My primary care physician joined Sharp Rees/Stealy a few years ago and sadly my personal medical care went out the window. Instead I feel as if I'm a mere chart number and my care needs to fall within perimeters set by only Sharp Rees/Stealys HMO standards. If you have a PPO I suggest that you look into all your options prior to joining this clinic. I've also found that it takes months to schedule an appt with my doctor. I'm not sure about you but when I need medical care months is not a practical option. read more

I have been so happy with Sharp Rees-Stealy La Mesa. I wanted to write a specific review of our pediatrician Dr. Eric Reed, because he is the best out there, and he deserves it. So here goes! Dr. Reed is the greatest pediatrician I have ever encountered. I feel so lucky to have had him care for my two young children, and I am devastated to be losing him, as I am moving to Chicago in a few weeks. I chose Dr. Reed because of a recommendation from my OB before I gave birth to my son. From the minute Dr. Reed visited me in the hospital when my son was just a day old, I was not only struck by his warm, gentle, genuine, caring, concerned demeanor but also by the immediate sense of trust and security I felt as he spoke to me. He knows his stuff (he immediately noticed that my son was tongue-tied and took care of it that very day so that we wouldn't have any latching problems during feeding (something my older daughter's pediatrician failed to notice about her when she was born)), but he also respects his patients and their families and gives 100% attention to their questions and concerns, regardless of how crazy they may seem. I feel that I can talk to Dr. Reed about anything, and no matter what, he will take care of it (yes, he takes care of me as much as he does my children!!). Dr. Reed is all about the patient/patient's family, and he is proactive when he needs to be, which I really like. He wants problems to be fixed, he wants his patients healthy and free of pain, and he promptly does what he needs to do to make that happen. I came in with a case of thrush (both my son and I had it from breastfeeding), and when I said I was fine with going on medication, he didn't hesitate to prescribe medicine to my son as well as to myself. "I have to give you medicine too if we want to really clear this," he said. "Otherwise it is just going to keep coming back, and we don't want that to happen." I was so grateful for this, as most doctors I have had would have probably asked me to go see my own doctor if I wanted to go on medicine myself. But Dr. Reed makes it easy. He respects and understands how taxing illnesses and health issues can be when you have young children, and he accommodates his patients without hesitation. When my daughter had pink eye, he prescribed my son eye drops as well, even though he didn't have anything yet. "He is going to get it," Dr. Reed said. "I want to save you the phone call and the extra trip to the pharmacy when he does." Lo and behold, my son did start showing symptoms, and the already-prescribed drops saved us. Dr. Reed is also AMAZING at answering emails. Our email correspondences have saved me from unnecessarily showing up to his office so many times. I can ask him anything about my kids and he always responds the day I write to him (usually within hours, and probably even on his days off). He has reviewed symptoms and clarified diagnoses for me all through email, and he has guided me in making so many decisions just by writing back and forth as well. I feel like he knows me and my kids so well, and I just really value that. He has put a lot of time into our family, and I am just the mother of two of his patients! I am sure he does this for all of his patients, and that, to me, is a truly dedicated and committed pediatrician. I don't think I will ever find anyone as good as Dr. Reed in Chicago. If I find someone with half of the dedication and true love and passion for helping children and families feel better in all aspects, then I will be lucky. I am forever thankful for the time he has put in, the genuine care and concern, the go-getting, let's-get-to-business-and-solve-this-quickly type of attitude he leads with, and the overall respect he has shown for me and for my family. If you are in the San Diego area and need a good pediatrician, you will not be sorry with Dr. Reed. He is, simply, the best. read more

These guys really live up to their 3 star review. Avoid this place at all cost. I would waste more of my time bashing these guys but the 3 ladies at the front desk will make sure you feel unwelcome. Then when you are finally seen by a physician they make you feel like your wasting their time. Poor poor excuse for a medical provider. read more

I really like it here. Me and my family been coming here for a while now. Always been good to me. Dr. Stroika in the urgent care very nice, personable, patient, and caring. read more

Good service at the doctor but the worst parking structure EVER!! Park at the mall if you can, I avoid this place be of parking.

