At first I was told I would get my deposit back, but no credit appeared on my card. After weeks of not returning my calls, Lance told me he was keeping $2500 of my deposit. Choose another jeweler. My fiance and I had a wax ring made, and when selecting diamonds we were repeatedly offered diamonds of a lesser quality than we requested. We decided we weren't happy with the service (which should be our right). We asked for our deposit back minus the cost of the wax ring (which isn't more than $150). Lance kept $2500 (yes two thousand five hundred) of our deposit! We felt humiliated and I doubt that was legal, but we were busy with the most important time in our lives so we moved on. WARNING: If you are considering Shapiro, at least look at the photos of an actual product Lance custom made for me that he considers "exceptional" work. A few are posted in the album above and there's another link at the bottom of this review. I'd give ZERO stars if I could. I went through the WHOLE process and ended up having to get a refund because my custom engagement ring was horrible, the experience frustrating and Lance tarnished my engagement. 1. The ring turned out to not even be custom b/c all the specifications I gave him he didn't follow in the final product, even though he assured me he understood what I wanted. i have all the email threads as proof and I even went in and pointed out with a pencil specific lines I did not want on the ring. 2. Service is unreliable and frustrating. I dealt with Lance the whole time and he made promises he could never keep. When the process started to drag on past a month we gave him a deadline b/c we felt like we were being pushed back to the bottom of his queue. He'd set his own deadlines, and then not meet them. Sometimes he would not reply to our emails. My friend went with another jeweler and went through the whole process in under a month. Lance took three months. 3. Horrible workmanship! The "PLAT" that was inscribed inside the band looked like someone had sneezed in the middle of inscribing it. The side stones were bad quality so much that you could see inclusions and darkness with the naked eye and they weren't even centered. There were dents in the band similar to hail damage and upon closer inspection, there were holes all over the ring! I found out later from another jeweler it was b/c the platinum they used was recycled and the metal forms "pores" after being re-melted over and over. They also noted that the ring was very poorly polished as there were scratches all over it. Metal was also warped making my engagement ring look nothing better than a piece of play jewelry. 4. when I sent LANCE an email detailing every thing that was wrong, he merely dismissed any wrongdoing and claimed the ring was "EXCEPTIONAL" and that I was being unreasonable. I would avoid going to this jeweler at all costs. I spoke with Lance about getting an engagement ring done and everything seemed to be going well but then he refused to respond to any emails or calls. I was told on 4 different times that he was sending me over the renderings and I never got them. It became very obvious that he only cares about a customer if they are spending $10k or more. This is frustrating because I thought I had found a good place but Lance proved to only care about a big paycheck and not working with customers. I had a great experience with my recent purchase at Shapiro Diamonds. I wanted a wedding band to match my unique engagement ring so I began researching custom options. It was going to be more cost effective and I would get exactly what I wanted by going the custom route. Lance quickly responded to my inquiry with a quote and was extremely positive about being able to produce what I was looking for. He was always prompt and available via phone (although, never as inclined to communicate via email as I would have liked). He was also quick to make appointment time for me at all points in the process. My husband designed my engagement ring with Shapiro Diamonds. He told me he started designing it in August 2015 and it wasn't completed until December 2015 (when my husband proposed). He had it hand engraved on the outside of the ring, had a pearl setting, and a laser design on the inside. It was absolutely a work of art! It had to be resized a few times and I had bumped the pearl one too many times and had to reset the pearl once. Lance took care of any changes that needed to be made and ensured it was just perfect. Though it did take some time (ring was complete, fit, and all by March/April 2016), he was always very responsive and kept us up to date with the progress. Lance is a very personable guy and even after money had been exchanged he was still responsive and incredibly patient with my husband and me when it came to making changes to the ring. I wouldn't say they are inexpensive but you definitely pay for the quality and craftsmanship. I had an extremely pleasant experience when I bought my wife her engagement ring from Shapiro. Lance did a great job at understanding exactly what my wife wanted in her ring. I was recommended Shapiro Diamonds by several of my co-workers. Prior to working with Lance I had visited several different jewelry stores so I could give my fiance ideas on the type of ring style I would like. I found the perfect mount at a different jewelry store but the problem was the clarity of the diamond...it was horrible! I thought I would give Lance a try and I'm sure glad I did! My first meeting with Lance was without my fiance. I wanted to work with him on the exact ring I wanted so I didn't have to worry about him trying to sell my fiance a more expensive diamond. Right after meeting him I knew I didn't have to worry about it. He was very respectful of my budget and found the perfect diamond to go with the mount I was looking for. He had very beautiful diamonds and many different styles of rings. I could not believe the quality of diamond he was able to offer for the budget I set. He told us it would take approx 4 weeks to design the ring. I am not sure exactly when my fiance ordered it but we were engaged approx 5 or 6 weeks after I showed him the exact ring I wanted! It ended up being a little too big for me so I had him re-size it and got it back within a few days. The only negative thing I would have to say about Shapiro is it takes a few days for him to get back to you when trying to set up an appointment. However, he is the only one doing the appointments so to his credit I'm sure it takes him some time to get back to everybody.
