While tradition HIV testing like the Rapid Test detects HIV by detecting antibodies, the Early Test detects infection by detecting the virus. One can get both tests performed and both are FREE. Results of the standard Rapid Test will be given within 15 minutes while the Early Test results will take two weeks. The doctor will provide a personalized ID number along with a date to check for the results online (https://theearlytest.ucsd.edu/The_Early_Test/Results_of_The_Early_Test_HIV_Antibody_%26_HIV_Viral_Load_Testing_in_San_Diego,_California.html ) or by phone. For HIV testing at this site, I find it best to make an appointment. When they say they're trying to banish the sigma of HIV testing, they mean it. It's an intensely relax atmosphere. The decor is modern and definitely sets the mood they're going for. There's one computer station to surf the internet while waiting. I got in right away with my appointment and the whole thing took 30 minutes. After explaining the consent forms and procedure, they pricked my finger for the rapid test. The results are faster than the mouth swap by 10-20 minutes. During the 10-15 minutes waiting time for the results, the worker asked me further questions about my sexual practices and explained things if I needed it. It wasn't my first time at the rodeo, so I didn't really need much explanation. Then, I got my rapid results and was taken into a room to get my blood drawn for the Early Test. Done and done. PS Note that there are limits to every test and know what the results are telling you. While the Early Test detects recent infection well, the Rapid Test detects a wider time frame. It's important to pick the appropriate test for your possible exposure time frame. I like to do both for the overlap.

Unfortunately, the donor got into some trouble and is now being held in a county detention center. Fortunately, the county was still willing to work with my friend and the detainee to complete the transplant. We were in dire need to find a mobile phlebotomist that could quickly go into a detention center during a tight time window to complete required testing. I also needed a lab that the county and the hospital would approve. I called quite a few phlebotomists and mobile labs but was having no luck getting someone to meet my requirements. Fortunately, a nurse friend referred me to Mobile Xpress Clinics. What a God send. Jill, the Operations Manger, listened to my requirements of needing someone to go do the testing as soon as possible. She answered every call (which were quite a few) and had all the answers I needed to get this scheduled. She also followed up with the hospital and the county to verify she had all the information that was needed to ensure everything went flawlessly. Jill also had the blood and urine draws transported directly to the transplant center's lab saving us the need to hire another currier service. I can't even put into words how caring and accommodating she was. Jill and her team (thank you too Windy) were willing to work around any schedule that the county and the hospital required. Mobile Xpress' prices were very reasonable as well. It is not everyday I need a service like this but if I do, I will always have their number in my phone. I could not have had a better experience. I wish more companies were this diligent, caring, and professional.

The phone rings over to voice mail each time. No one has the courtesy to respond. My health issues are important to me but they don't seem to care at this point. I don't get it. Why make a promise that you have not intention on fulfilling? If you don't want to provide service, just say that and I'll drive to your location and ask my question there where you can't ignore me. But stop wasting my time on unreturned calls. As for taking blood and getting results, they do this very well. I often have tests results the very next morning, though getting them is a bit peculiar depending on who ordered the tests. I've had good experiences there but their phone service is complete absent.

Luckily, a friend recommended this wonderful nurse practitioner, who can perform nearly any health-maintenance service one might need, with the imprimature of a doctor as backup. Exams are less stressful, rates are reasonable; she listens well, and takes good notes. Office visits are empathic, fact-finding conversations. How wonderful to be actually taken seriously! How refreshing to not be repeatedly tested for diseases we can't possible have, just because that's the clinic's (or hospital's) standard ($$) procedure. If you've ever had to call and call and call ... and call ... to get your lab results - you need to consider switching health-care providers! And you won't give up quality of care at this small clinic, either. UCSD had misdiagnosed my wife for years; they kept treating her for the wrong condition. They ignored all evidence she presented them that was contrary to their diagnosis. When her test results kept getting worse, not better, UCSD's only answer was ... to increase the dosage! When she told them she was going to stop taking the expensive medicine, since it wasn't helping, they made a note in her medical record, labeling her a "difficult patient" to deal with (in other words, a hysterical, unreasonable person)--virtually guaranteeing that other doctors wouldn't take her seriously, either. Yet on her first visit to Progressive, she was tested for things that UCSD never even considered testing for--and bingo! A new diagnosis, new medicine, and changes in diet have made my wife feel like a whole new woman.