Went to Sharp Grossmont Urgent Care on Saturday, Nov 3rd, after suffering a fairly deep, 10 inch long laceration to my arm. The staff was excellent in keeping me informed of wait times, which were fairly short. Once taken into the back, the entire staff was funny, very professional, and very caring. Particularly excellent was Dr. Shirazi, who stitched my arm up very well. Other doctors were coming in to see her work and were definitely impressed, It's now been 10 days, and the stitches are half out as we speak. The wound healed great and it appears there will be very little scarring. All in all it was a great experience even though this all happened on my birthday. As I left, I was handed a birthday card in which everyone who worked that day signed and left a note. The comments were witty and just topped off a great experience in what looked like a bad situation. All in all, from initial wound to going home happy, the ordeal took 2 hours. read more

Waited over 4 hours just to be told I was put on the wrong wait and I have to wait 4 more hours. The man was rude. I asked him about the swelling on my face and he told me it's probably a pimple and laughed at me. I'm very unhappy with the service at the emergency room. read more

I cut two fingers with a power tool and had to go to Sharp La Mesa's Urgent Care on a Sunday morning. The nurses and Dr. Daniel Chang were extremely attentive and compassionate as they performed their duties even though I was not in the best mood. Dr. Chang had the difficult job of trying to keep one of my fingers whole and did very well. They even followed up with a mailed card to my home, which was a first. read more

After 2 1/2 years of going to doctors and labs at Sharp Rees-Stealy here in La Mesa, they just told us today that they no longer accept our insurance, Health Net, effective Jan. 1. No notice, no reason given as to their change in policy. Great PR, Sharp-Rees-Stealy. read more

The doctors are amazing in all areas primary urgent care n er. But the pharmacy sucks. The pharmacist is rude and uncaring now im at La Mesa pharmacy where they make me feel like family read more

This has got to be the worst experience of my life. I went into to this urgent care today. I was experiencing blurry vision, had an uncontrollable bowel movement, headache, nausea and my blood pressure was elevated. It took almost an hour to be seen. Well after seeing this doctor, I could see why. This doctor spent most of the time talking about nonsense. I seriously thought I was on a hidden camera show or on the new show Dr. Ken. He came in and stood so close to me that his arm was up at an angle just to shake hands. I said my name and asked how he was... He pats my shoulder and says- oh I'm so happy to hear this because my next question I was going to ask you is if you spoke English. He went on to say how his mother was an immigrant blah blah... He brought out his tool to check my ears and eyes, which the cord was stretched out as far as it could be and was hitting my face. He asked me to focus on a dot and then spent another wasted minutes talking about what a good job I did focusing because normally patients don't like the light. I can't tell you how many times he patted me like a dog and stood so close, his breath made my hair move and the farther I leaned back, the closer he got- with his arm resting on my legs. They should note----speaking close to my face and leaning in doesn't make it feel personal or ... He listened to my breathing, tapped my knees and asked if I had been feeling like this, I said no. Of course, more wasted talk about how many people normally feel the bug coming on.... He asked if I worked and I said I would be off tomorrow and he said he would write a note to get my out of work for 2 days and then went on more wasted time talking about how he likes people to rest and how I should rest, because I would need to rest.. blah blah.... He then told me to not eat anything greasy --- and began listing greasy foods. Not once did he address all of my symptoms, did not ask about my family history-which if he had looked, would see that both parents are deceased due to heart attacks and with these strange symptoms, I would have thought they would have taken extra steps to make sure everything was great. I want my 20 co-pay back. I have never in my life felt the need to complain but this was a joke. I felt like I was at the circus... read more

The WORST Urgent Care in the La Mesa area!! I strongly recommend going somewhere else. I have horrible back pain accompanied with spasms. Dr. Edward Juskelis was VERY INCONSIDERATE and showed ABSOLUTELY NO CONCERN for my lower back pain. I was in tears trying to explain my situation to Edward (he doesn't deserve to be called a doctor) and he DID NOT even do an evaluation on me. He attempted to send me home with the same prescription my primary doctor prescribes me. I told Edward this and he STILL portrayed no sense of care. I STRONGLY suggest going somewhere other than Sharp Rees-Stealy Urgent Care in La Mesa. You might get in quick and have very friendly assistants but if you get a guy like Edward Juskelis, your chief complaint WILL be ignored! The Sharp Experience is truly a regretful experience. Thank you Edward Juskelis for NOTHING! read more

Went to urgent care with hives that prgressivly got worst throughout day. I was in and out within 45 minutes. I highly recommend!!

