She is very honest...first time I met her and she noticed I sometimes permed my hair, she just said, "Why?" She has seen me through weaves, short, long, curly, wavy, and always knows what is right for me - especially in all those years with a convertible! She also gives the most divine head rubs before a cut. I decided to embrace my natural color several years ago and she has supported a classy longish look to grow older along with me. Many years ago, at a convention, Jose' Ebar, Palm Desert, cut and styled my hair and although it was done well ($400 in the 90's), the other attendees and I left his studio with a similar cut, style and color. Not so with Sandy! I recently had lunch with 4 friends whose hair each looked striking and which enhanced our own characteristics. It's truly a gift and Sandy has it. Another, less mentioned but not less important quality is that she is trustworthy and encouraging, remembering details and asking about other aspects of your life, then often offering ideas that improve the quality of it. Sandy is a gem and although challenging to get in with initially, once she gets to know you, she pre books for future appts, as many as 3 ahead to keep you on a schedule. The location, between Maple and Ash on Gardner, makes it a snap to get downtown or back up to the South Hill. I have gone to her for 5 yrs. and knowing her has definitely increased the quality of my life. She is worth the wait to get an appointment. Surprisingly for someone of her ability, she is also reasonably priced. If you call and don't get in right away, keep calling, it's worth the effort and wait.

She inquired about what my hair looked like and what I wanted her to do. For this specific appointment I was looking to get my hair trimmed a little bit and for a hair color. I have thick coarse hair and I usually like to wear it short, very much like a pixie cut. This hair style can be tricky, often resulting is poor blending, uneven length, and a blocky look. When I went to intuition, Kayla was very friendly and asked a lot of questions about my hair, which was great. The coloring process was easy and painless as She did an all over coloring (purple highlight on black hair). She also knew exactly how to cut my hair, given its disobedient personality, and took her time. My experience was overall laid back and fun. The price was appropriate for the quality haircut that I received. This is definitely a place to go if you are wanting to diverge away from the corporate salons and have a desire to seek out your new long term stylist.

She did a HORRIBLE job, and didn't style out my hair, so i didn't know it until I got home and really got a good look at it. I asked for a ash blonde balayage and paid $300 by the time I tipped, and my hair looks like complete trash. Myra offered to fix it and I initially rescheduled with her, but after thinking about it, I texted her and asked her to be $100 percent honest if she thought she could fix it and she never responded. I ended up scheduling for a color correction at a different salon because I can't trust this girl. I left a message on the Salon retro site to Kathy (I believe she's the owner) and got no response, so I called the Salon and Kathy answered. She said "Myra said you loved your hair when she was done" and I told Kathy, Myra didn't style it out. In fact, after thinking about it, I think she did that on purpose because she knew it was a sloppy job and she was ripping me off, but she told me the reason she wasn't styling it out was because she already did a lot to my hair and didn't want to overdo it. I should have known right then and there she was full of s#$t, because I have never been to a Salon and paid that kind of money and left without dry, styled hair. If you took the time to read all this, please take my advice and don't risk going to this place. What a waste of time and money. In response to Kathy's comment: ummm... yeah... I said all that in my review, but I also said I opted not to go back to her because I don't feel confident she would be able to fix it. Not worth the risk. Also, why you commenting on my review? You can't help me because she's not your employee. Don't be on my review bumping your gums. I deserve a partial refund but I know that isn't going to happen, so mind your own business.
