My gynecologist recommended that I work with a reproductive endocrinologist, and after doing some research, my husband and I chose VCRM and Dr. Fady Sharara. After the consultation with him and interacting with the staff, my husband and I trusted him to help us on our fertility journey. Dr. Sharara is very knowledgeable and an expert in the field, which made me feel comfortable and confident in putting our trust in him. I appreciated that he did a very thorough and comprehensive diagnostic work up to figure out the best treatment plan. Dr. Sharara and his staff at VCRM were truly the breath of fresh air my husband and I needed in our 5-year plus fertility journey. It is hard to put into words what they mean to us and of course, what they have now given us. My only regret is not seeing him sooner! Currently we are 20 weeks pregnant with our first, after 5 years of failed implantation issues and 7 failed transfers. He came to me as a referral from a trusted friend after I struggled for more that 5 years with conceiving through IVF. I started at other larger fertility facilities where I realized quickly, I was just a number. The level of personal care was just not there. Dr. Sharara's office is the opposite from that experience. He is very meticulous, specific, and intentional with everything he does. Dr. Sharara and his staff made what could have been a very unpleasant process one of the most comfortable medical experiences I've had as a patient. I came to VCRM with severe endometriosis and trying to get pregnant, a combination that doesn't often go well together. I had a consultation with a different, quite popular fertility clinic before I saw Dr. Sharara, and they left out at least two of the diagnostic tests that Dr. Sharara ran which gave us immense insight into why I wasn't getting pregnant on my own. Dr. Sharara was incredibly knowledgable and tailored my treatment to exactly what I needed based on my personal medical history, age, and test results. He performed every test, ultrasound, and procedure himself, and I saw the same two nurses for every appointment. I'll never forget the first time my husband and I met with Dr. Sharara. Upon our arrival, he already knew everything there was to know about my journey. He truly did his homework! My previous clinic had sent over my medical records and he found so many "errors" before examining me. I'll never forget him asking if I was aware that I had a uterine septum. My previous clinic noted in my chart that I had one, but failed to mention that to me. Dr. Sharara immediately noticed it when looking at my ultrasounds. I knew then, I was in the right place. It was Dr. Sharara that made me realize that I needed to "do better by myself". Meaning, I needed to treat my body and health much better than what I was. I struggled with weight when my husband and I first started this infertility journey. I took all of my stress of trying to get pregnant, to eating unhealthy foods. By following his diet plan, I was able to lose 75 pounds over the course of one year. Weight was not my only issue, but it was certainly an important one. If it wasn't for Dr. Sharara, I would still to this day, not be taking care of myself. My previous clinic never mentioned my diet or health. I was deemed completely healthy and normal. Because I was young and naive, I trusted what these doctors said and that was a mistake on my part. Luckily, we found VCRM! Dr. Sharara set me straight and told me up front on day one consultation, that I had to do better if I wanted this to work! I may have left in tears that day, but it was exactly what I needed to hear and he sure was right! When I meet people who are also undergoing fertility treatment, I always ask what tests they ran or what type of blood work they had done. Through my experience at other clinics, they did very minimal testing and were eager to start IVF right away. Dr. Sharara is the opposite! If he can prevent you from doing IVf, he will. He is not in this to make money like other "infertility factories". His main goal is to figure out why you can't get pregnant and fix that problem so you can have a family. If then you are unable to conceive, he will recommend fertility treatments tailored to your needs. He understands that it's not a set protocol for everyone. He creates a plan based solely on your needs and issues. If he can get you pregnant with out fertility treatments like IVF, he will exhaust all those options first. He gets down to the root cause of your issues, unlike other clinics who just want to make a dollar. After just a couple appointments with VCRM, I was diagnosed with PCOS, endometriosis, uterine septum, and a blood clotting disorder. My previous clinics failed to test for these things and we waisted a lot of money there. By improving my health and correcting my issues, my husband and I were able to get pregnant on our own. Unfortunately, we did lose the baby very early on. The silver lining during this tragic time was that we were originally told we would never be able to conceive on our own. Just by changing my lifestyle and diet, that was deemed false. My husband and I did continue on to IVF, due to some male factor issues. To all the mothers out