This is for the office on the 6th floor. Went there for a pre-employment drug test. They don't make appointments so if time is important, don't go there. When I checked in I asked about how long it would take. They said about a half hour. Over an hour later, they finally called me back. The person who administered the test was very condescending. I felt like I was treated like someone who was on parole and requifred to take a mandatory drug test rather than someone who was there as a requirement to get a job. The only reason I went to this location was it close to home. read more

We've been in the urgent care twice in the last month. BOTH times we had a great experience. All of the staff from the receptionist to the nurses to the doctors were highly professional and extremely caring. They were able to do all of the lab work, x-rays, and even give an I.V. right there in the urgent care setting. I highly recommend this urgent care. read more

I had my first pre-natal visit last week at this Sharp location, and it went O.K. - nothing to write home about. The nurse practitioner seemed to be very rushed, didn't answer my questions with much depth, and when she was doing our ultra sound didn't really tell us what she was seeing (she sort of vaguely pointed at the baby, and said to come back in two weeks because there wasn't much to see at this point. She told us that they scheduled us too early - why would they schedule me too early??). She wasn't rude, she just wasn't helpful. The lab lady wasn't rude either, but wasn't particularly nice. They all seem a bit bored, unenthusiastic, and like they didnt want to be there. This is hard for a new mom-to-be who is very excited about her first pregnancy! I will go back and give it a second try, but if I have a similar experience I'll likely look elsewhere. read more

I moved to La Mesa, CA over two years ago and I have PCOS which is (poly cystic ovarian syndrome) basically means I get abnormal pap smears and have to take birth control. I chose Sharp because my insurance was accepted and it seemed easy enough. I first went to the Kearney Mesa location last year. Pretty easy, did the Pap and renewed my birth control prescription. A year later I decided to move to the La Mesa location because it was closer to my house. This time in my life I decided I should probably also see a primary care doctor AND the Gynocologist. I scheduled the primary care doctor which was not bad. Check blood, weight, basic stuff. Now this is where it gets frustrating. When I made the appointment the person on the phone noticed my ANNUAL PAP was due and she did a good job finding me a Gynocologist at the La Mesa area, etc, etc. after I finished with my primary care visit I confirmed with 3 different people I have my Gynocologist appointment a month later and they confirmed-especially since they know I have PCOS and important to check for cancer annually. Today was supposed to be my appointment until I get a call with a message saying please call back. This is of course after the text messages and confirmations. Took forever for someone to figure out why I was called. This was 3 hours before my appointment. Lady on the phone had to go find someone and figure out why I was called: here is the answer: "oh, you just did a Pap smear last year and it was fine so you don't need to come in today-pap smears are only recommended every 3-5 years"????? What???? With my condition and many abnormal Pap smears that should be in my file when I transferred I was shocked!!! I have had this condition for over 15 years and every other Pap smear came back abnormal and then I would have to go back for cancer screenings! I told the women on the phone that my insurance covers a pap smear/Gynocologist exam every year-especially these days I can't get my prescription renewed unless I see the doctor! The women on the phone was NOT a doctor, NOT a nurse and would not let me speak to the nurse that initially called me! I give up! I'm a single female with a great career with great insurance! Guess you don't want my money!!!! It should NOT BE THAT HARD IN THIS COUNTRY TO GET A BASIC WOMEN'S EXAM that is needed and to RENEW a SIMPLE BIRTH CONTROL PRESCRIPTION with insurance and an appointment! After doing some research with Planned Parenthood I am going to book my Pap smear there! I will be very proud to take my business to Planned Parenthood who seems like they care about women's health! I absolutely love Sharp. I have switched insurance a few times due to work and when I can get back to my PCP and my kids can get back to their provider, its a huge relief. Dr. Kaufka is wonderful with my kids and very informative. Dr. Lafferty was the best OB and took great care of me while I was pregnant both times. Dr. Mugol in El Cajon is a great doctor and really takes the time to review your file and go over everything with you. He cares, and that is important. I have never had a bad experience with Sharp and I am so happy that we are all back with Sharp. read more

