in the office for the day that I scheduled the appointment. I rescheduled to the following day. Within a couple minutes Victoria called me stating "after your last visit at the doctors we feel it's best you go somewhere else" I was confused especially since the last incident that occurred was at the fault of his staff. I requested she explain the situation to me and she kept repeating the same excuse. I then asked her who was we and she said Dr. Yunayev as well as the staff. So I requested to speak to the doctor. I mean who wouldn't want to understand why they are being banned from an establishment for something they weren't at fault for. Victoria informed me that the doctor was not in the office but she will "let him know" . I then asked her to clarify what exactly she will let the doctor know...whether it was that I requested he call me or that she was banning me from his office. Instead of continuing the conversation with me she hung the phone up in my ear. And let me tell you when I say hung the phone up...I truly mean HUNG IT UP . Directly in my ear. I have been a patient at this office for longer then he has been there as he took over from the previous Dr. My biggest mistake was believing he cared. I too like others have seen how nasty he gets with staff and disrespectful he is with patients especially if the patients exercises their right to refuse what he wants to do for treatment or delivery regardless of what is signed or not. I gave birth in May I told him the whole 9 months I wanted a vbac I did sign a paper saying I'd agree to a c-section but for me that was no contract for surgery it was a just in case situation that I signed for. Basically if I didn't go into labor on my exact due date or anyone for that matter regardless of the fact that they have a healthy history he will want to cut you open (he's done it to a few ppl or tried to in known situations) when you disagree with him he will flip out on you and disrespect you, his wife will also go in on this who works there as a biller. I denied to go in for the section as it wasn't necessary and me and baby were fine, he calls me screams at me like crazy refuses to let me speak and says I'm his only hope and no doctor or hospital in their right mind will give me my VBAC, mind you I had a section 19 years earlier, but thank God I ran from him and thank God for the 3 AMAZING Dr's at my hospital who successfully delivered me and were disgusted by this doctors actions. Had I reviewed him for pregnancy based treatments I would have ran to a midwife and it's a shame he took over that practice because nwo I have to find someone else because the original Dr there who retired would have NEVER acted towards their staff and patients as he did. It was disgusting and he should lose his license at a bare minimum. He has more then his 3 strikes, he is a bully and a very uncaring unprofessional individual who will kick you out if you don't do exactly what he says even though you know what's best for you. If you are looking for a new OB please RUN and do NOT go to him. He gets a ZERO. This was my first time meeting Dr Shawn I. Yunayevcfrom BellaDonna Medical, PC. He was the most nastiest person I ever met in my life. I had a 9am appointment. He did not care that i was in the office. He cursed two of his front desk staff. I was waiting for 25mins while this was happening. I opened the door several times so he would stop. From calling them Mother F...kers to you better F..king tell me who it was. He had no compassion that when he came in the room to me his face was so anger I asked if I could say something. Of course my conversation was about my visit. He tried to treat me as though I worked for him. After I opened my mouth he realized I was a patient who pays his bills. He was arrogant and very disrespectful. He was on a call with a pregnant woman that she had to get her husband to speak with him. I gathered he put him in his place and reminded him that his wife shouldn't have to be insulted or spoken so unprofessional. I then heard him apologizing and saying he wasn't meaning the way he sound. This is when he attacked the staff and did not spear any words. Then entered the room I was waiting in for 25mins and attempted to demeanor me. No one has to be abused by anyone that you are called out of your name. From the office staff to the doctor this is the best obgyn office i have ever been to! I tried multipule offices before finding this place and its by far the best. The doctor is very nice and takes his time with every visit. The office is super clean and the staff is friendly. And when your appt is at 4 you actually see the doctor at 4 . No 2-3 hour waits. My experience at this office was horrible. I was referred by a friend who heard this place had late hours. The day before my appointment the office calls to tell me that if I discuss fertility issues or parent planning with this physician I will be charged a "specialist co-pay", which is always higher. These people must be doing some funny business because OBGYNs are not considered specialists if they are in network with your insurance. Most people don't know this or read there explanation of benefits to double check so they must get away with this a lot. Based off of that, I should have known my experience was going to be off but I kept the appointment. Granted I was 20 minutes late however I waited over an hour and 15 minutes before I was seen. They clearly triple book patients, so even if I us on time it wouldn't have made a difference. The front desk receptionist was extremely rude. Referring to people by first name. She was asking another woman with the same name as me to complete a form and we both got up confused as to who she was talking too. I had to tell her that referring to people by last name or stating first and last name is more appropriate to avoid confusion, she acted like she didn't hear me. The tone in this woman's voice was horrible, not welcoming at all. As the doctor walks in his bedside manner was extremely off. Normally when you start a visit the MD asks