However, my banh mi today was far from that. It still had very thinly sliced meat that was barely present but at least this time they loaded it with more pickled veggies. It was quite disappointing yet again. The meat is actually thinner than when I first had it. The che dau trang was actually ok from here. The coconut cream is a bit on the salty side, but it balances out with the sweetness from the sticky rice pudding.

That being said, the server was very welcoming but did not offer any suggestions or recommendations to their menu. Apart from that, the ambience is very open and has a very 'retro diner' look with lots of booths. Being a new place there were not many people seated and walk in orders seem to be more preferred. If you are debating on a good and quiet time to go, I had arrived late into the evening at 8 pm and the service was still really prompt. I had ordered the 'Cookie Butter Croffle' and also wanted to try their House brew coffee. I was sharing with a friend and the portion sizing was pretty good for a light bite between the two of us. There were 2 croffles and 1 vanilla ice-cream cup on the side. The croffle was warm and not too sweet when paired with the icecream it was delicious! Almonds and biscoff bits for a nice little crunch and the layers of the croissant were very buttery. Would recommend if you like a lighter dessert as it hit the right spot without making me feel like I'm eating too much sugar. The coffee was straight from the pot and unfortunately did not receive a sleeve for it upon arrival but other than that the coffee was alright. My other friends loved their desserts just like I had and we were overall satisfied with our individual dishes! For a first timer I definitely will be coming back. This place is open late into the evening so if you ever have a late night sweet tooth I would definitely recommend it here as it really hit the spot!

Service is pretty attentive with the water refills. The buffet selection is not that large compared to East India or Ivory but it definitely offers enough for any Indian food fan to be satisfied. Some of the dishes aren't kept as hot (temperature wise), it felt lukewarm as it seemed like some dishes had been sitting there for a while. Other than that, for $12.99, I have no issues with this place! The best dishes are actually the vegetarian ones. The palak paneer was smooth, creamy and had a little kick to and great seasoning. The eggplant bhartha has great flavour and the most delicious potatoes. The vegetable korma was also rich and creamy. The butter chicken was okay - it's average, not that flavourful. The shrimp curry suffered a bit from sitting in the buffet pan as the last few shrimps I got were stringy. The spicy chicken was in a bright red sauce, though it didn't taste that spicy to me it had some good flavours going there. The vegetable samosa is baked, the pastry is a bit too thick for my liking but the filling is pretty good. The plain naan is included, a nice perk as many places charge extra. The naan tasted like it was baked as well and not made in a tandor oven so it tasted more like westernized flat bread. I've been wanting to try Famena's for the longest time since I started working downtown in October. Unfortunately the day I wanted to visit they were slapped with a health code violation and were shut down for almost 2 months. Famena's finally reopened in early December and I was able to grab lunch for takeout last Friday before the holidays. The number one item recommended by my coworkers was the ox tail, rice and peas. It used to only be available in selected days, but because of the pandemic the owners made it available everyday. The cost may seem a bit steep at $23, but it's worth it when you see the portion size. You'd have to be extremely hungry to finish the food off in one go...which I barely finished! The ox tail was extremely flavourful and juicy; I can definitely see where the hype is cause I've seriously never had food this filling and satisfying. Famena's is on Doordash during these tough times, but please, for the love of god, order from them directly. They deserve your support right now and are barely hanging on. I wanna try their roti next time, but moreover I really hope this place survives the pandemic cause I intend to be a regular here as much as I can and get to know the wonderful owners more.