THIRD AND FINAL UPDATE Contacted today and told that they verified that I did pay the collection agency and that everything is a big misunderstanding due to "Bills crossing in the mail". Am I satisfied? Not by a longshot. I will never go there even if it is life threatening. I will NEVER recommend them under any circumstance for ANYTHING. Here what I messaged them sans account numbers and phone number. Hi Rachael. Well thank you for answering me back. I actually was going to leave even another review. Why? Well I just received ANOTHER bill from PMS Progressive Management systems at 866-764-2296 account number 00243XXXXX client reference number 1009XXXXX. This one is real pleasant asking for $25.68 and an interest rate of 10.00%. Good thing they are giving me 30 days to pay this SAME CHARGE for the SECOND TIME. I am not kidding you when I say this entire event is nearly criminal. I hope I am just the one that slipped through the cracks because my wife is seriously ready to picket the front of the hospital. She is serious. She is not kidding. I am tempted to take vacation time and join her. That would cost me a couple of thousand dollars but at this point it is principle not money. I have never, ever been treated like this in my life. I would feel more comfortable if I was the victim of a strong arm robbery. I honestly don't really know what you can do for me at this point. I suppose I will just keep getting this same bill every week and keep paying it like some form of mafia protection payment where if you don't pay the $25.68 every week you will burn my house down and kill my dogs. Lupe from your customer service dept. left me a voice mail at approximately 4:45PM. I called back 15 minutes later because I was in a meeting and looks like she has left for the night. Not surprised. Anyways my number that I gave you at the hospital is the same one you could have always reached me at 24/7. 619 244-XXXX. We will see if you call me tomorrow or maybe I would be better off just making these regular blackmail payments and post this whole thing minus my account number as ANOTHER follow up on YELP. Arrrgghhh. Danny SXXXXXX. SECOND UPDATE Contacted you through Message. With a lengthy NEW update. Let's see if you call me at the same number I gave you at the hospital and the new message about a new collection agency bill received today 1 Sept 2016 asking for another $25 that I already paid them. Danny FIRST UPDATE While I do appreciate that you have attempted to right this wrong on Yelp. Let me tell you what happened. So on the NEXT DAY!!! I get the bill. It say I am late but to pay it and everything is good. WHAT!! You already sent me to collections!!!! So get this. I call and say the entire story and the lady on the line tells me that I had a statement sent prior. I ask her then why am I getting this after you already sent me to collections for $25!!! She tells me she doesn't see why I am calling since it has already been handled. I ask to talk to her supervisor and she tells me she just left but will have her call as soon as he gets back in. Well it is Aug 28 and NO CALL. I have NEVER been treated like this from a hospital before. My wife and daughter have had some serious health issues over the last 5 years that has cost me out of pocket nearly $60,000. Yeah that is 60K Cashed out my 401K to take care of bills in a timely manner to make sure THIS kind of thing doesn't happen. $25 dollars. $25 dad gum dollars. Arrrggghhhh. Danny S. I will call again on Monday. Lets see how far this goes. I will let you know I am the one who "Yelped" you. ORIGINAL REVIEW Billing is the WORST. Just had a collection agent call me for a $25 bill. Are you kidding me?!!!! I did NOT receive a bill for this. I have good insurance and have NO PROBLEM paying for services. Collection agent seems to have my number that they gave them. Someone home 24/7 to receive calls. They could have called or mailed me the bill but NOTHING. Myself and my family will never under ANY circumstances go to them. EVER. Warning if you are ever treated and have any kind of out of pocket or deductible of any kind they would prefer to send you to collections than to send you a bill or give you a call read more

I usually don't bother to write reviews for businesses I visit, but given the exceptionally positive nature of this experience, I would like to share some positive thoughts visiting this Sharp Medical Group Urgent Care Center. I came to urgent care because I had a particularly sore throat and low energy, and was concerned because of a looming day on the boat was ahead of me. I figured if I had any bacteria, I should nip it in the bud before it gets out of control. My Blue Shield Health Insurance referred me to this particular clinic, and to state off the bat, I was seen almost right away. What made this experience particularly memorable, is that the front receptionist, Peter, actually provided me with a little "care package" of lozenges and cough drops as soon as he found out I had a sore throat! I was like wow, "Thanks!" That never happened to me before! The doctor who checked out my throat was a pleasant, petite southpawed lady (just as myself! lefties rule!) and as soon as she found out that I had some science background, she started to explain to me in detail how certain symptoms were pointing in the direction to certain illnesses (but not a certainty), and how certain symptoms could rule out other forms of diseases. Most importantly, she left me with ease of mind and much less worry and anxiety than when I first entered the clinic. So, I'm not sure whether I visited a doctor or a shrink... or both! Because it turned out, I didn't have any bacteria... just some temporary nondescript virus. Oh well! C'est la vie! What further surprised me is that a few days later I received a little card in the mail (my home address), as nowadays NOBODY sends cards in the mail anymore (just bills and credit card applications and pay-your-loan offers)... and it turned out that it was a card from Peter the receptionist from Sharp wishing me well and hoping that I feel better! I'm like, wow, this is so old-fashioned it almost made me want to cry. So on that note, I suppose my anecdote here reflects that this Sharp Urgent Care Center reflects not only their practice in medical care, but they are also in the business of expressing their humanity, and I have absolutely no qualms about that. As a matter of fact, I'm grateful! read more

