For the GRAND OPENING there were food trucks, lite bites, free sample, discounted items & giveaways. I attended this event & was ecstatic to see the arg amounts of people who enjoyed the taste of kombucha but also the health benefits. Lots of people attended & are excited to see Kombucha locally brewed here in New Orleans. Off in an area that's widely used by other business off Earhart near Broadway; this was the perfect place, perfect night, perfect weather. The facility itself is beautiful, widely spaced & gives off a laissez-faire kinda feel. Large brewing tanks adorn the floor for all to see.

As much as I hate the saying, "That's because you haven't had the right one." it actually did apply in this situation. It started with a photo shoot we did that used the beverages for props. I tried three or four flavors and I was convinced if I could make drinking them a habit I would eventually love them. I began with strawberry and realized quickly it was cheaper to buy the growler. Before I knew it I was drinking a growler in 2 days. Definitely my recommendation when people ask me "How can you drink that stuff?" THEN I went to a tap room flash sale and it was a sealed deal. Everything was half off. A guy in line told me you can always get discounts for bringing in your own glassware to get refilled. I'm going to try that next since I now have quite the collection. In short, if you want to try kombucha start with BigEasy. If you already regularly buy and drink kombucha make sure it's BigEasy. Of all their flavors you're sure to find one you like. If you can't decide reach for strawberry or peach. Enjoy!

You can find Urban South Brewery at 1645 Tchoupitoulas St, New Orleans, LA 70130. This is near the…read morewater and fairly easy walking distance from the nearby Abita Brewing New Orleans taproom. There appears to be street parking as well as some available lots nearby. Walking up from the water the first thing you see is this gigantic New Orleans mural and it's indicative of the brewery inside the same building - huge warehouse, it even has camper parked inside with a bar that extends much of the back wall. There are picnic tables so plenty of seating. I was there an early Monday afternoon so it wasn't busy at all, but I could imagine it being filled with lines to satisfy throngs of partygoers. There are five vertically placed flat-panel monitors with a variety of drink-menu options. I chose to get a flight of beers I hadn't had previously which ended up being 4 varietals of their King Cake Ale: * Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Creamy pale, almost registers as a fruited sour, sweet body with notes of almond, amaretto, cinnamon and vanilla. 4/5 * Coconut King Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Milky coconut in this almost tart King Cale ale, getting notes of both raw and toasted coconut, almond, amaretto, sweet vanilla and cinnamon. 4.3/5 * Almond Crème Strawberry King Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Creamy body with distinct almond note followed by vanilla and cinnamon. 4.2/5 * Strawberry King Cake Ale - Pale Ale - Other 6% - Fruity tart strawberry in this pale ale, finishes fruity and sweet, a touch dry. 4.1/5 Overall I enjoyed the beers I had - all very drinkable. The cinnamon was a bit much all at once, these are almost dessert beers and better taken in small amounts after you've slammed a few of their staple beers, in my opinion, but I'm still very glad I had them. The staff and service was good with an efficient demeanor - I think if they were slightly friendlier I might have stuck around and tried more of what they offered but as my second brewery (and plans for more exploration in the evening) I decided to keep things neat with this single flight. Afterwards I walked back up to St Charles and took a short nap and got cleaned up for evening shenanigans.

Holy Roller Hazy IPA is a great standard that I get in bars and buy in stores for the house from time to time. Upon my last visit, I got a flight that included their seasonal King Cake flavored sours. They had coconut, almond, strawberry and regular ( I think). During Mardi Gras if you want to brave the crowds on a Saturday, you can pair them with slices of King Cake from Doung Phong bakery. Urban South is a large warehouse with cool decor, pinball machines and tons of picnic tables. There are also 4-5 picnic tables outside along with a permanent food truck. They also bring in other food vendors from time to time and have crawfish boils all the time in season. My only issue with the place is if the garage doors are down, the place can smell like...well a brewery. Breweries do not smell good and Urban South's tap room is not separated from the rest of the brewery.

I love going places with Freckles McWolfington III, esq. He's my best little buddy and is always up for a ride in the truck, especially if it involves pets from strangers. Freki has got to be the friendliest pup I've ever met - if you see us out, be sure to say hi! The brewery is big and spacious, often hosting trivia nights and parties, and they showcase a LOT of great beer on tap. I'm kind of stuck on the AndyGator, but the selection is crazy huge. Come in and get a flight or two, bring your DD, and promise to switch roles on the next visit - that's how you brewery responsibly! Or Uber, someone's out there waiting to hear all about your visit as they drive you home. Love the folks here - the service is always terrific. No rush, take your time, ask questions, talk taste...these guys got you, man. We love to hang here because of the dog park area just outside, where you can sit in the shade, enjoy that beautiful dark golden brew, and watch your dogs check out every square inch of prime sniffing real estate. My little dude loves to watch for new people, so when you see him run - he's a chonk, but he's still a runner - up, give him a scratch and "good boy," he's gonna love it. On occasion, there's a food truck parked outside with tasty snacks, like the amazing pesto chicken sandwich I had a few weeks ago. The Abita Brewery is definitely a keeper and way up on the "repeat visit" list.
