I had my nails, hair, and makeup done here yesterday. I had a good experience! Dori did an AMAZING job on my hair and makeup! I had never had my makeup done professionally before, and was dreading it because my 30-year-old face decided to remind me what it felt like to be a teenager. I was covered in blemishes for the first time in years, and so embarrassed. Dori put me at ease, had a great sense of humor, and was so sweet and pleasant about all the little adjustments I wanted her to make to my makeup and hair. Considering I didn't show up with a picture of the look I was going for, she had me looking fabulous. I would highly recommend her for hair, as well as skin, especially if you have problem skin and want it to look photo-ready. I never let people see me without makeup but she put me at ease. My nails were a different story :(. The nail tech only used two coats of a black nail polish--once I got to my car I noticed the coat was transparent and blotchy, and both OPI colors I had on my nails peeled off by dinner. read more

Definitely not the place it was in the past, every colorist & stylist I saw in the past is no longer there. It's been awhile since I've been here, but that just tells me they weren't happy employees. The stylist that cut my hair was very nice & has been there for years, however I asked for layers and to cut mid bicep because I have super thick hair any shorter and I'm stuck with a mess. of course when I left it looked nice, when I washed and dried it myself it is right past my shoulders and no layers I guess that's my fault for not paying attention, but also if you've been cutting hair for 20+ years I figured you would listen and understand why thick hair can't be cut this short. Got my eyebrows waxed they were very full and closer together after I got them waxed they were a whole inch apart. So terrible. I asked for a little bit cleaned up because I like them thick and full but she took off so much I look stupid now and I'm so mad. I have a really big thing next week and I wanted to look good now I look so ugly and stupid I'm so mad I finally got my eyebrows to how I liked and she just took away a whole inch of them it's looks like someone took a razor and shaved right down in between my eyebrows it's absolutely awful and I will be doing my own eyebrows from now on. I was finally starting to actually like myself but this just sent me back to the beginning I'm beyond pissed I've never looked uglier and I'm sorry to have to be so mean but I literally look like a toad. Edit: they hurt so bad after and then the next day I see a bunch of scabs and gross chunks out of my eyebrow area and it's so ugly and painful!! It's wonderful to find good service and decent customer treatment all in the same place. Unfortunately, I did not find both at Shamas. To clarify, the woman who did my eyebrows was an absolute doll. The owner, however, was far less than pleasant. When I arrived, I was told that there would be a short wait and the nice lady who checked me in offered to bring me a glass of wine. I declined. A few minutes later, I thought better of my choice and gestured to the owner as he passed. He sized me up with a glance as he paused to find out what I wanted. When I explained that I had changed my mind about the drink, the man rolled his eyes and perfunctorily summoned someone else to bring the drink. What I found most odd and off putting wasn't so much that he didn't pour it himself, despite our both being exactly next to the cute little bar area. No, it was the fact that he didn't so much as smile or even acknowledge me more than to hear my request and call for the help. I no longer live in the Toledo area, but if I did I would certainly not return. I don't need to spend my cash in a place where I am made to feel like a bother. read more

I had no idea the friendliness or the awesomeness of this salon!!!! I went in to have a partial highlight done and Carly went above and beyond!!!! My hair turned out better than I've ever seen it and so incredibly soft!!! Great customer service, friendly staff, and prices are not outrageous. Definitely would recommend. read more

Kelly aight. She cuts my hair even though I'm Asian. Totes equal opportunity! Really though, this mop isn't easy to make look good and she does a top notch job. Like, I'm saying if it weren't for the magic she works, I'd be like a 5, maybe. After she's done with me, I'm probably like a solid 7. Too bad I'm short. Then I might be like a 7.5 or so. Moral of this story: hair can make or break you or at least make you a lot less ugly. So, come to Kelly if you want to be a lot less ugly. I went in in the morning and set up a hair appointment and dye consultation for 1:45 the same day. I even confirmed with the girl at the desk. When I arrived they told me my hairdresser is doing someone else's hair because I was 15 minutes late (I was there at 1:45 exactly). The girl at the front desk who made my appointment then realized that she had told me 1:45 but put it down as 1:30, and even tried claimed that she tried to call me at 1:35 to ask where I was. I never got a call. They asked me if I would like to wait until 2:50 for another appointment. I definitely will not be going back there . read more

I have been going to Shamas for over 10 years. I even moved to Columbus and I still drive back to get my hair done here. I've tried many places in Columbus and none have done it as well as Shamas. Dana, Allen, and Ashley are all awesome hair colorists. Megan does a great job at hair cuts. She is usually booked, so I've tried many other stylists and haven't had a bad hair cut yet. It does take a long time to highlight all my hair. I don't mind. I don't want them to hurry and do a sloppy job. They take pride in their work and want to do a good job. With that time, does come a price. It's not cheap but also not super expensive. It's pretty reasonable considering the time they take and the products they use. I highly recommend this place. read more

I was blessed with a gift certificate from my dear friend who frequently has services done at Shamas. She really built this place up! I was so excited to have a much needed manicure. The technician was polite at first and asked many questions on what I wanted done. I have natural nails and really don't like to have false nails on my hands. She really pressured me to get a layer of something to make my nails stronger and will hold up to the nail polish. I politely declined. I think she got upset because she dug into my cuticles and caused one to bleed. She was not gentle with her hand. I said something and she tried to blame me for moving. I stopped talking to her after that and just let her finish her difficult job. I don't remember the girls name that did my nails. She is a bit on the heavier side with dark hair. The paint job was not complete either. I got a coat of clear, color and clear. Within a day the paint chipped off and paint went over onto my cuticles. For as much as my dear friend raves about this saloon, I don't think I will be back or recommend it here. read more

