i went to Shahla's for the first time a few days ago, and it was a wonderful experience! the girl who did my mani & pedi was so kind, asked my preference for a few things (which i appreciated) and she was detail oriented. the facility was clean and well taken care of. I didn't get my eyebrows done there, but a few women came in to get theirs threaded, and Shahla uses a magnifying mirror with a light for precision, which i have never seen used before and i LOVED it! i will definitely be getting my eyebrows threaded in the near future!! read more

I have been going to Shahla for eyebrow threading for almost ten years, and I won't let anyone else touch my brows. After Shahla perfectly shaped and trims your browls she uses a lighted, magnified mirror to expertly tweeze any stray hairs. She then finishes with a swipe of witch hazel to soothe any redness or irritation and you leave feeling like a million bucks. OMG -- best facial I have ever had! Shahla does the work personally and I've heard through the grapevine, that she used to work on Geri Haliwell's (Spice Girls) face when Shahla lived in London. Shahla is soft-spoken, very knowledgable and takes her time with your facial to give you the best possible glow evah! Recently, I have been experiencing some breakout and a concentration of oil in my t-zone and my chin area. I have been told it is related to hormonal changes. Shahla performs very litle extraction on my face, which minimizes redness and future breakouts. Since I have been seeing her, May 2011 to date, my acne has all but disappeared. She was also the first esthetician to ever tell me I should be treating my skin as oily. This has made a huge difference! The line of products is Dermalogica, which is some of the best and rivals high-end department / spa lines (i.e. La Prarie, Yonka, etc.) Shalah also offers hair threading -- an ancient skill of removing unwanted hair from the body but taking it straight from the follicle. There is no pain and she is able to create a beautiful arch which there was none. It is less damaging than waxing and just as accurate as tweezing. Not gonna lie. Threading hurts like a bitch. Way more than any wax has ever. More than my tattoo, even. Not sure if it's worth the price, however. $15? Whaaaat? It didn't really stay cleaned up any longer than waxing, either. Initially more precise, perhaps? But I'd rather do the wax/tweeze combo for $8 somewhere else. Besides that part, I felt very strange because there was hardly any verbal communication between myself and the woman who was doing the threading. To some people, that might be what they're looking for. I didn't need a full on conversation but a little customer interaction would have been nice. It's a small space, but nicely set up, which is really what gives it the third star. They turned on some relaxation-y music but it was a little too loud. I probably won't go there again for that price when I can be tortured for cheaper elsewhere. read more

This place is clean & conveniently located which is why I have it 3 stars I have no problem paying for great service. But I got my brows threaded here, paid $15 & was a bit disappointed. The threading was a bit painful than usual & wasn't as refined & precise as threading typically is. I also left later realizing I didn't have the same shape on each size. Being a makeup artist I get it - they're not going to be 100 % symmetrical. But I just feel for the price I should have be super satisfied. I've paid $7/$8 and have had a better outcome. read more

To say I am very particular about my eyebrows is an understatement. I moved to CT 2 years ago from NY, I was getting my brows done in NY from the same person for about 10 years. When I moved to CT I tried a few new places for my brows but found my self always being incredibly disappointed, so disappointed that I starting going home to NY just to get my brows done. I have a wedding to go to this weekend and was desperate to get them done since I haven't went home in a while. I decided to try Shahla's but was skeptical, mainly because I find, that for some reason no one in CT knows how to do brows, and because it was threading and not waxing. I needed to have some threading done before I went out of town, so I called Shahla as I was driving home from work and asked if they had time to fit me within the next thirty minutes. They were available, so I stopped by, and about 90 seconds later, I was good to go. It was actually the quickest and least painful threading I've ever had (usually a tear comes to my eye, but this time nothing), and she did a great job. Threading is a great alternative from waxing for people with sensitive skin because your skin isn't aggrevated. I will definitely be coming back. read more

Pedi was good...but mani sucked, the lady was nice but did a very amateur job at cutting & painting my nails. I go to nail salons to relax so if I see they're ñ doing a bad job I don't complain to them, I just don't go again because I can't change a person's service. (I do always tip despite it) My nails weren't filed even, the second layer of nail polish was partially covering some nails. By the next day I could see the polish was about to come off & it did. I was home all day so it wasn't because of me doing things that would make it come off. I was very disappointed because the very least the should last 3 days. read more