there like me who may have started off with a bit of skepticism after having a miscarriage due to uterine fibroids, let me say, Dr. Fady Ihsan Sharara is the best doctor to help make your dreams come through. I know this to be true because Dr. Sharara and his well-trained nursing staff (i.e., Jessica, Jo, and Jill) offered the support I needed to help me handle some of the challenges that's associated with IVF treatment. For instance, I have had a phobia of needles since I was a child, but once I alerted Dr. Sharara's medical team about my fear of needles, they implemented a hand-held personalized care treatment plan to help me effectively administer injectable medication. Thank you so much to Dr Sharara and his team at VCRM! Before selecting a fertility clinic, I did a lot of research and sought out Dr. Sharara based on his excellent reviews. I knew we made the right choice after our consultation. I was expecting a wait time of a few months for an initial appointment but much to my surprise, Dr Sharara was able to see me within a week or two of my initial call. Dr. Sharara greeted my husband and myself in the waiting room with a hug. He prescribes a very thorough diagnostic testing and thanks to his diagnostics we were able to pinpoint the cause of our infertility. In regards to his diagnostic process, most fertility clinics just use a standard semen analysis. Dr Sharara uses a new piece of technology called the CAPSCORE. With this information, we were able to make an informed decision about starting IVF since we understood the cause of our infertility. I truly believe because of this test and his expertise, Dr. Sharara saved us months of failed IUIs, heartbreak and stress. During his consultation he also discussed nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle changes. With his advice we were able to get as healthy as possible before undergoing IVF. I believe that his well-rounded and holistic approach contributed to our success. After a relatively straightforward egg retrieval, we ran into a few bumps on the road on the way to a transfer. Dr. Sharara had a solution for every problem and provided many suggestions to increase our chances of success (ERA and PRP). He was always there to encourage me when I felt overwhelmed and anxious. I always felt hopeful because I knew that I was in good hands. All of the staff are lovely, welcoming, and friendly and make you feel truly cared for. After "getting" our son on our first implantation attempt, we were sad and disappointed when the next implantation didn't take. But we weren't discouraged, and we trusted the practice at UPMC Magee. We wanted another child badly enough to look past the impersonal, transactional interactions with the giant provider. But when the tally ran to two failed implantations and a miscarriage, we were left without any blinders or bias and started looking elsewhere. Research and "interviews" with a number of practices led us to Dr. Sharara and the VCRM team. From the first call, we could tell that they'd be who we'd trust our fertilization journey with from then on. The confidence and clarity that Dr. Sharara presented put our minds at ease (as much as possible), and the administrative and nursing support staff were personal, attentive, and understanding. We drove almost 4 hours each way to work with the VCRM team, to much success. Dr. Sharara proposed some new tests and analyses that we'd never been introduced to, in addition to the one or two that UPMC said might be helpful. Though going through the process was frustrating at times, it was not for lack of compassion, consideration, and rigor on the VCRM team's part. We had an incredible experience with Dr. Sharara and the entire VCRM team. We were blown away from the moment we walked in the door. The staff is warm and friendly and always knows your name. From our first meeting Dr. Sharara was determined to find us a solution to bring us our family. We had been at another clinic previously where two implantations failed and one ended in miscarriage. The entire experience had been very unpersonalized and cold. VCRM could not be any more different. Dr. Sharara is a problem solver and is devoted to his patients and finding a successful approach. Before undergoing anything, he first conducts thorough testing to determine what might be your fertility issue. His work is grounded in research and the latest studies. His approach may seem different if you've been anywhere else, but I cannot stress enough, TRUST him. Once he felt we were in a place where we were ready for Egg Retreival, I cannot praise enough how amazing him and his team were. They offered solutions I'd never been presented before when my lining was thin. Jessica in particular was incredibly thoughtful, making sure we understood how to do every injection, answering our questions no matter the hour. They also approach billing in such a thoughtful manner, because as you may know with IVF, it is not an easy topic. The day of my retreival the entire team made me feel taken care of and provided detailed guidance so I didn't get OHSS again. Dr. Fady Sharara is wonderful and I highly recommend him! We had a great experience with him. We can personally attest to