Hands down one of the best doctors I've ever met. Extremely professional and very caring human being. A dying breed among his peers.

Other doctors brushed it off, but Dr. Houman took the time to truly listen and explain how varicoceles can cause pain and impact sperm quality and hormones. His depth of expertise in microsurgical varicocele repair and testicular pain treatment is obvious. He was thorough, honest, and never pushed unnecessary treatment. The care felt very precise and highly specialized. Since treatment, my testicular pain has significantly improved and my fertility testing showed significant improvement! Just as important, I finally felt confident and supported throughout the process. If you're dealing with varicoceles, chronic testicular pain, or infertility and want a urologist who genuinely specializes in men's health, I highly recommend Dr. Houman.

We were flying back from San Franciso and they were booked solid, but the staff understood the urgency and gave us the first cancellation later that afternoon. Dr. Houman saw me immediately; quickly understood the issue at hand, personally swung into action, and ten minutes later had the situation under complete control. He wrote a prescription, gave me exact instructions what to do and what to look for over the next few days, and scheduled a follow-up appointment a few days later. A week later, the issue is in the rear view mirror and I have urologist for life. Dr. Houman is down to earth, very personal, and clearly cheering you on for success. His entire staff follow his lead - a terrific group of healthcare professionals.

Thanked me for taking the time out of my busy schedule, to get there, and early. If he's running a little late, he has always apologized so far, although one cannot undo tardiness. But at least he's not late like a lot of these gynecology offices are, and with no apologies nor real attempts to improve, to use as one example. Some of the few things I would say to work on are perhaps to not try to sway a patient to use the portal. If this is in UCLA's staff training, they need to stop doing this. There are many patients like me who prefer for various reasons not to use the portal. And we should never be made to feel that we won't get as good of a response from the doctor and office if we choose not to use it, being direct or indirect about it. We also should not be told falsehoods/insinuations like, how 'everyone else is using the portal" 'it's easier to use than calling in, and that it is implied that "I'm the only one that doesn't use the portal" or maybe even 'most people use the portal- so should you'- kind of a disposition- no matter how true some of those might be, even if)'. This is not so much a singling out of this doctor, but this is to say that a lot of UCLA DOCTORS AND admin staff do indeed do and and imply these things and it is not right. There was also no toilet paper in the restroom when I was being asked to empty my bladder. So I had to wipe my hands on my pants, I've noticed that in many offices offices, the soap is all out in the bathrooms too. This may seem small and/or people would want to minimize such valid concerns, but this all adds up when employees are being evaluated for delivering the patient- centered care that we pay them for. Front desk is 'okay', perhaps like most UCLA staffs, but I'm a pretty cheerful patient, despite the severity of my physical illnesses, so was able to smooth over some of the front desk's abruptness when she was talking loudly to me across the room to put a Mask on. I therefore had to slowly turn around to see Her, and then kindly had to tell tell her to just give me a few seconds as I was trying to set my purse, backpack and bag all down while I was waiting to be taken back to see the MD. In summation, I like the doctor so I'm going to try to stay with him permanently, but hopefully the office will improve with these things permanently.
