Haven't tried take out from Shanghai in a long time. Ordered food for the family and found Mongolian beef wasn't fully cooked and too saucy. Other items ordered were ok. Just not as good as previous. read more

Excellent people own this business. They are like family to me and even if the food came out cold I would still love it because of how these people treat me. The food def is always delicious and hot and it's such a good experience getting to chat with the owner and his family. I love the location and I love the quick in and out of this place. If you want good food and quick service, don't waste your time on other Chinese places. This is the one. Seated quickly and order taking was an easy process. I have to admit though I have had better Mongolian Beef - just the overall flavor. The fried rice wasn't very fried and could definitely use more flavor. I added some of my beef sauce to it to jazz it up. The Chicken Fried Rice platter also needed jazzing up - so I added some Duck Sauce that was on the table. Good service. I will likely try it again to see if it was an off day. read more

Interior is nice, but the tables were sort of sticky, I got the Sweet and Sour chicken, and my fried rice, it tasted pretty good. Service was really good but we were the only people inside so I can't really say, Overall really good! read more

Shanghai Garden must share food suppliers and interior decorators with about half the Chinese restaurants in Greater Cincinnati. I couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu as I walked through to doors to see the same placemats and wall mounted Chinese pictures I'd seen so many other places. When my food arrived, I knew I'd eaten this same dish before, yet this was the first time I'd set foot in Shanghai Garden. Homogenous, lower-quality food is what you'll find at Shanghai Garden. I ordered General Tso's chicken with fried rice. My entree arrived within about 8 minutes, but I was disappointed to see a bland mound of yellow "fried" rice with frozen carrots and peas scattered throughout on my plate. How dull. What ever happened to homemade fried rice? And the General Tso's wasn't any better--saucy bits of deep fried "chicken" lacked any of the heat one would expect from this dish. Sadly the dish was only garnished with two measly broccoli florets. Altogether, I was out $5.50. I'd only recommend this place if you lived in Union and didn't feel like driving to another, better Chinese restaurant. Otherwise, check out Cathay Kitchen in Florence or Oriental Wok in Crescent Springs for a unique dining experience. read more

About to leave for the airport... last meal before leaving KY and I needed Hong Kong Chicken (they do NOT have this in LA). We ordered a ton of food and it was only $47. It was OK. Ordering on the phone was super easy. Tons of parking (I know this isn't an issue in KY but it is where I live in LA). Food was ready in the time they said it would be. Lemon chicken was kind of weird... just fried chicken with a gelatin lemon sauce on the side. Fried rice wasn't great. But the shrimp egg rolls and crab rangoon hit the spot. And the Hong Kong Chicken... well, it is what it is... it's basically fried chicken with brown sauce. And I left KY with my craving satisfied. read more

They actually have a website (http://www.shanghaigardensunion.com), which is a step up from most other Chinese restaurants. There was a coupon for 2 combo entrees for $10.99. Good deal. We got sweet & sour chicken, bourbon chicken, and wontons. The entrees were pretty good, the wontons just ok. I called in my order so I didn't know there was a Pad Thai special until I picked up my food at the restaurant. I definitely would've tried it if I knew beforehand. I ordered take out today and was less than impressed. I ordered the hibachi chicken dinner (chicken and veggies with rice). The menu states it comes with soup and salad... mine did not come with either. What I received was a small container of rice and a bowl of chicken chunks with a few slices of onion. I made sure to order yum yum sauce since that's my favorite. The sauce was in a tiny container and unlike any yum yum sauce I have ever had, it was so sweet it was almost like a dessert topping. This is absolutely one of my favorite Chinese food places in Northern Kentucky. Not only is the food very good, but the owner/operators are some of the sweetest folks that you will ever meet. They do everything that within their power to make the customer happy and really are special. Their beef short rib was excellent as was their spicy fried shrimp. Rude, rude, rude owners and employees. We are supporting our local restaurants during the Covid19 shuts downs. So we called in our order, and waited in the parking lot. An older man waved my Marine husband to come in. He then said "get the hell out, he didn't call me. My husband restrained from yelling back and went back to his truck. Waited 45 minutes, as others were let in. We left. Never did they contact us about our order, but the $30 bill is deducted out of our account. Thieves. My family and I have been customers at Shanghai Gardens for over 12 years and on average dine in/order carry out 1-2x per week (not an exaggeration). They have a large selection on the menu, great prices, consistently good food, family owned and treat you the same, & there's plenty more. They rarely take longer getting your order to you than when they say they will. On the rare occasion there's a problem with the food/order they fix it immediately without question. So, some of these negative reviews I've read on here are not even close to the norm for the restaurant. Every place can have a bad day for multiple reasons as everyone has a different opinion on what tastes good. But, as a customer that has been going there almost every week for 12+ "years" I can say that this is one of the consistently best ran restaurants, best Chinese food, and friendly service that I have been a customer at. read more

Super friendly staff and great food. Perfect for takeout, but my favorite is the lunch specials during the week. During lunch in the week they have hibachi, but they don't make it at your table. The menu is large and everyone will be able to find something they like on it. And if you can't decide, Orange Chicken and fried rice is always good. Portions are usually large so you can share and if you are doing take out it's usually 15-20 minutes, so it's not a long wait. Overall a great experience. read more

Ate there last night. Hot & sour soup was inoffensive, but nothing to write home about. The egg roll was ok. The hot mustard was VERY watered down and not hot at all. The Hunan Chicken lacked spice and the chicken was quite rubbery. I couldn't even eat it and ended up eating the vegetables and leaving the chicken. Found a chicken bone in there as well. I have had their food before and it was a 3 out of 5. This time it should be a 1. General Tso's chicken had no spice at all. Quite possibly the wrong order. Still, it had no flavor and mostly breading. My wife had Sesame Chicken and it didn't taste much different. Got pork egg rolls, just no pork. Fried Rice had a few peas and carrots. This is a clean friendly place that serves decent food that is made fresh to order. My kids love the boneless pork appetizer and I enjoy beef with snow peas. The staff are very accomodating of special requests. It is also a great place to order carry out and take home when shopping at Kroger next door. Prices are reasonable.