his expertise and to his compassionate and sensitive care. Dr. Sharara treated my wife's PCOS, which was causing her long irregular periods, successfully and control it with Metformin and Cabergoline. After taking strict instructions on diet for 1 month, my wife got pregnant naturally. He is proactive, thorough, and genuinely cares. After my wife got pregnant, he sent a letter to her OBGYN updating him about her pregnancy status, about the medications she was taking, and he asked him to take good care of her. His staff is very kind and friendly. They treated us like family. Mary was very helpful scheduling us and giving us the best times that worked with our schedules. She is also very welcoming and pleasant when we come in. Trisha, who oversees billing, explained to us clearly what our insurance plan covers and what it does not cover. She also helped us by providing us with a payment plant. Jo, his nurse was very compassionate and always called us to check on my wife and assisted her from her first day in this practice till the last day before she was transferred to her OBGYN. Fady is a monster - stay away! This guy couldn't be more awful. And when we visited other clinics and mentioned we saw him and were put off, every other doctor had something negative to say. In no other case did they say anything negative about another clinic - except his. He only cares about money. He sells you on totally unnecessary treatments like a CAP test that are totally unnecessary. He makes you buy his diet app, because apparently paying his thousands of dollars isn't enough to give it to you. He insists on lots of supplements that have no medical proof that they work - and he insists that you give them his code when you buy them, because he obviously gets a share. When it comes to treatment, he was a total monster. My wife went to him for a couple of appointments - the usual intro stuff. And at maybe #3 or 4 he asked if she had started taking DHEA. We started everything else, but weren't sure DHEA was right for her. And he accosted her, made her cry, said if she didn't listen to everything he said she'd just fail. He couldn't have been meaner. So, if that's what you're looking for in a doctor who is supposed to help you through an insanely difficult situation, he's your guy! read more

Because of Dr. Sharara and VCRM, I am now 15 weeks pregnant and doing great!! I have always suffered from irregular periods that were anywhere from 30 to 70+ days apart. After a year of trying on our own with no luck, we first sought medical help at a different larger fertility clinic. There, I felt frustrated by their wishy-washy and vague communication-style. I never felt like we got clear answers about our infertility. Needless to say, our treatment there was unsuccessful. Frustrated with their level of service, we decided to move on and consult with Dr. Sharara upon recommendation by a coworker. Our experience with Dr. Sharara was vastly different. He was extremely thorough, assertive, and had a clear plan in mind for us. After running several tests on my husband and I, he affirmatively diagnosed me with PCOS and educated me on what it means. We went into the consultation wanting to do IVF right away, but he was adamant about me taking a break for 2-3 months to prep my body. His first goal was to get me to ovulate naturally without relying on medications like Letrozole/Clomid. He asked me to try a "fertility diet" (low carb, no sugar), take several supplements, and just try to conceive naturally during this time. We were shocked and a little doubtful at first, but we appreciated his more prospective approach, so we decided to trust the process and go with it. Well, just after 1.5 months of the diet and supplements, we conceived naturally!! Of course, what worked for me might not work for everyone, but what I felt I got from him was a plan that was tailored for my condition and age...and not some standard cookie-cutter protocol. My husband and I are tremendously grateful for Dr. Sharara. While under his care, we found him and his nurses to be extremely personable, compassionate, professional, responsive, and VERY timely (never waited more than 5 mins). And while we (thankfully) didn't need "medical treatment" from him per se (i.e. IUI or IVF) , he empowered me with so much knowledge and the things I can do for myself, and it's because of THAT, I feel less helpless about my condition, I understand my infertility better, and can now happily say I am pregnant. Pregnant at last! Dr. Sharara is a true miracle worker. I'm 38 years old and have struggled with diminished ovarian reserve for years, since my early 30's. After a negative experience with a top fertility clinic in Washington, D.C., I knew I had to look elsewhere for my fertility needs. I was referred to Dr. Sharara via multiple close friends who had successful pregnancies with him, and the moment I walked into his clinic (and didn't wait for more than 5 minutes in the waiting room) I knew this experience was going to be different. His front desk staff is sweet and warm, the nurses (special shout-out to Jessica and Jill!) are beyond caring and attentive, and then there's the genius himself. Dr. Sharara is kind, with