I was pleasantly surprised by the decor inside, they have spent a great deal for this location. I ordered chips and salsa to start. These were not complimentary but when they arrived the salsa was fresh and unique. I was glad I ordered them. My wife chose the carne asada burrito. She raved about the flavor and could only finish half. I ordered a unique taco which had an authentic name this gringo cannot remember but it was built on a house made corn tortilla about twenty inches long and ten inches wide. Steak, Mexican cream, tomatillo sauce, freshly shredded lettuce and cheese. I've never had anything like it but it is awesome. The service was quick and efficient. Very delightful people. The check had included a 15% Service Charge so I was glad to see the options on the screen to add a tip began at a level that matched up with the service charge at a reasonable level. I only had one complaint, The music was a little loud. The sound system is great and I loved the authentic music but the baseline was pumping loud enough to hurt my ears. I'd recommend adjusting the volume or the mix to make it a little more comfortable. Overall I loved this experience and will definitely want to come again. No pictures, sorry.

Absolutely delicious!…read more I got a BOGO free burrito coupon from their FB feed, so why not? So glad I did! I had the spicy green chili burrito--delicious! Smothered inside and out with their very fine green chili. The tortillas seem homemade, it was fresh and good. My wife had the carne asada burrito. I got a bite of it and the beef is delicious! Such good flavors. I also had the pinto beans and rice, both are very good. The horchata, made with almond milk, was creamy and just the right amount of cinnamon and sweet. They serve flour and corn tortilla chips with three salsas. The chips were excellent. The flour chips are deep fried, really good. The red salsa was the hottest but not bad for heat. The green was good. Now the crema sauce was my favorite, it is really excellent. Nice restaurant, comfortable chairs, nice decor that goes along with their theme. Looks like a comfortable bar. Service was friendly and accommodating. I would like to eat here again and take advantage of the FB coupon for their tacos. Highly recommended! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

They've remodeled in the past three years and I really like what they've done! Beautiful decor and it's now a sit down restaurant, which I really like!! Menu is very similar, but expanded! They brought delicious chips and 3 salsas to the table! The crème one was my favorite!! I got a Pacifico to drink and my husband got a Corona nonalcoholic. I went for the Chicken Mole taco with a side of black beans and rice! Absolutely delicious!! My husband got the Bean and Cheese taco and the Impossible meat taco with a side of tots! Service was great! I'm so glad we finally made it back! Really want to come more frequently!! Also heard they have good breakfast tacos in the morning! Will try those next!

The environment is bright, inviting and not too noisy. We booked a table but some of our party was late. No one minded, and several of us enjoyed some fresh guacamole prepared tableside while we waited. Everything we ordered was well made and presented. Portions large enough that leftovers were inevitable. Quedadillas. Chile Colorado, Mole Chicken Enchiladas, and Burritos Dorados, which have Chile Colorado inside. Everyone enjoyed their meal, with one exception that one of us didn't like the Burrito Dorado (someone else enjoyed theirs, just a matter of personal taste). Their entree was replaced with another, with no fuss. I had the mole chicken, the first time I've had it here, as Chile Colorado is my favorite. The mole chicken turned out to be one of those dishes that you take the first bite and you are stunned. You look around to see if anyone is watching your reaction It was truly amazing. Service was very attentive and helpful, not hovering or rushed. They took a family picture for us on our way out. Looking forward to our next visit. Parking can be a challenge. There is a small lot. After 5:30 there is a neighboring office that permits Parking for El Cholo guests.

I guess this restaurant started in LA over 100 years ago and in 2023, they opened up a location in Utah for the centennial. The look and feel is upscale and classy mixed with old school. And I guess Jack Nicholson has been eating at the LA location regularly since the early 60s. Our server was this guy who had a little Nacho Libre look going on and was great. I got the Taste of History sampler platter and it had major portions. My wife got the Tres Tacos Al Carbon. Both were delicious and incredible!!! You MUST go to El Cholo!

After sitting, we were brought chips and salsa. They also let us know there is a salsa bar where we can try different salsas. My husband and I both tried a few and really liked them. I like that they have options for salsa since my husband and I have different preferences for spice level. For drinks, they have a really fun margarita menu providing a variety of margaritas as well as other drinks. They do also have a bar area with sports games on TV if that's the vibe you're looking for. I ended up just getting a Diet Pepsi. They have fountain and it was actually a really good brew even tho it was Diet Pepsi!! For food, we split the fish tacos and ceviche Acapulco. The fish tacos were amazing. I really liked the cilantro cream from the salsa bar on top of these. I would go back for these for sure!! They use mahi mahi, and it is fried. Cooked to perfection!! We didn't like the ceviche as much. The sauce had Clamato in it, which I felt like took away from the lime flavoring. It wasn't my favorite since I do prefer a strong lime flavor and chopped tomatoes, but if you like Clamato then I could see this being good. Overall, things were great! Service was prompt. They brought refills for drinks and also chips. I think the chip refill cost $1 as shown on the menu. I would def recommend trying this place!

Who wants a storytime? You. You do…read more A long, long time ago, there was a new restaurant along Bangerter and 5400 S. It was called Alberto's and it was a new type described to me as molcasalsa and it was great. It was always open and you got a ton of quite excellent food. I ate there for quite a while 3 or 4 times a week and was well familiar that if I got a combination plate, I would have some left over for the next day as I could never manage to finish one. This was due to all of the food you would get, lots of meat, lettuce, cheese, refrieds, rice, and usually at least a couple of giant grill-warmed tortillas. A competitor opened up not too far away, which was called Beto's and which was substandard in every way...but it was also cheaper and ushered out Alberto's, at least that one. I think there was maybe one downtown that still hung in there. This development saddened me considerably and I had to find a new haunt, but nothing could ever quite replace the glory of those early times. Anyway, years passed and I moved to a new area, relative to a place called Hector's, which was non-assuming (I drove past it repeatedly because I didn't remember it existed) and on the other side of one of the nastiest side street gutters around. The food was quite solid, more or less what I wanted from that kind of place, but my tastes had changed and I didn't make the plunge to risk ripping the undercarriage of my car out that often. Then Hector's went away. In its former place is now Beto's and, as before, I miss Hector's. Funny, that. As to the food, I got a carne asada plate, which I find is usually the safest bet for a new Mexi (to me) joint. The rice was quite good, the beans pretty dodgy, no tortillas were a part of this, at all, it was considerably more expensive than that former Alberto's platter I mentioned earlier, and the steak is again those really thin slabs that seem all the rage at this kind of place, rather than chopped into small pieces on a hot grill, so you can get all of that Maillard effect goodness. This downgraded experience is endemic in restaurants generally and it should be neither what we want nor tolerate. I get it, they're out in those mean streets just trying to survive, but if we want to have the nice stuff again and keep it around, conditions need to exist to allow that...which means slaying the various corporate and currently highly monopolistic dragons.

We ordered two sausage burritos with no potatoes and one mix burrito with no potatoes and we got two sausage and one steak. My sausage burrito had "stake" written on the outside, but my husband is the one who ended up with the actual steak burrito. My burrito had half the tortilla completely raw. It looks uncooked, feels uncooked, it's obvious. I know it's not a big deal, but they had to see it and they didn't stop to fix it. That's bad service - period. Whoever is in the kitchen tonight should get talked to. Bad, bad, bad.
