I can't say enough good about the experience I had here. I had a different image in my mind of this place from seeing ads, and hearing word-of-mouth. I pictured more of a neo-Victorian revival type place where everyone working there would have mustache wax, and wearing aprons and talking like old-timey sports broadcaster, offering you a old lather shave and some musk. To be fair, that would also be kind of awesome in its own right. But it was simply a cool, inviting, modern-looking men's barber shop. They had a lounge area in the back with sports on the tv and nice, comfortable looking recliners, and some cool art on the wall. I was digging it right away. The moment I walked in, I was greeted and offered a drink. Which, by the way, offering beer to your guests? Totally amazing. That, plus the cool atmosphere alone already began to make up the higher prices in my mind. But then the actual shave and cut began. Everyone there was awesome. The moment I sat down, we were chatting and even joking around with the other barbers and customers. It was just an all-around good, friendly vibe. The haircut and my beard trim were both perfectly on-point, even with little to no direction or course-correction from me. I simply told him what I wanted in general and he went for it. Besides the Exton location, they also have locations in Philly and Doylestown as well. So no matter where you are in the general Philadelphia region, you can get to one. I usually get cut at their Exton location but since the person I usually go to left i decided to go to the Malvern Location. I selected any available staff and was scheduled with William. When i got there you could tell he did not want to be there at all. He asked me what I want done and I said I wanted a fade on the side and a little off the top. He took so much hair off the top. My hair has never been this short. He did not face me towards the mirror the whole time so I had no idea what was going on. I was very unhappy with the cut. I also still have a red line/cut on my cheek and neck from where he lined up my beard. Its been 4 days and it is still there. read more

What, you say, would cause me to so go against the grain of every glowing review? Allow me to state my experience: Decided to put my wife's gift certificate to use on a dreary Saturday am. Called and was told that for my gentlemen s haircut and strait razor shave it would take about an hour, so we settled on the first available afternoon appointment. Arrived to find (to my pleasure) a cool waiting room with deep cushion chairs. Was asked if i'd like something to drink (coffee sitting on counter). Being new to this, i had no idea she was offering upscale, gratis alcoholic beverages - until the next guy came in and they began talking about a new beer. Needless to say, I changed my mind, - but was a little surprised she didn't "orient" me a a new customer. From here things started to go downhill. One of the 3 barbers (a female) got engaged with another barber (owner?) in a heated discussion about marketing (or so it seemed). Turns out she was my barber, was obviously angry, and not about to discontinue this "discussion" while cutting my hair. While i tried to make chit chat to lighted the mood, it was uncomfortable - kind of like being on a date with a married couple that argue the whole evening - nough' said? When she finished cutting my hair after about 20 minutes or so, she removed the barbers towel from me and walked over to continue her "discussion". I honestly had no idea what was next, and was left hanging so to speak. After a few minutes of waiting I approached the cashier to find out what was up. "Oh we only had you down for a haircut" she says. Obviously i'm a bit surprised given the conversation in the morning. After a quick consult, I'm offered the option of getting my strait razor shave with their apprentice (at no charge). Not really feeling the love at this point, i'm not exactly looking for a reason to return with a partial Gift certificate... so I decline. They fit me in with barber #1 as he is waiting for his next appoint to arrive. My shave seemed like about a 10 minute affair, and i was whisked out of there about in about 45 minutes all told, including my wait time. Don't get me wrong, both the haircut and the shave were well executed. But that's not what your buying. I can get that at my usual barber at a fraction of the cost. The selling/price point for this is wrapped into the"upscale" service angle. Unfortunately, i the level of professionalism I encountered here was questionable at best. Let's review: 1) No orientation to, or validation of, the "premium" service i was to receive, 2) A running argument in front of customers that was not only inexcusable, it made me feel like i was intruding. 3) A level of service inconsistent with the expectations they set- i figure I was actually served for about 35 minutes or so (exclusive of "wait time"). Had my experience been different, I likely would have found an excuse to treat myself to the occasional ' luxury - its a cool concept... just was not well executed. read more