incredible bedside manner, and takes a holistic approach to meeting your fertility needs. He was the first doctor I met with that discovered I had low thyroid levels that were impacting my fertility. He immediately put me on thyroid meds alongside a long list of vitamins. When I initially came to him, I knew I had fibroids on my uterus and it had been recommended to me to remove them. Because the fibroids were located on the outside of my uterus and not within the uterine lining, we were able to do two rounds of egg retrieval before the fibroid removal surgery. Those two initial rounds of egg retrieval resulted in an average of 2-3 mature eggs, many of which would fertilize, but none of which would become embryos. It had me feeling sad, low and defeated, but Dr. Sharara assured me he would not give up on my dreams until he felt like we had tried everything. He recommended we remove the fibroids next and referred me to the absolute best gynecological surgeon in the region, Dr. Jim Robinson at Medstar. My surgery was a success (I was fibroid free!) and three months after my myomectomy, with my new fibroid-free uterus in tow, Dr. Sharara was back to the drawing board, but this time, with a new plan. Since our first two rounds of egg retrieval did not result in any embryos, Dr. Sharara thought we should try something different. He decided to switch up our regimen with a new procedure - a day 3 transfer! "Maybe your eggs prefer to fertilize and become embryos inside of mom, instead of inside the lab?", he said. Imagine how pleased I was to have a doctor who was willing to try something new, trial and error? He's going to make sure he's done EVERYTHING in his power to get you pregnant. Plenty of doctors would have stuck to the same method. Retrieve eggs, wait for embryos, test embryos, freeze embryos, eventually transfer. This time we were going to go straight from egg retrieval to implantation/transfer on day 3 of fertilization. We fertilized 3 total eggs and directly transferred them on day 3 of fertilization. On the day of my retrieval, he said to stay positive, but he kept my expectations tempered. He's a realist and doesn't blow smoke! After two years of trying to get pregnant, one of those years with Dr. Sharara, I got a phone call from him two weeks after our transfer on the day of my pregnancy test ... and we both screamed with joy at the news of my positive pregnancy. He did it!!! We did it!! I get emotional writing this review, thinking of the day he called me to tell me something I thought was impossible. Fast forward 4 months, and I'm 5 months pregnant today. VCRM was a wonderful experience. The nurses (thank you, Jo!) and staff were very attentive and treated me very well during my IVF process. One thing that I appreciated about the private office is that I was always assisted by the same staff. I was not rotated by different nurses/doctors on every visit. ( This is one of the main complaints that I read on many online threads about nearby fertility clinics) Dr. Shahara is as professional as they come. I was very fortunate that my IVF journey was successful on the first attempt. I believe a big part of that was Dr.Shaharas method that he required me to follow. I thought at first that his methods were a bit extreme but at the end I noticed he just wants the procedure to be successful on the 1st attempt. VCRM was the first place we went to during my IVF search and from the first meeting, my husband and I absolutely loved him. He was very knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable during this difficult time in our lives. We were admitted in May 2021 and was pregnant by September 2021. We are now expecting our first little one thanks to Dr. Sharara and his team. Nurse Joanne is our favorite she calls to check up on you and is so friendly. Only thing I will recommend as far as Financial is that costs varies according to your specific needs, so be prepared. My husband and I can never thank Dr. Sharara enough. After two years at a larger clinic in the area, our insurance changed and I was able to switch to VCRM. From our initial consultation through to my last appointment I had only the best, most supportive experience at every visit. We spent over three and a half years trying to have our first child and I suffered miscarriages along the way. We were very close to giving up hope after a failed IVF cycle at the other clinic, but I'm so glad we kept going and pushed on to see Dr. S. Yep, the diet is a bummer, and the supplements make you feel like you're swallowing dozens of horse pills and the tests seem to never end. But all of that made the biggest difference -- including finding two major issues impeding my fertility that had not been picked up in two years by my previous doctor. Everything he tells you to do is 100% worth it. My husband and I felt going into our treatment at VCRM that we were truly receiving the best care and no matter what happened, we'd done the right thing switching clinics. Just before I turned 37, we were able to conquer our infertility woes with one round of IVF with Dr. Sharara. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with twins, and I thank the universe every day for sending us his way.
