They have plenty of toys and screens to keep kids entertained, which really helped keep him calm and happy throughout the appointment. I usually ask for Kelly as she is very patient and sweet with my little guy so tends to be fidgety during cuts but Kelly always makes sure his haircut is even and he walks out looking sharp. Son got his first hair cut here, it was a pleasant experience and we enjoyed the package deal. 2nd time my son had Kelly T as the hair dresser and it seemed like she was displeased as we were about 3-5 min late to our appointment. She didn't speak a word just asked us what style we wanted and then she went to work and done. It was like no-nonsense type of haircut. 3rd time I brought my eldest and she got a hair cut that was not short enough so we had to ask them to cut it even further. Kelly T had to step in to make the final cuts to the desired length. Again, no nonsense - just cut and then done. My little boy got his first haircut by Xareni today. She was very sweet, made him feel comfortable, and made his first haircut a fun experience. I was surprised how calm and entertained he was during his cut. It helps that they have cool chairs and can play a show of their choice. My son has been coming here for years and has autism and a LOT of sensory issues. Haircuts are HARD for him and I believe they should have that noted somewhere. We arrived and he whispered to me he didn't want the cape (sensory). Kelly said "You don't have to whisper" and I said he doesn't want the cape. She said well hair is going to get all over you, instead of offering an alternative like a towel. She was visibly annoyed he wanted the xbox even though we signed up for that. He isn't familiar with xbox and she was very annoyed having to help him navigate to get to the game. She started brushing his hair hard and he was moving his head and saying it hurt so she said he needs a wash. He HATES having his hair washed and has never done it there. She was very abrupt and not tolerant, kept telling him to "just relax". He winced through the wash and she aggressively dried his hair, while he said it hurt and trying to move his head. Then we went back to the chair and she was visibly annoyed when he moved his head due to sensory challenges. When he was quietly upset about the falling hair on his arm, she said "that's what the cape is for". She even rudely told me to move out of the way as I was trying to keep him calm. We paid $35 to go to a kids place and have had good experiences there before with other stylists. We have been to supercuts as well and had a better experience than yesterday. I'm so disappointed and should've walked out in the beginning but I really didn't know what to do. If you don't like kids and can't be patient, maybe working at a kids salon isn't the best place. Parents of kids with curly hair and salon owners please read on... I am disappointed to write this review after 1) calling the salon multiple times asking for help after a bad haircut at this salon in an effort to make this right, and 2) because I genuinely love the idea of a fun kids salon and had a good experience with a former haircut with a different stylist at the same salon. I was very explicit about what I wanted: keep his hair long, long enough for the ringlets to still show up. Our stylist said no problem, and a couple minutes later had completed the cut (which I was also confused by, since his first haircut was closer to 25 minutes long). She cut off way too much, so much that the curls were gone. To make matters worse, it was very uneven (see pictures of sideburns and neckline). I hoped it was just because she didn't know how to style the curls and that it would come back, but they didn't, and once it air dried I could tell how uneven it was. I called the salon a few days later and explained the situation. The woman at the front desk asked for my phone number, name, and appointment information and told me a manager would call me back. She then proceeded to lecture me about how people call all the time pretending to have gotten a bad haircut from this salon to demand a refund. This made me very uncomfortable, especially since was insinuating that this is what I was doing after she already verified my appointment information. I waited a week, but never heard back, so I called again and got the same feedback that someone would call me to follow up, but they never did. At this point, I had to book my son a cut with a new salon and pay for another haircut to fix the unevenness they caused. And I have to wait patiently for his curls to grow out as there is nothing that can be done to fix cutting too much hair. To the managers of this salon: If a stylist is not comfortable with the style you request or a particular hair texture, then the right thing to do is be upfront. I would have been fine waiting for a different stylist, or rescheduling. It's also not appropriate for a staff member to scold a customer for the bad behavior of other parents. It's bad customer service to tell a customer you will follow up if you never do. Alas I have to resort to Yelp to provide this feedback, since there is no way to get in contact with the salon beyond calling, which I have repeatedly tried without success. We will not be returning and encourage other parents whose children have curly hair to consider a different salon. Please see detailed before and after photos. read more

If I could I'd give them 0 stars. The communication was absolutely horrendous, I walk in with 3 year old twins and with my boy with long hair 12 minutes after our 10:30 am appointment late of course but with twins it's kinda hard getting anywhere on time and instead of trying to be accommodating they look at us like we were stupid for showing up late. The one lady that looked like was supposed to cut our hair just said "hair so long" and just looks as us like that means something. She then says you're supposed to be here at 10:30 After a minute of staring at each other I finally responded... "so does that mean you can't cut his hair? and she just repeats. "Appointment at 10:30" At this point I grab the kids and say I can go somewhere else. While everyone else is looking. There was no, hey we can't help now or we are kinda tied up come back later; no! The vibe was mids at best in there, it didn't feel welcoming or like they even cared about your kids first hair cut at all. They like scheduling kids and their appointments every 15 minutes and just pushing them out or skipping if they're not there waiting before hand! I'd skip this spot and hit up First Cut in CDM for your kids first cut. Even on the phone they seemed way more professional already. read more

The ladies are always nice and sweet but wow they cannot cut hair. I always show them what I want and I never get what I show them. I ask for a 1 for my son because his hair grows fast and they seem like they do a 2... maybe it's part of their ploy so I'll be back in 3 weeks which is how fast my sons hair grows. His hair is always still long when we leave and the style at top, they always seem to like to make him look like Lloyd from dumb and dumber. Or maybe that's the only hairstyle they know. We've seen several "stylists" and they all turn out the same. The fun cars the kids can sit in, the tv to help distract, the lollipop and balloon at the end are so fun! But honestly for $40, I'll have to go somewhere else where we can get a decent cut. read more

We love this Sharkey's! Thu Thu is amazing. She's spot on when it comes to styling our daughter's hair and making sure it's just the right length. Very patient and kind, she takes pride in her work. Kelly helped us recently with our son, who's not great with strangers. She was awesome with him and got him distracted enough to get through the haircut. My son had his first "in person" haircut here and he seemingly did well and had a good experience seeing as he didn't know what to expect. The staff was very friendly and endearing. The cars to sit in were super fun because my son was able to turn the steering wheel in the car and he really loves anything he can pretend drive or turn the wheel. I booked two hair stylists for my kids based on the recommendations of other reviewers here on Yelp and on their website: Kelly for my son and Xareni for my daughter. My son had always been terrified of getting at-home haircut. Although my mother-in-law was a hairstylist herself, my son would not let her touch his hair for a proper haircut. I read so many positive reviews about Kelly and finally got to see her in action. Kelly was very patient with my son who was held by my mom and crying. Both my mom and Kelly took turn to comfort him and made the whole experience positive for him at the end. He was no longer scared or crying during the final touch up. Xareni also did an amazing job with my daughter's hair, and the communication with my daughter was just lovely. My daughter package came with shampoo (upon request), haircut, small braid, a bow, a mini manicure (nail polish), and a cute ring. My son was very jealous of this fabulous pampering experience, but they both can pick a balloon and sticker so he felt much better. I have never been to any other kids haircut place, so I cannot comment on the pricing comparison. However, I can tell you that it's worth every penny! read more

Initially from my first review 3 years ago, I wanted to update. Still an amazing place. I've now had my second son and also bring him to this location. I've stuck with Thu Thu and she's amazing! She's an amazing stylist but also cares on how your child reacts in the situation. She's the epitome of why we chose to go to a salon that specializes in children. Children move, get scared, throw tantrums and Thu Thu knows how to handle every situation and make my children feel comfortable. She's also speedy!
