I had cataract surgery Dec '24 and my eye is worse. Because I had had LASIK surgery previously he said the enhanced cornea implants would probably not work, but then he changed his mind and said he thought the ones for $2640 would help. Well it is one year later and my distance is worse and I got it for distance. When I mentioned it to the other dr there, she just said, "well, you have two for reading now.". Watching tv is now somewhat blurry to me now. Reading is more difficult because my right eye it is blurry and I read with left eye. Very unhappy with results. I have now written him twice and he has not responded to either of my messages. Find another doctor. read more

Dr. Palmer removed a cataract from my left eye in December 2024. He was very courteous and professional. The surgery went well. I was told to call the office in August to make an appointment for December of this year. I have been trying to get in touch with someone to call me back to schedule an appointment and no replies. Booked my annual appointment and did not receive a reminder email prior to my appointment Even though I asked for that courtesy when appointment was booked. They did suggest that I call their Sacramento office to see If they had availability prior to 6 months from this date. I asked if they would check with them and they refused and said they did not offer that courtesy. She then said this conversation Is over and hung up on me. Over the past four weeks, I have faced significant issues with his office staff, who have ignored ALL my calls and messages. Here are the details of my experience. - My pharmacy faxed a request for a change of prescription to generic, but there has been no response from his office. - I left two messages for the staff member responsible for medication, but received no call back. - I spoke to the front desk twice, and while they assured me that I would receive a call from the concerned individual, I never did. - I stopped by the front desk in person and was told my request would be relayed, but I still received no follow-up. - I left a message for the office manager but received no call back. After reading reviews on yelp, I must admit that I was apprehensive and choosing Dr. Palmer to do my cataract surgery. However, everyone I spoke to had nothing but good to say so I went along. I must say I am definitely glad I did! Dr. Palmer is a caring, professional doctor, who did an excellent job, removing the cataracts from both of my eyes and replacing with new lenses. This doctor's office is unethical and I feel cheated out of $201.65. I called and explained my eye problem in detail, including what I needed done, and they made me an appointment. When the doctor walked in, he immediately told me they don't treat my type of eye problem in his office and he referred to another eye doctor. I received a bill for $201.65 for this visit. If I had not explained the problem in detail prior to my appointment then I would not feel ripped off but I did explain it. Whoever made the appointment should have made sure they treated the problem I explained and not made the appointment if they don't treat it. Dr Palmer is an excellent ophthalmologist. His kindness and gentleness are comforting. Dr. Minhas is kind and compassionate, as well. The optometry department staff is great at helping you pick frames for your glasses. The lab they use to make the glasses is very concerned with quality of vision correction. read more

I had a small piece of what I believe to be fiberglass from a grinding disc stuck in my eye. I had a referral placed on Sunday afternoon by urgent care and was able to see him the next day (Monday). The doctor removed the object without issue. I was even running 10 minutes late and gave them a call. The staff was able to accommodate me. The doctor and staff were great. The doctor kept me waiting in a room for an hour. Doctor NEVER washed his hands or wore gloves after seeing patient before me. (My door was opened so I saw him fudging with a light and never washed) He examined me and was touching my face and eyelids. He had his technician do my injection of cortisone in my eye. I have read negative reviews about Dr. Palmer's staff but I've never experienced anything other than a positive and professional staff- and I have been to his office MANY times. Also, its got to be tough for any doctor to receive negative reviews on yelp because they are very (if not totally) limited by HIPAA privacy laws. I have been a patient of Dr. Palmer for over 10 years. I have never had any issues with him or his staff. He is very thorough, and he takes the extra time to listen to my concerns (as I am diabetic). His front office and eye wear staff have always gone above and beyond for me without my asking; they are pleasant, and I could not say enough good about all of them. I would highly recommend Dr. Palmer to anyone. He is one of the kindest people I know, and that pours over into his practice. Yesterday was my first time visiting this office and I was worried about the negative feedback below. The front staff was very nice and professional. We waited outside and the front staff brought us forms out front to fill out and came out to collect them. We did have to wait 30 minutes to be called but that is so common since this younger generation doesn't know how to cancel an appointment, clinics are forced to double book. When we were roomed by Claudia she was so professional we thought she was the doctor. Dr. Minhas was so polite, professional, and just a sweet, kind person. She was so patient and answered all of our questions and showed us a diagram of an eye and clearly explained what I was experiencing. I would highly recommend Dr. Palmer's office. read more