I went in on a Sunday evening at 7:45pm, just before they closed at 8:00. I was able to get right in and they took their time with me. They didn't rush me at all. Every person was kind from beginning to end--from the intake person, to the nurses to the doctors. They took a blood test and a strep test and figured out what was wrong with me. In the days following, they called me to make sure I was OK. The benefit to using this place is that it's within a 1-minute walk to Grossmont Hospital in case it's more than what they can do. I will use this urgent care again in the future! read more

My employer sent me in for a quick TB test. I called to schedule an appointment but they said they did not take appointments for that. I arrived and waited about 2 + hours after checking in and filling out paperwork. Other patients were coming and going while I waited. This seemed very unfair. The test took about 1 minute. I do not understand why they did not process me through sooner. Also, the technician or nurse who pricked me with a needle for the test had the most unsteady hands, which left quite a good bruise on my arm. I have had many TB tests but never have I received one that bruised me so badly. It seemed like the health care provider moved the needle around vigorously once it was under the skin. Someone please tell her that she does not need to do that! Other numerous TB tests I have had to take for work have been totally painless and left only a tiny mark but this staff member at Sharp really bruised me badly by moving the needle all around once under my skin. I would hate to see the results if she tried to draw blood from someone. Maybe she drank a lot of coffee that day and was feeling jittery that morning but really there is no excuse for that kind of poor administration of a sub cutaneous test. read more

I drove my friend to Sharp Rees-Steely Sorrento Mesa because her skin problem is becoming worse. An employee admitted us through a private entrance to avoid stares in the waiting room. The employee (Liaison Representative) was clearly annoyed. Lead us to her office and demanded $125 for a previous ER visit. My friend, in a wheel chair and in pain, was embarrassed because she didn't have money and didn't even owe it. The LR then demanded $40 for the doctor visit. I told her there was no co-pay, offered to go to the check-in desk.to settle it. The LR refused, stuck her hand out. Rather than argue, I pulled out my wallet and gave her forty bucks. She left, came back a few minutes later and returned the forty without apologizing. Don't know what her problem was. Maybe she was making a box of donuts disappear while watching The Wendy Williams Show and didn't like being interrupted.. Anyway, the doctor was very nice and polite but I still don't recommend Sharp Rees-Steely. I've seen too many of their "donut-butt" administrators save money by not letting their few good doctors follow standard medical procedures and by behaving like rodeo clowns and zoo creatures. I'm glad I get my healthcare at the VA hospital in La Jolla, they are much better than Sharp Rees-Steely. read more

So difficult to get an appointment here or within the SHARP network. Their phone system says you can sometimes even be seem the same day which is sometimes never. My doctor put in orders for me to be seen within the same week but it's been 3 weeks. I keep getting connected to other offices only to be told I can't be seen till a month later or that I can't be seen at all because I need a referral. I have PPO. But that doesn't matter because they have an internal policy that still requires a referral. It's so frustrating. I even went to urgent care only to not be treated but told to get a follow up appt with my doctor and MSK. So I paid $20 and wasted an hour for them to tell me that. Unfortunately my pain cannot wait. Crazy enough, when I called Scripps, they were able to accommodate me the same day. Wow. I used to love Sharp but now I think it's time to move on. Went in to Sharp Grossmont Urgent Care with flu like symptoms. Doctor diagnosed me with a stomach virus???? Strange since I had no stomach issues which I mentioned to him. Sent me on my way saying it would go away on its own. Back 2 days later even worse and now had a progressing rash on my body, high fever, lethargic and swelling in my feet. Dr. Diedrich didn't even hardly take any time with me and, I guess since I was just there 2 days prior, didn't take any vitals. She told me the rash was a reaction to something I took and to just take some Benadryl. She also insisted I was not contagious! I am a transitioned female (surgery 1 1/2 years ago, and had a referral from my endocrinologist to go see Dr. Harrari (the gynecologist I was referred to). I was pre-screened over the phone by his nurse, and everything was discussed with her, including the fact that I am a transitioned female. I went to my appointment, undressed from the waist-down as instructed by the nurse (the same nurse that I had the phone call with), and waited for the doctor. Instead of Dr. Harrari, the nurse returned, who informed me, that "Dr. Harrari isn't comfortable seeing you". I was in shock, and as I sit there naked from the waist-down, I wanted to crawl into a little crack in the floor and disappear. Evidently, Dr. Harrari isn't familiar with all types of vaginas (only those established at birth), but he didn't bother to think of the patient sitting naked waiting to be seen, and come in to explain whatever his "reasoning" was, he sent a minimally educated nurse in instead to "cover-up" his error. Unconscionable Dr. Harrari...shame on you! I hope all women heed this review, and take their vaginas and feelings elsewhere. read more