the patient do you have any questions or concerns before we start, make the patient comfortable. Dude storms in, gives me his card, doesn't shake my hand or make eye contact- simply gross! He started by asking general questions you need for basic assessment however because I made his office aware I have a condition he was asking questions directed towards that in a very defensively manner about my care with my current fertility specialist. Saying he doesn't agree with her approach and apparently it hasn't been working as I have only had 1 live birth out of many failed fertility treatments. His tone was not warming at all, didn't sound empathetic or concerned more defensive than anything else. I thought that was a very direct comment especially something so sensitive as infertility with someone who is clearly having issues. If his office didn't scare the F out of me with the higher co pay scpiel maybe I would have felt more comfortable speaking with him BUT he didn't even give it a chance. I was so turned off I just wanted the visit to be over. When he did ask at the end of the visit if I had any questions for him I said NOPE quick ! After bashing my doctor and speaking to me condisending the ENTIRE TIME, why would I have questions!! It gets even worse, as I'm getting dressed someone knocks on the door to come in, I'm barely dressed but I open slightly and see who it is. One of the receptionist barges in to get something out of the drawer. She apologizes as she speeds in says she couldn't find what she was looking for, doesn't close the freaking door And then barges in again as I'm putting on my pants to check the same drawer again. In my head I'm saying "is this for real?! Is this office for real?!", talk about horror story. Also his office doesn't do labs or a urine analysis for their annuals, so let's talk about a comprehensive annual- NOT AT THIS PLACE. Never in my life have I ever had a Pap smear with no labs or urine analysis. He must have a very high turn over with his patients if he doesn't do crap for them. I've worked in healthcare for many years in various positions and never in my career have I ever treated patients in such a manner nor have been treated as a patient this way. I don't write reviews AT ALL, this experience was so horrific I felt I had to let future patients know. I wouldn't recommend this place to any woman. let me just start by saying this is my first baby so of course I am super paranoid about everything...I searched forever trying to find doctor who had good reviews and when I found this one I was relieved..or so I had thought.....now I am about 14 weeks along and had to hold off making an apt bcuz of issues with my insurance...two days befor my apt with him his office calls me to tell me that they WILL NOT see me bcuz I am over 13 weeks...I am absolutyyy discusted!! never in my life have I heard of such a thing ..how aweful to call a patient 2 days befor their apt to tell them that u will not see them bcuz they are "to pregnant" UNBELIVABLE your an obgyn isn't that ur job?? you should be ashameddd!!!! I decided to go to Dr. Yunayev because he was in my neighborhood and my sister had used him during her pregnancy and recommended him as attentive and non-alarmist. While I initially had no qualms with the doctor himself, his staff has proved time and time again to be incompetent and unpleasant. This office has repeatedly wasted my time by forcing me to come in person for test results only to be told that my tests were "abnormal" with no real explanation as to what that means. When I explained to the receptionist on one occasion that I would not be able to come in person due to my work schedule and that I was concerned about the time sensitivity of finding out what my "abnormal" results were - she assured me that it wasn't anything "too serious" and that it was "impossible" for the doctor to speak with me over the phone. I have constantly had issues with my pharmacy receiving my birth control prescriptions in a timely manner and now the office has instituted a new rule requiring blood tests every six months to ensure that you are not pregnant before they prescribe you refills. Certainly just another way to make money and waste my time. I was going away on vacation and needed to have my prescription refilled before I left. After attempting to make an appointment to get this senseless blood test done, I was told I needed to wait to come in because if the blood test was taken too early there was a chance I could get pregnant in the days after my blood test and before I started my new pack of birth control! I kid you not! This is how nonsensical these people are. Yet, I called back the next day and was able to make an appointment without any mention of magical pregnancies. On multiple occasions I have had my blood taken by presumably nurses 'in training', seeing as I was once almost stuck with an 18G needle. After going out of my way to have this test done on time just so I can get my prescription before leaving the state, my pharmacy still never received a call for my refills. When dealing with this office, in no way are they ever apologetic or concerned with your well being or satisfaction with service. They have a very take it or leave it attitude and I surely will be leaving. The bedside manner of Dr. Yunayev himself has only declined since I started seeing him. He seems to have no interest whatsoever in his patients who are not pregnant and the last time I went into the office for a pap smear I was treated by a doctor, again presumably 'in training', while Dr. Yunayev stood by as the procedure was nearly carried out without any lubricant! I don't see how it is fair to make an appointment with Dr. Yunayev and then have a woman I've never seen before with very little experience be the one treating me - without ever consulting with me or explaining who she was. I have no patience left for this office and thankfully will be moving before I have to go in for any more needless tests. It seems dollar signs are the only thing this office is concerned with $$.