Not my favorite salon in terms of nail services and as a former cosmetologist i was appalled when i walked in to see the hair clientele blowing and styling their own hair! Hopefully they've changed this and have employed some seasoned nail techs since my last visit. Far too overpriced for these services and horribly located with difficult parking and access. read more

I've been coming to shamas since 2009 after having a bad experience with a chain hair salon( rather not name name) since coming here each experience has been fantastic even during their remodel Staff is personable and efficient and each cut and style has been What I've asked for unless I've given liberties to stylist. Hair color has also been great and one of the reasons I kept coming back and will keep coming back. I also chose to come here for my bridal hair and make up even though ceremony is an hour from perrysburg. The pre bridal was fun and relaxing and they did a wonderful job! I'd def recommend coming here and it is well worth your money. read more

Don't go here to get your hair colored. Nails: Great service. Hair cuts: Great. Dye job--total rip off. I got my hair done on Saturday and while I was advised that they couldn't give me what I wanted completely in 1 visit, I made it clear that I did NOT want to look like I had dyed my hair two colors and let it grow out for five months. My colorist said she would try to get me as close as she could--I understand it wouldn't be as bright as the reference photo, but it does not look anything like the picture in terms of where the color is placed (so that I could build off of it if i chose). When I tried to ask questions about the process over the phone, I was turned down and said I could come in for a quote and consultation. I was not given a price quote in my consultation and it cost 60% more than I expected. When I told my colorist I wanted to go ahead and try to get close, she progressively got more short with me and by the time we got to the washing portion I was in pain and tempted to ask if she was mad at me. Then, cherry on top, when they signed me up for the "hair drying station," it's where you stand at a mirror and dry your hair yourself because having them dry and 'style' it is a "different special price." I would much rather have been turned away instead of letting me proceed with a dye job that wouldn't work--I'm not the expert here, you are. I went home and cried that night, and then let it sit to see if I could get used to it. When I explained that I basically worked 10 hours to pay for this dye job, only to cry about it later and feel ugly, I was told I would get no refund, not even a partial because I was told I couldn't get the vibrancy in one trip. That's not the issue. The fact that it looks like I dyed it and let it grow out and now it's red in all the wrong places is the issue. I will not be returning and I would recommend you get a thorough price quote and make it very clear what you want before you go. read more

I was the maid of honor in my best friends wedding. I have never been a fan of false nails but in my line of work, I use my hands a lot (I work at Chrysler )so there isn't a point to them for me. I was recommended by my friend to go see Amanda at Shamas for a mani/pedi so I was just as perfect as the bride. My experience with Amanda was less than stellar. First, as Amanda approached me she wasnt smiling and looked sad but still shook my hand. She informed me tgat she,wasnt ready for me and was finishing up from her previous client and said I would need to wait for a little longer. I'm a paitent person, so I thought nothing of it. Again, I've never had a mani/pedi done. I sat down as she filled the basin with water and other stuff. As I sat there, she seemed annoyed in general. She hardly spoke at first and looked so upset. I kept starting a conversation with her. Finally she began talking and boy, do I wish I wouldn't have opened that can of worms. I found out that she is a single mom of two, she's been trying to lose weight and other personal things I don't want to discuss on this. All I can say is, what kind of people do you hire that talks about such details of their life and turmoil going on. If you don't want so much trouble with two father's to your children then different choices in life should have been made. Second, she cut the inside of my big toe and made it bleed. She kept working like nothing ever happened. My toe was sore for two weeks after and I had to wear heels the next day. Finally, I saw her pictures on instagram and on your facebook page but I don't feel she was the same girl. I had an awful experience with her and the salon. After about two weeks of having my nails done, I noticed that on one finger it began to hurt on the tip and my skin around my nail started to crack. I went to the Dr and they said I had a nail fungus. They said it was due to how the nails were put on. My hand hurt so bad for weeks that I had to use vacation time at work to make up what I missed from this fungus. This was on two of my fingers. They also said perhaps the person who did my nails wasn't clean or sanitary. I will NEVER step foot back into this facitilty. Amanda is a horrible technician and I don't care about her personal life, no client wants to hear about their drama, we have enough of our own. I hope you guys seriously look into how well she really works. I hope I am not a victim to many other clients afraid to say anything. Perhaps it could have been a bad day for her. Apparently not much has changed since 2009. Rude, rude, and rude. My colorist was a 'senior' colorist and she basically told me to shut up when i was trying to make small talk with her so she could 'get through my service'. It was as if I was bothering her by making her do her job. i told her i wanted highlights and she told me they wouldnt look good so she wasnt going to do them, so much for a lighter summer look. i think that she just didn't want to take the time to do them, i mean isn't the customer always right? she apparently just wanted to get back to talking loudly in the other room with the other blonde colorist. i was also told by the rude colorist that they have their own line of products, but have since found out that other salons carry the exact same product and the company just slaps a different salon's name on them. their employees complained about the owners, being at work, and customers loud enough for us all to hear. they try to place themselves in a category with high end salons, but they are anything but. i got a gift card and i'm going to regift it so i dont have to go back to this awful salon read more

This place says that they are handicapped accessible, but they are not. I went with one of the people Iwork with, someone that is developmentally delayed, and in a wheelchair. We had to wait forever between each service. The lady that did her massage was awesome, and worked very well with her. We waited forever to get her hair dyed, then they came out to say they wouldn't be able to do it because she wouldn't fit with her wheelchair at the sink. I was able to lift her to the chair with no problems, and the hair was rinsed out fine. Then we had to wait forever again for her hair cut. They did a fast job, just to get us out. They endued up calling us and saying they didn't want her to come back because she wasn't able to get her hair rinsed out on the chair. This particular lady had massages, coloring, hair cuts, etc booked up for the rest of the year.... she went once and they told her they didn't want her back.