I hadn't had my eyes checked in years, so I figured I might as well while I was home from college. I was able to get an appointment the very next day with Dr Baer, who is the younger/less-experienced sidekick to Dr Palmer. Normally, the 2nd-fiddle guys don't give you quite the positive personal experience you get with the lead, but Dr Baer was great, both professionally and socially. Even Dr Palmer swung by and had a nice chat with me. In addition to the fact that these are 2 great guys, the office's simple, relaxing, clean decor makes it even more of a comfortable experience. I will definitely go back if I ever have eye issues, but for now, I'm still 20-15! read more

Dr. Baer is great. Very knowledgeable and keeps you informed and educated on what the best thing for your eyes is. Having said that, I'm sick of their wait times. I made an appointment over a month in advance, due to that being the only time they had open. I arrived 15 minutes early and waited over 30 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. After finding out I needed glasses at a different optometrist I chose to come here due to the fact that it is closer for my disabled mother. She has worn glasses her whole life and wanted to be there for my first pair. After a little wait we were confronted by an employee named April. She asked what we needed and I told her we were in to get myself a new pair of glasses & asked her if they accepted my insurance (I had received their office information from my insurance) April argued with me that I was incorrect but "she'd ask" April came back and with attitude and once again told me that my insurance wasn't accepted and that I was lying that I had received their information from my insurance. She then turned her back and left myself, friend & disabled mother alone in the front office. WE WERE WILLING TO PAY FULL PRICE FOR THEM REGARDLESS. We are now going somewhere else and will not only NEVER be back here but warn others as well to steer clear of this place. April even had the audacity to argue and raise her voice with me as her manager stood right infront of her, looking at her in disbelief. April should be fired. My daughter and I have been a patient of Dr. Baer for a few years. I believe the doctor is amazing! However, their office policies shocked me today when I received a call from a collection agency on a $44 bill that was never sent to me. I never received a call from his staff regarding the outstanding balance AND I've been back in the office once or twice since the December bill of $44 and nobody told me it was outstanding or I would have paid it. I saw Dr. Palmer a couple of months ago. While I did wait a bit, I found his staff to be very cordial and polite. I also found Dr. Palmer efficient, knowledgable and friendly. He recommended I see Dr. Baer since it had been a while since my last eye exam. Today, I saw Dr. Baer. While Dr. Baer was running behind, I found the staff again very pleasant and Dr. Baer professional, cordial and knowledgable. I will be returning and recommend them both. I am mixed on the number of stars I feel inclined to give since half of this business is great and the other half not so much. Hands down 5 stars for Dr. Baer- Good mannerism, professional, thorough, very nice, spends quality time for treatment and assessment and oh I might add for you single ladies- handsome and he smells amazing. hhehe However, every time I have an interaction with the office staff, it is far below average. I am a very laid back, easy going person and try to give others the benefit of the doubt in situations but each time I feel like I am an annoyance to the staff. I know they are busy and stressed out to get patients in and out in a timely manner but please do not forget about your customer service!!! I would rather wait and be treated nicely and know my business matters than have attitude. Keep in mind that I have questions and I am not an expert about my eyes nor my insurance. Recently, it took four phone calls to have my issues resolved. I finally asked to speak with the office manager who did not even apologize that her staff dropped the ball on mailing a written prescription and a sample for my allergy ridden eyes. When I mentioned I had moved, the person didn't even change it initially. She said she would when she called back which didn't happen hence my numerous phone calls. It has now been a week and my eyes are still miserable so I am hoping it arrives today.If I didn't live so far, I would have gone to pick it up. I have my yearly exam scheduled in a couple of months and am really hoping to see an improvement. If not, this office is getting the ax in my book especially since I live so far now. I have been going here for a couple years now. Recently they stopped taking my eye insurance, but assured me that they could bill my medical. OK... as long as I am covered, who cares. Right? But, then, when I got there, they informed me that there was an additional $40 (over an above what they charge me insurance) for "contact fittings". Even their employee who had to inform me of this extra charge apologized, and said is was BS Then, I get another bill from them for $65 a few weeks later because they billed my insurance company more than the contracted rate. It might be my fault, but I had always thought these guys were on the up-and-up, and didn't think I needed to question every charge. The doctor (Baer) is professional and seems competent. Their staff is awesome. Location is clean and convenient. But their business practice left a lot to be desired. I think something has changed recently... there are not that many reviews... but I notice that in 2009/2010 they were positive... now two negatives in a month. read more