I first found this salon while searching for a brazillian wax as I had recently moved to CT and had no idea where to go. I have had dozens of waxes and the experiences I have had in this salon have been some of the best. The room is clean and simple and the wax is quick and painless. After my first wax in the salon, I took note of their manicure practices and was impressed. It is the only salon I've visited in CT so far that does not reuse files/buffers, something that is extremely important to me in a salon. I've been here multiple times for waxing and threading. It's very clean and well kept, and I've never had a problem getting an appointment when I need one. It is quite a drive for me though - about 40 minutes - and definitely not the most painless brazilian I've had. I needed a good manicure spa and I decided to stop in and try Shahla for the first time. I chose the ritzy manicure and it felt so relaxing and soothing. I enjoyed it, however, the young lady didn't make any conversation with me. She was a sweet girl, but quiet. As a first time client, I would of thought they would like to get to know their new clients. The Shahla is only popular for threading. This will be my first and last visit to receive a manicure, because they do not have a lot of selection in nail polish. I was looking forward to have a nice design on my nails with glitter, but they had no kind of glitter nail polish. Please get more nail polishes and some glitter! Overall, OK place. Probably the best pedicure I've ever had. The polish looked perfect and shiny! Also had a facial and it was fantastic. Shahla did an amazing job and took her time, my skin looked great afterwards. I really want to be able to give them a higher rating, but just can't. The salon is very clean, professional and nice-looking and the staff are very friendly. I like how they send you home with the files, etc. used during your manicure. First, I was frustrated because I made an appointment for the "Ritzy" manicure and pedicure (that had some extras over the basic), but didn't realize until they were done (and seemed to lack some things I expected) and was charged much less, that they actually gave me the basic of both. The pedicure was very thorough, relaxing, and the massage chair was amazing. However, the actual shaping and painting of my hands and feet unfortunately were lacking. I had two nails that had recently chipped along the side, so were more rounded than the others when I arrived. Although I asked to keep my nails squared, the those two nails were filed rounded, and the rest were filed squared (they were plenty long enough to shape), so upon leaving, my nails were two different shapes. I think the coats were done too thickly, because even after a quick-dry topcoat, sitting for a long time under the dryer, and being very careful driving home afterwards, my thumbnails still got dinged up almost immediately afterwards. Also, I'm not sure if it's the base coat or what, but by the end of the day, there was white peeling from all around the cuticles of my fingers, which by the next day caused all the polish to start peeling off from the bottom. Many of these things may have been the specific manicurist I worked with (I believe it was the owner)--the business itself seemed very nice. read more

I went there twice so far and haven't been disappointed...I first tried threading my eyebrows (Best damn thing since sliced bread) I will never wax again...and than I had a pedi (let me tell you it was a long winter and summer without one) and the girl was excellent, she massaged, scrubbed, soothed, and relaxed my feet...not to mention its over a week and a half later and my toes still look like they were just done. I have been going to Shahla Day Spa several times now. The owner is a wonderful and very friendly person. What I LOVE is that every time I am giving a fresh set of nail file etc...of design for everyone one. The place itself it is very clean but I never did see the same girl working on me and I love her, the next time are all new girls. I love to have manicure and pedicure done by the Same Person. My manicure last time was not done to my liking at all. She did not took the time to clean it really well, and my manicure after 3 days look like I did not have nothing done to my nails. The cuticles were sticking everywhere and really look good two (2) days. Same comes to my pedicure. I did better job using my pumice in my shower :). Why the girls always lookin so down? not happy at all. Did not want to go elsewhere since I like this place do to the cleanliness and going back....Next time I will speak out right there. Oh, one more think. When I have an appointment PLEASE DO NOT leave me there while she's gone to to someone who just walk in (no appt) to do their face or eyebrows threading.Last time I was there well over 2 hours. read more

Went here for a half hour massage. The workers seemed very nice. Upon scheduling my appointment I was told the masseuse isn't there all the time and the woman who answered the phone would call her to schedule the appointment. She would then called me back to confirm. The day of my appointment I waited almost half an hour for the masseuse, then the woman who I believe answered the phone took me in the back and gave me a massage. I've had a few professional massages in the past but this one didn't feel the same. It felt like a friend was rubbing my back! I am a PERFECTIONIST when it comes to my grooming. I am almost always disappointed in professionally delivered beauty treatments...mostly because I know how certain things are supposed to be done correctly and almost always notice "professionals" cutting corners, skimping on product and just being lazy. It drives me mad! I discovered Shahla's salon a few years ago after moving to CT from MA. I hit the jack pot! Shahla and her assistant Ani are diligent, thorough and hard working. They deliver super premium quality spa treatments for very reasonable prices. They DO NOT cut corners or skimp anywhere. I also noticed that they use the same product lines used in high end spas - I believe Shahla's experience working spa's in London for numerous years has given her substantial knowledge regarding products, their ingredients, effectiveness and results with various skin types. I assure you, she is not your run of the mill beauty school graduate. This woman has serious experience! I've had eyebrows threaded, facials, pedicures, brazilians and whole body waxes done here. Great little gem... went for pedicures with a friend they were able to take us both at the same time - very clean tubs, comfy massage chairs, great pedicures! We were pampered and the focus of their complete attention! Make sure you have cash they don't want tip on a card, and they didn't seem to answer their phones- but that meant they focused on us. The person doing waxing is ok. She doesn't listen and tries to upsell you on other packages. Positive is that she goes beyond where you want waxed (lower on hip line than others and lower than told on arms). The negatives is that she is sloppy. She dribbles wax all over including on other parts of you body and clothes. When done, she proceeds to go wild on the baby oil. I left feeling like I was sweating baby oil and I had a ton of oil stains on my pants. Definitely not worth going again unless you wear the crappiest of pants and don't mind random wax drops on arms that she doesn't clean up. read more
