If I could leave zero or even negative stars I would. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Be careful who you book with. I booked with Myra and apparently she is an independent contractor, meaning the salon can't help if she does a bad job.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] She did a HORRIBLE job, and didn't style out my hair, so i didn't know it until I got home and really got a good look at it. I asked for a ash blonde balayage and paid $300 by the time I tipped, and my hair looks like complete trash. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Myra offered to fix it and I initially rescheduled with her, but after thinking about it, I texted her and asked her to be $100 percent honest if she thought she could fix it and she never responded.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up scheduling for a color correction at a different salon because I can't trust this girl. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I left a message on the Salon retro site to Kathy (I believe she's the owner) and got no response, so I called the Salon and Kathy answered.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She said "Myra said you loved your hair when she was done" and I told Kathy, Myra didn't style it out.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In fact, after thinking about it, I think she did that on purpose because she knew it was a sloppy job and she was ripping me off, but she told me the reason she wasn't styling it out was because she already did a lot to my hair and didn't want to overdo it. I should have known right then and there she was full of s#$t, because I have never been to a Salon and paid that kind of money and left without dry, styled hair. If you took the time to read all this, please take my advice and don't risk going to this place. What a waste of time and money. In response to Kathy's comment: ummm... yeah... I said all that in my review, but I also said I opted not to go back to her because I don't feel confident she would be able to fix it. Not worth the risk. Also, why you commenting on my review? You can't help me because she's not your employee. Don't be on my review bumping your gums. I deserve a partial refund but I know that isn't going to happen, so mind your own business. read more

The inspo vs when I got home from the salon... They did say it would be a bit darker, and I don't think it's awful, but yeah. I don't see much resemblance to what it's supposed to be... I spent 4 months growing out my hair for a mop cut and they cut most of it off. Completely failed to follow the photo I showed.

My daughter got her nails done and I got my hair done. We both had great experiences here! They're super good about communication - we called and they answered promptly, got us appts at the perfect time, sent us reminders to confirm, and it was easy to find. It's actually right next to one of our fav treat shops. The place was clean and spacious and had the specific products we wanted. The technicians were easy to chat with and really efficient. Karina is so talented! I moved to Spokane Valley from Phoenix, where I went to a hipster salon in the city that was way too expensive. Did not think I would get one of the best cuts and colors of my life here at a really unassuming but awesome salon. I feel like Karina is an artist and truly takes her craft seriously. The face framing she did for me was probably the most honed in to my face shape and how I part my hair, like she was laser focused. Hands down best! I had an appointment scheduled today, and waited nearly 30 minutes. I had another appointment set 2 hours later. I was told my service would only take up to 1.5 hours, but after waiting 30 minutes, I knew I would be cutting it close, so I opted to cancel. The person I had the appointment with did not come out to the lobby to greet me, nor apologize for the delay! It wasn't so much about the delay in getting to me (I completely understand about running behind) as much as it was this being my first time at this establishment, and the respectful appropriate thing to do would be for Jaimie, the stylist I scheduled with, come out personally to greet me quickly and introduce herself, offer me something to drink and reading material or hair magazines to thumb through while I wait (the coffee tables were a mess with no magazines, just papers), and let me know estimate time she will be delayed so I could decipher whether to step out for a coffee or reschedule. My time is valuable, particularly when I take time off work to do something special for myself. If it was not for her apprentice/assistant apologizing for the stylist, and chatting it up with me, I would have given a 1 star. There are many salons in town, but this one was highly recommended, and I will have to go back to the person (a local stylist who could not take me since she was so booked), and advise she not recommend this place, anymore :-( read more