As I see from reading other reviews, I am not the only person who thinks this way. If the two Dr.'s don't address this issue with their employees, I am sure it will eventually affect their business if it has not already done so. I have been a patient of Dr. Palmer and Dr. Baer almost since the inception of doctor Palmer's office in Folsom. Recently I received an EOB "Explanation of Benefits" from my health insurance company that listed the description of service as OFF. VISIT. SPEC . I was confused about why my health insurance was billed when I have a vision plan "VSP" that I pay a premium on each month and would cover the routine exam I received. Due to Covid -19 like many others, I had to delay my yearly exam and went in for this appointment almost 18 months later. After waiting in the lobby for over an hour past my appointment time, I finally got into the exam room where Dr. Palmer did the exam, told me my eyes looked great and all in about 10-12 minutes it was done. I have always felt good about Dr. Palmer's legitimacy until a few weeks ago when I called his office to inquire about why my vision plan "VSP" was not billed for this service. His office staffer explained to me that it was because I had a special office visit that required this type of billing. I told her that I did not have any special services at this very typical eye exam, so she then went to look at my file and told me that I had a diagnosis that makes this billing necessary. The problem with this communication and the diagnosis she shared with me is that I had never heard of it before this phone call. No one has ever shared this with me and this most recent exam did not dictate any type of special treatments or counseling from Dr. Palmer. I want to know why I have never had this conversation with Dr. Palmer. I asked for a message to be given to him, that I would like to talk to him about this, but never received a call back. I called again a couple of weeks later and the receptionist went to check his desk and said my message was still there and she would let him know that I called again. Still no call back. I am so disappointed and now leery to continue as a patient. Reading some of the past Google reviews I am concerned about the billing in this office and the description of service being given to not just my health plan, but others too. This is wrong! I hope this Yelp review will finally give me some type of response from the doctor. read more

I just happened to see the Yelp reviews and was surprised to see several negative comments, generally in regard to the office staff and wait times. I must say I have never encountered any rude treatment from any of the office staff, technical assistants or Dr. Palmer. Conversely, I feel I have always been treated with care, respect and compassion. Dr. Palmer has been treating me over the years for cataracts and diabetic retinopathy. I was referred by my optometrist of over 20 years and feel I must let others know what I experienced in this office. I waited 1 hour 35 minutes and the office staff was rude, abrupt, and unfriendly. They were not only abrupt with me, but I witnessed rude behavior between staff themselves with one nurse calling the other "rudey" and walking out. Dr. Palmer was kind but the visit took about 5 minutes. I was referred for 2 areas and he looked at one of them. I am saddened that his staff has such negative customer service and hope that the reviews will help them get some professional development that will help improve their service in the long run. Dr. Palmer was my first real eye doctor. And all I can say is I'm glad I found him. The medical staff is extremely friendly and Dr. Palmer was very patient and never kept any information from me. If something needed to be done he stopped to thoroughly explain the procedure and I was instantly put at ease. Even Dr. Baer (who I assume fills in for Dr. Palmer on rare occasions?) is awesome. I have been seeing Dr. Baer (the 2nd doctor in Dr. Palmer's practice) for about 4 years and my husband has been seeing him for longer. He is great. Very professional and knowledgeable. The medical staff and glasses specialist are all very easy to deal with. However, in my experience (and from reading other reviews, the experience of others as well) the office staff is very often rude and abrupt in their dealings. I feel 100% confident in the medical care I receive from Dr. Baer but it unfortunately comes at the price of the condescending behavior of the office staff. Great doctors; several uncaring, curt staffers. After seeing the doctors in this practice for many years, I tried to make a pair of progressive glasses work. They had to be sent back to the lab several times (one issue/time was something about the glasses that wasn't right). I kept trying but I couldn't see out of them. Finally I was told that the only glasses they could make were bifocals with a large ugly lens in the middle of the lens. I was very clear several times that I would never wear the embarrassing-looking glasses and asked them if they do anything else to help (forgive the balance/put single vision lenses in?). I had already paid the office about $100 for these glasses that I would never wear. The answer at the end of the day was NO. I still had a balance on glasses I would never wear. I called my vision insurance company who helped me offset some of the cost of the lens (thank you vision insurance company). When I went to go pay the bill (for the same glasses I will never wear), I was told that the bill was now in collections. Called them; they had never heard of me. I spent time all week calling Dr. Palmer's staff who never felt the need to return my calls. I left messages, all of which went unanswered. I finally called today and paid the bill to a very rude staffer. I will never return to this doctor's office. What a shame since the doctors are nice and thorough. Please train your staff to be more caring, flexible and less rude. read more

My wife researched eye surgeons.. far and away the best in Northern California. He is the best and spends time with patients explaining everything thoroughly. Highly recommended both office staff and everyone is as helpful as possible. Wait times are normal and expect that sometimes there are people who take precedence due to their situations being critical. read more

Went to see Dr.Palmer for increased pressure in eyes, he performed numerous tests and felt the need to track me. I felt he was very thorough and gentle(I do get a bit sensitive with fingers close to my eyes). His assistants were young, sweet and made me feel at ease.
