Let's cut to the chase. I do not see the affection for this place. The food is typically small and pretty mid, especially for the elevated prices. I've been to the one in Troy, it's not a location based issue. We were debating between Shake Shack and another Midwestern burger destination. The other place would have a better flavored burger, basically the same crinkle fries, and custard - all for a lower price point. I do like that the Big Shack I had had some thicker patties with some pink inside. That was the only virtue though. A Big Mac with the special sauce would have had a better result, even with its meager patties. I had the seasonal Sticky Toffee Pudding shake. It wasn't that great either. I had high hopes, they were not fulfilled. Maybe you just can't shoot for an eclectic option like that. It was nearly $42 with tip for two burgers, two shakes and one shared set of fries. That's far too much for a mediocre meal. Service was fast and I liked the water station. So there's that. 3 stars flat. Next time we'll go to the other place for half the price. read more

Of the three gourmet fast food burgers nearby, Shake Shack probably ties for the best burger. Unfortunately, that isn't setting a high bar. The service is always good. Burgers are ready quickly, and the staff is attentive. The burger is consistently decent, the buns are excellent, and the burger bun ratio is perfect. Their chicken bites and chicken sandwiches are also consistently good but small portions. Don't waste your money or calories on the sides. The fries are terrible. Their shakes are often undermixed, and it's like someone told them "if you can sip it through a straw, it's too thin." I want to be able to drink a shake - that's usually not possible for a while after picking up a shake shack shake. I think I'm a champion of Shake Shack now because I come here so much. I should probably buy some stock so I can get my return on investment. I am still absolutely obsessed with this place. Now that it's warm out, you have the option to dine outside which is nice and relaxing. They play music so it's not so dull outside. I love their convenient walk up window. Service is quick and convenient. I like self check out devices. They have 4 to accommodate guests and if needed they can ring you up at the register. They have the best food, shakes, and fruit drinks/lemonades. I'm still sad they got rid of the peanut butter shake. They had the best one out there and I haven't found anything like it. When I came in to order today, I was having some issues with the ShakeShack app ordering. The staff were very helpful in assisting me. Big, beautiful, sterile environment. The personnel were very kind and helpful. At 62 I am so frustrated trying to order my food from a computer and my 85 year old mom...well, forget about it! I had to ask one of the employees to help me 3 times as I attempted to order and pay with a card (I 100% prefer paying with cash!) then I had to enter all kinds of crap like seat #, my name, blah, blah - God, I hate these self order things - THEN they ask if I want to TIP! WTH, TIP ME for doing someone's job! Now that my rant is over I will say this was my first time to Shake Shack and I loved it, sans dang self-order B.S. The burgers were fresh and delicious! I don't know what they do with the meat but it tasted so fresh and good. The fries were so/so and the shake was so/so but the burgers were so good. I was surprised since the name of the place has shake in it that they just had 3 shakes to choose from, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry there were 'out of' 2 flavored shakes - What the what - how the hey can a shake place be out of the flavored shakes? I'm told by fast-food restaurant employees that they sometimes say they are out of popular items on a menu as they do not want to deal with that item, i.e. clean up or whatever; let's hope that isn't the case here. Our strawberry shake was on the thin side and it lacked whip cream but it was a very creamy, delicious shake. Their condiment bar was fully supplied and very clean. I found the seating to be very uncomfortable. I brought a cushion for mom to sit on as her arthritis simply will not allow her to sit on hard surfaces. One of my favorite burger places and its always clean and friendly. Very friendly professional staff and consistent food quality that i prefer. Not a fan of hit or miss fast food places. I like the steak burgers and this company has been around almost a century. The meat is round, sirloin, and T-bone cuts so its very juicy and tasty. I read a person can open a franchise in 2018 of Steak n' Shake for $10,000 under a new franchise program vs Wendy's $2 million dollar price tag. Under the new terms the franchise keeps 50% of the stores profits with the rest going to corporate. We will definitely be back. Interesting restaurant with a interesting story and history. read more

