This review is for their head spa and basic haircut…read more I live very close to this salon and have gone a few times. Their hair cuts are always decent so I've gone back. Today I decided to try the head spa which they advertise in the front for $39 and also get my usual cut (straight, no layers, nothing fancy). It's a Monday around 1:30pm and it was empty so they took me in right away with no appointment. They said to do the spa first so I followed them to the basement which was a little sketch but I looked past it. There was a room with curtains and a bed with a sink which is where the service took place. This is definitely no frills and can use a good scrub down and some cleaner sheets and towels. However, the lady who performed the service knew what she was doing and did a great job. She washed and conditioned my hair, gave scalp, neck, shoulder, arms, legs massages. I really enjoyed the experience but the lack of cleanliness took off a star. Next was the haircut. I already got the head spa so my hair was already clean, it was literally just a basic cut and dry of my slightly below the shoulder length hair. I didn't get the lady's name but I think she's the owner. She was very detailed with the cut and took her time. The biggest turn off was at check out. When I asked how much the total was, another lady (3rd one I'm encountering) paused a bit and said $90. I was thinking in my head $51 for my very basic haircut with no wash seemed like a lot but I didn't argue. However, I only had enough cash to tip the stylist but I also wanted to tip the spa service so I asked to tip on my card. The lady pulled out a calculator and added tax on top of my tip. That's when I couldn't take it anymore and argued back that this is not right. I argued with her for a good minute before the manager stepped in and said just let it go. This is a bummer because I was planning to return for future haircuts but this experience turned me off and given that my hair is so simple to cut, I'll be going elsewhere.

At $16 for men's cut & wash, it is a little bit more expensive than most Chinese barbershops, but they're very attentive to detail. He spent quite a bit of time getting a smooth cut all around without rough edges. Finally my hair was rinsed and blow-dried.

You can…read moretext the number on their website if you have any questions, and they're super helpful and quick to respond! The color ended up turning out super similar to the picture I showed. Moses also warned me that red can fall out pretty quickly and would need to be touched up every few month - I already knew this from previous experience, but definitely great that he gave a heads up for people who might not know! Throughout the process, Moses explained how he was cutting my hair and took into account how I wanted a low maintenance haircut as well. Overall experience was also relatively quick - under 3 hours for cut and dye (although a part of my hair was already lightened from a previous dye so could take longer with fully virgin black hair). It was $220 total before tip ($160 for dye and $60 for cut - initial quoted price on their website starts from $120 for dye and $70 for cut), which is a pretty good price for a full dye and cut in NYC especially considering the length of my hair. Moses can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, and English! Definitely recommend coming here for all your haircut and dye needs :)

I've had many unsatisfactory haircuts in my life, but this one has to be the worst. Rather than…read morebeing upset, I'm disappointed in the quality of the service by a "professional". First, I had planned to donate my hair, but it was my first time doing it so I wasn't sure how it worked and requested a quote on yelp. According to Yelp, they usually respond around 24-48 hours later I believe, but I never got a response so that should've been my first clue. I could've called but if they're going to offer online quotes, they should deliver. Second, I informed the hairdresser I was planning to donate my hair when I arrived and I told him I wanted a shoulder length bob. He moved the rubber band lower and cut above it, which I thought was my shoulders like I requested. It wasn't until after they washed my hair did I realize the length of my hair was now above my chest. I know hairdressers need to leave excess hair as a baseline before a cut, but he left too much and that could've been donated too. Especially since all he did was make more blunt cuts and thinned out the edges slightly. He could've skipped the additional blunt cuts by just cutting off how much I requested and then thinned out my hair. Third, my hair looked fine when he cut and styled it, but after I washed it myself 2 days later, I realized the hair on my left side was longer than my right. Unless I tucked the hair on my left side behind my ear and wore a dark colored top, it's very noticeable. The ends aren't even either on my left side, there are some short and long strands. It looks like I tried to cut my own hair at home with Edna Mode as my reference. I considered going back to have them fix it but I didn't want to risk having them cut off even more so I'm just going to let it grow some more and get it cut again later. Or maybe I can salvage it myself once my it grows a bit longer. The only reason I didn't give this place 1 star was because the young woman who washed my hair was great. She was very gentle and meticulous.