I could not have asked for a better first time experience at Salon Retro and would give it 10 Stars if I could! Cyra was so attentive and delivered the exact transformation I was looking for. I love how she checked in with me during the process to ensure that she was achieving the color and cut results that I was striving for. I went from long, damaged, greying hair to an updated 'do, full bangs, and balayage highlights that look so natural and add dimension to my hair. I think it took 10 years off of me and made me feel like a new person - just what this postpartum (well, ahem 3 years later) mama needed. I was aiming for Zooey Deschanel and that's what I got. Beyond my experience with Cyra, who I highly recommend, I loved the atmosphere in the salon. Several of the other stylists stopped by and connected with me as well. Such a women positive vibe, which leads me to my last observation. The owner, Kathy, whom I have never personally met, leads with humility and grace. I was an outsider watching how she supports her staff and was very impressed. Not to mention, she did a few SUPER cute short cuts during my time in the chair a few stalls down. I had a true hair emergency. Jordan was so kind and amazing to take me the morning I called. I had a truly horrible accident with my long hair matted beyond my being able to untangle it. But Jordan was willing to take this challenging process on to save what she could of my hair and not give up and chop it off. It took two days of Jordan working, even with bruised fingers from the hours of combing. And her patience in trying to help me was astonishing! She saved as much as she could. My long hair is now cut in a bob, but she did everything she could and my hair came out looking amazingly good. I am so very appreciative of everything she did. She went above and beyond. I am thoroughly disappointed with my first and only experience with this salon!! I absolutely do not recommend this salon if you want color removal or color stripping. I specifically asked for a specialist that does color removal and was scheduled with a stylist fresh out of beauty school! Told her I wanted color removal to get back to my natural gray hair color. Basically, she bleached my hair and did two different applications of toner. Even though I asked if she was using bleach she said no it was color remover. My hair turned out to be ash blonde, more blonde than gray. During the process she was consulting with the owner who was guiding her and both thought my hair turned out beautifully. I was also told I could come back to have more toner put on, but I will not have them do anything else to my hair ever! read more

This was my second time coming here and I had Jamie, she was very nice, easy to talk to and super chill down to earth person. She did an amazing job with my hair and I know I'll be coming back again. I drove from the south hill to the salon for a root touchup and haircut with Kathy, and I must say it was the best experience and outcome that I could've asked for. I have had my hair colored in more cities than I can recall as I need to have my roots touched up every two weeks. Kathy did an incredible job of color matching and then offered additional alternatives to get the roots touched up either by an apprentice or a modified root touch both to save time and money. The haircut is perfect with the kind of movement i wanted. Kathy is a pro and i will be returning! No more at home color for me!! read more

If you have curly, frizzy hair I highly recommend that you book an appointment with Jaimie Gimlin at Salon Retro! She is very knowledgeable regarding curly hair issues. And she also sells a hair product that eliminates the frizz!! I've struggled with frizz for years, buying lots of products that claimed to help, with no success. So I wasn't very hopeful when Jaimie applied her new hair product. But it worked! No more frizz!! Also, Jaimie is delightful to visit with as she works her magic. I wouldn't recommend this salon because of an unprofessional experience that occurred. When I showed up to my appointment, I was informed that my stylist, Mackenzie, had the flu. Neither Mackenzie nor the salon made an effort to inform me about the cancellation, other than vague & cryptic text message in the morning. What if didn't get text messages? And why wouldn't the stylist introduce herself or call me since I never responded to her, to ensure I got the message? I tried talking to the manager, Kathy, and she apologized in a very condescending tone when I politely explained that it's unprofessional to not reach out to the client beforehand. She offered for an Appt slot on another day and the stylist offered me a discount for a future visit but this appointment was for a destination wedding and I'd have no time to come back. read more

Lindsey is awesome, she did my Deva Cut and I had one of the best experiences that I've had. No one I've gone to prior knew how to work with my wavy hair, which is almost curly and is also fine. I've been getting my hair cut here for years! John Cooper is the greatest! His color is always perfect and I always love my hair. I live in Phoenix, but I will actually wait until my trip to Spokane so I can have him cut my hair. The salon is great, everyone is always very friendly. Sarah did a great job with my eyebrows. I just moved to Spokane and it's nerve racking to get new go to places. The wax they use is different (she applied it to all the areas, let them all dry and peeled them off directly). That was different! My only complaint was that cover up and an eye brow filling wasn't offered. I had to ask which she did happily. read more

Many years had I gone to Salon ReTro. Never again. The owner of the company tells you she will consult with you about a terrible experience with one of her stylists and doesn't show when she says she will - there's a problem. Here's what happened to me (1) She - the stylist - was 20 minutes late to take me back. (2) She cut off 5" of hair on the back and 1/2" in front when I asked her to cut off three finger widths everywhere, evenly, AND it's so chopped up uneven she should get the preschool scissor award. (3) When I stood up, the last client's red hair was sticking to my back. (4) The product she used afterward was so strong I had a migraine - and was still strong after 4 washings and two baking soda washings, even after soaking in the shower for another half hour - it still wouldn't go away until two days later. (5) The owner avoided me. (6) Her attitude came across belligerent. (7) The guy who I've had cut my hair for almost 20 years - who wasn't there the day I had this experience - was even flipping me attitude. (8) No apologies from anyone - attitudes were unapologetic. (9) The guy who I've known for so long recut it and evened it up and said it was "all taken care of". Not even close! You don't just "take care of" taking 3" too much hair off when it took almost a year to get to that point! Time to continue the search for someone who listens and does what you ask for. read more