Update since we came here last for the opening, we had a really great experience. This time we were able to take the time and sit down to eat in person. I really like the vibe of this place. They had some good music playing. It was very family friendly. They placed a few large screen TVs around to watch and have a fooseball table in the center. Fun! It is not a huge dinning area, but it seemed to have about equal dine-in, carryout, and food delivery pick ups, so it was not an issue to find a spot on a Saturday night. You can either order from the kiosk or face to face. The individuals who worked here were very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. They seemed to go the extra mile with making sure we had a good experience. This time we tried the limited Buffalo chicken sandwich, which was nice and spicy but delicious. I still stand by Shake Shack winning the chicken sandwich wars. We had the Buffalo spiced cheese fries, also very good. There was a nice ranch sauce that came on the side but I am not entirely sure if it was for the sandwich or the fries, but I am sure you could order it if it does not come with. We also tried their chocolate pudding pie shake which was amazing. They made it nice and thick so we ate it with spoons. The oatmeal was blended inside the shake, and the crispy croissant cookies were sprinkled on top. We also had the lychee punch, which was very refreshing. I am not sure when they got these, but they now sell the wine in little cans and added a rose. I did not have them, but this is great for a carryout since you would be able to take the can home and try it. I would love to try their rose. I've enjoyed the white in the past and wonder if it is still as good in the can, and I have never tried the red, but I would be likely to try it if I could take it home. We also had a couple burgers, one classic and one shack stack with the mushroom. The meat was very well cooked and delicious. Shake Shack is so smart. They truly made the best business decision opening up a Shake Shack location in The Village, replacing the Xfinity store (total upgrade btw), and being literally 3 miles away from me. It's a terrible decision for my body and my bank account, but very smart for Shake Shack's business because you BEST believe that I've already been there 3 times since they opened LAST WEEK! Danger! DANGER! I freaking love Shake Shack. Hands down my favorite "fast food," although it's more considered fast casual given the fact that they don't have drive-thru locations. What this Shake Shack location offers that none of the other Shake Shack's in Michigan offers so far though is that they have the absolute most adorable pick up window you can walk up to and pick up your to-go meals. This is what I've opted for the past 3 times given that I've just run out on my lunch break during work to grab a quick meal. It allows me to avoid the lines inside, which so far haven't been nearly as bad as when they first opened up in Detroit and Troy, but is also sad because this means I haven't even seen the inside of this Shake Shack yet! I'm sure I'll get there at some point, but thus far, I absolutely have been loving and taking full advantage of the pick up window. Placing an order on the Shake Shack app beforehand, setting what time you want to pick it up, then just walking up to this window is so great. The parking lot directly outside of Shake Shack is small, but there is plenty of parking throughout the entire Village, so there's really never going to be a parking issue here. The food is absolutely delicious. Their quality is so consistent so I have really seen no difference between all the locations, including this newly opened location. Everything on the menu is incredible and definitely keep you eyes peeled because they often roll out new, limited menu items that are always so tasty as well. Last month, they had a whole collaboration on their shakes with MILK BAR. Those shakes were out of this world. This month, there's a literal black truffle BURGER and black truffle sauce that you can dip your crinkle cut fries into. My goodness, it was insanely delicious. I'm a huge fan all around. My go-tos are their smash burgers, the crinkle cut fries, alllllll the extra sides of Shack sauce, and all their chicken products, especially their chicken bites. Love that Shake Shack has hits Rochester Hills! Our first visit was purely just for shakes. The inside has high ceilings with a pretty large dining area to the left. The color scheme and decor is bright and inviting. There are a few tv's and a foosball table. There were four kiosks but only one was working. There also was one person on the register. Plus a walk-up window from the outside. There is a condiment area but no serve yourself pop station. However, there was serve yourself water that is tripled filtered water. It took a while to get our shakes. Noticed that our shakes were ready but instead of handing them off, a staff put them in the freezer to keep cool while other orders ahead of us were being made. Straws are compostable. To the right of the pickup area was orders from 3rd parties like door dash, etc. Our shakes were delicious. The cup size is tinier than your other fast food shakes but the flavors and quality is much better. read more

On my only visit to this location it was during a very busy holiday event at the Village. The restaurant was filled with high school age students that were hanging out with friends. We were lucky to snag a table after we placed our order. I ordered two malts and an order of chicken nuggets that came to $19. The malts were good. I like that you could get malt that was half chocolate and half vanilla. The small box of nuggets had maybe 5-6 pieces of quite tasty chicken. Next time around I'll try the chicken sandwich. This was my first time ever going into a Shake Shack. My daughter said they had good shakes, and since we were shopping in the Village of Rochester anyway, wanted to check it out. My first impression was how huge it was. One side seemed to be the ordering area, and then another area had seating, lots of windows throughout, fuse ball table for an activity. Some high top tables that seemed to get filled with college age kids, vibe definitely was a younger crowd inside. Got pretty packed after we sat down with our food. Cashier was friendly, atmosphere-industrial vibe. Lots of people coming here. Don't recall name of the shake I purchased as it was Dec . 30th 2021 when we went...but it was Delicious!! Would go there again just for the shake flavors! The smokestack sandwich seemed a bit small for the price($7.49)but it packed a punch with flavor-the chopped cherry peppers were awesome. The last time we were in, there was a lot of guests just waiting around and our online order was given to us about 20 minutes after we got there. I'm not sure why there is so much hype is about this place. I had fries and a couple of chicken nuggets, the food was really heavy and left a bad aftertaste. My friend had a regular burger and couldn't get through eating a quarter of it. When I picked up the order, I had to go back to the counter to ask for my missing item...even though the receipt lists the item in the order.