Today I decided to treat myself, and do something I have never done before after having a couple of not so great days. I booked an appointment to get a haircut and beard trimming. When I walked in the door I was greeted by man's best friend, his name Leroy. A most gracious, calm and friendly Shetland sheepdog mix. Feeling better already, I was then greeted by a nice young lady (covid precautions in use temp taken mask on). Next up, Mike, the barber. We had a great conversation about life and family. It was very uplifting and positive. The haircut and beard trimming were "on point." I walked out feeling, and having a much better outlook and mindset then when I walked into Shaving Grace. $45 for a 15 minute cut with no wash is pretty steep. The cut was fine but it's the atmosphere that was terrible. Had to listen to a friend of the owners curse and tell stories about his ex-wife and girlfriends with every other word being f*ck as he drank his beer at 10:00 am and the owners laughed at his stories as his three young boys were unattended. Awesome experience my first visit. I shave my head and have a full beard. Went in for a trim and shaping and they not only offered me a nice tall glass of beer or water- they pointed me in a better direction for shaving my head with what they use. It's a very nice parlor and waiting area, super cool staff and they know all things barbers should know. Place used to be so much better than what it is now. I took my nephew to the Exton location for his first shave a few days ago. The atmosphere was chaotic - the staff didn't have much of an idea of what was going on. It was busy, but not so much to cause the staff to be so uncoordinated. We weren't even offered the option of a beverage, even though customers who came in before and after us were. First off, the appointments I had made via phone several days before weren't entered correctly, which caused quite a bit of confusion. Took time for the staff to figure out what was going on. Secondly, the barber who took care of me did a great job - I am pleased with my haircut and beard trim. However, he was not a very pleasant person and made the whole experience awkward. The other barbers were actively engaged with their clients, having fun chats and making the experience enjoyable. My barber just grunted when I would say anything and made it very clear he didn't want to be there. Basically, the staff just grudgingly took care of just and pushed us out the door. It's the kind of service I would expect from Supercuts, not from this establishment. I'd recommend avoiding this place - better options out there where the experience is far more pleasant. read more

I came here on a referral to Shaving Grace and my teen son had his hair cut with Jason. This is our first barber experience, I've been taking him to salons his whole life due to his thick head of beautiful hair with several cowlicks. A bad haircut on him is really glaring. Well today was the best experience of all!! My son came out and showed me his "shaved" sideburns and he had a fabulous cut. He was even more pleased that it took 1/2 the time of the salon and he wasn't all itchy from the hair trimmings. He said this is the only place we are going in the future. Happy Mom. This place is great for haircuts, shaves, and beard trims. Pricey but worth it, however. I am only giving 1 star due to the morally and legally questionable practice of having an untrained 9 month old puppy in the store with a "service dog" collar on it. The dog was well behaved and I am fine with it being there but was not in any way a trained or in training as a service dog. To be clear, the dog was not the issue here. The fraudulent way the dog was being allowed to inhabit the store was the issue. I will not be returning due to the issue this type of thing creates for people who actually need a service dog. It is deceptive and wrong and I will not do business with a company that allows or endorses this kind of fraud. read more

Went in for a beard trim at the EXTON location. Staff (I believe his name was Brian) who was available to serve me was smoking in front of the counter and was smelling of cigarettes. On top of that, when I asked for advice on beard trimming ideas that would possibly suite me, his response was extremely rude. I stopped service and immediately left the salon. This was my first visit to the salon and I visited the place based on the positive reviews I found online. Unfortunately my experience was very bad and I will never go back. read more

Worst haircut my son ever received in 16 years. Inexperienced barber (really young) who didn't blend the cut, didn't know how to thin super thick hair, one side on top longer than the other, and sideburns about a quarter of an inch difference. We could have gone to Hair Cuttery and gotten a better cut! Still charged same rate as seasoned barber - $35. This barber either shouldn't be at this upscale salon or should be closely mentored and given more education. Further, the customer definitely shouldn't be paying the same rate as a more experienced person, and the customer should be given a choice about whether or not they want a cut from someone with far less experience. read more

Let me preface this by saying I have been a customer (not regular) of shaving grace and gone there for a shave and haircut with my son several times. Last Friday I had an appointment for 1:30 to clean up for an upcoming board meting and high school reunion. I showed up 1:20 for my 12:30 appointment. I promptly checked in. (had to go to the back no one was attending front area). At one point the person I had my appointment with asked me if it was okay to change the channel. Then a walk-in came in and my hairdresser took the appointment. Twenty minutes after my scheduled appointment time I went to the back to ask about the status of my appointment and the individual stated that he took a walk-in and did not know I was there. He saw me when he changed the channel on the TV (asked me ) and saw me waiting when he asked the walk-in if he had an appointment. went for a skin fade and the only thing I got was a 35$ ripoff. I think they need to train their barbers on the actual art of cutting hair, at least with clippers. I only had the girl there cut my hair but I have seen enough. if the other barbers didn't step in to correct it they are all as bad as she was.
