I asked him to make me a vegetarian plate of mixed salads and falafel while I moved my car. (The lot behind the restaurant doesn't belong to them and you'll get towed!) The pita, humus, babaganoush, papas bravos, and pickled turnips were very good. The standouts: 1. the lightest, airiest falafel I've ever had. If I knew felafel could be this good, I'd order it more often. 2. Rice with cardamum pods. Why have I never had cardmum in rice before? I've eaten at literally dozens of Middle Eastern restaurants, and this was a first. It was a new taste and absolutely raised the bar on the rice. Finally It's about Thyme was a bargain. I think I paid C$15 for an overflowing plate of food plus a bottle of water. The portion was so generous that I took it home and ate the leftovers for lunch the following day. And here's a lagniappe: the restaurant is across the street from the Salem Chapel British Methodist Episcopal Church where Harriet Tubman was a member. We don't eat enormous quantities, so I can only comment on the fabulous Baba Ghanouj and the Donair meat sandwich. Donair is lamb and beef; the sandwich was wrapped in pita bread, filled chock full of meat, lettuce, onions, garlic and accompanied by delicious pickles (unlike store-bought, maybe sour?) and Tahini sauce. The Baba was unlike what usually passes for that, but small chop of eggplant, tomatoes, with pomegranate seeds and sauce. It was just fabulous! We were in the area for a competition, so stopped by again the next day to sample something else. Needed just a snack, so had another eggplant concoction, Mutabel. It was also delicious and more like what is served as Baba Ghanouj in the States. Very garlicky and delicious. The prices were reasonable. We had a nice chat with the family who runs the restaurant, who are refugees from Syria, a really nice family. The restaurant is decorated with lovely inlay pieces, and Syrian art. The service was friendly and quick though most tables were full at lunch.
