Despite that, there was no discussion about whether the henna formula had changed since my previous visits, no explanation that the product contained PPD (a common allergen), and no offer to perform a patch test before applying the tint. Within hours of leaving the salon, my eyebrows became swollen, red, and intensely itchy. By the following day, I had developed clusters of blisters where the tint had been applied, and my skin was clearly having an allergic reaction. I spent Sunday treating the symptoms with Benadryl and Cortizone-10, and by Monday I had to seek care at urgent care, where I was diagnosed with allergic contact dermatitis and prescribed a stronger steroid cream. On Tuesday morning, I wrote an email requesting a refund and attaching a photo to which I have received no acknowledgment or reply. Unfortunately, the experience didn't end there. On Tuesday morning, I experienced an anxiety attack because of how severe the reaction had become. Later that afternoon, I developed a severe migraine, and over the following days I noticed eyebrow hairs beginning to fall out in the affected areas. The urgent care provider explained that my reaction was consistent with an allergy to PPD, a chemical commonly added to henna dyes to create a darker, longer-lasting color. While I understand that allergic reactions can happen and that salons are not medical professionals, PPD allergies are well documented. Given that I specifically mentioned having sensitive skin, I believe the salon should have informed me that the product contained PPD, discussed the risk of allergic reactions, asked about prior sensitivities, or at minimum offered a patch test before proceeding. I've had this same service at this salon in the past without incident, which makes the lack of any conversation about the product or potential risks even more disappointing. What should have been a routine cosmetic service resulted in weeks of pain, medication, medical treatment, significant stress, and temporary hair loss. I cannot recommend this service or salon based on my experience and the fact that I've received no reply to my email. Note that I am too upset over the event to call the salon again. I hope the salon takes additional precautions to better inform clients and help prevent someone else from going through what I did. While I previously supported this small business, I will never return.

Although I had an overall good experience there, when I went for my 18ish month touch up, the owner of that business seemed distracted, didn't really care to listen much and overall the whole service felt like a rushed, assembly line transaction. It's been 18 months since that last touch up, so I was due for one. My brows started to have that washed out look, but I just didn't feel compelled to go back to the original artist (although the color boost would have been much cheaper.)After following Good Brows on social media for a few years, I decided that Simone's work had a softer, more natural look that was much more aligned with my taste. So I inquired and she soon followed up to set up a consultative call after I sent a picture of my brows at present. My appointment was set up on that call, which was about 6 weeks away. I made a non-refundable deposit at that time and then received more pre-appointment instructions the week of my appointment. I must admit, there are a lot of details to read and pay attention to when it comes to policy - which is either a sign of a meticulous and detailed business owner, or potentially someone so particular that flexibility may not be at the forefont when it comes to collaboration. Luckily, all of these details are just so that Simone can maintain a high level of professionalism in running her business and ensuring that her clients receive the standard in care and artistry that they're paying for. On morning of the appointment, I gave myself plenty of time to ensure I wasn't late (there is a $150 rescheduling policy if you're more than 10 mins late.) She texted me right when I was arriving, which was a few minutes early to let me know I could come in if I was waiting, so we were able to start right on time. The studio space is warm and beautiful, adorned with gorgeous art (if you're lucky, she may tell you some stories about the pieces.) She then sat with me to talk about my concerns and interests. She's a good listener - genuine, intentional and collaborative in ensuring that what you like is what she delivers. When asking about how nano strokes might look over time, she was honest with me and level set expectations. I can't tell you how much I appreciate that kind of transparency -it's refreshing. She ended up cleaning up my brows, color correcting and adding a few strokes to the front and I tell you - I feel brand new (even fresh out of the chair, which we all know can feel a bit alarming before the color softens up in the healing process.) Additionally, it was evident through our conversation throughout that Simone is a beautiful human - inside and out. I enjoyed our chat and loved the result of her work. If you're in limbo, I suggest you go for it but have a good sense of what you're looking for. Bring examples of past work that you may like or try to go in with an understanding of the overall aesthetics of what appeals most to you. Simone is an expert, so the quality of the work speaks for itself. It's located in a busy shopping strip (shops on the front and back side) and is easy to miss if you're not looking. It's upstairs in a small suite with two threading chairs.
