Food and service was just okay. The outdoor picnic tables left us wondering why the could afford real tables.

Yum! Huge amount of parking - especially for the beach. Not that we needed it midweek in mid sept! It's a rare find for sure. They have indoor and outdoor seating and a tiki bar. Looks like you pulled up tona tucked away island oasis, and maybe we did. Quick, friendly service. Totally laid back and casual vibe in here. Plenty of seating at tables and the bar inside. Try the trout spread! Yup!! It's a thing and delicious. It's served with crackers but they can do corn chips fresh for the gluten intolerant. It's comes on a dish with pickled jalapeños and okra. Pickled okra is some good eating!! Thank did the ceaser salad with grilled chicken. My friend did some fully blown up salad with fruit and cheese and how knows what else it disappeared so fast! Visiting the area and decided to try the ribs. Very disappointed, I do not like fatty ribs plus any gristle.

I can only give this 4 stars because of our actual dining experience - I'll explain that and then I'll explain the food. We signed in to wait 30 minutes outside. It's 90 degrees on this day. It was hot and we moved around a bit to find a shaded spot. Uncomfortable with 4 kids under 11 and a newly mobile infant. So they called our name! Yes! We moved approximately 10 feet to the picnic benches sitting.... OUTSIDE. We quickly ordered waters and refilled at least 3 times. Pretty sure the kids went to the bathroom 5 times because the inside was air conditioned. Ok the food- crab cake sandwich was HUGE and so good with the aoli. Their fries are sooooo good. The shoestring kind with seasoning all over. A bunch too. No ending. The kids ordered "2 ribs" and chicken tenders and finished them! The ribs are great! Tender enough to pull the meat off with a fork. Worked well for messy hands! The prices are up there but seem adequate for amount of food you get. Our server was on point and was VERY attentive and refilled our water dozens of times. He was great and friendly to the kids. I would recommend. Want to go back. read more

Excellent service and food. Dill pickle chips were exceptional. The Island Bowl was a healthy choice with fresh ingredients and perfectly cooked shrimp. Husband loved his oyster platter, and the offspring enjoyed two different fish tacos. Everyone left happy and full. read more

Our new favorite spot on Oak Island! A few of us stopped in for a quick cocktail and quickly decided we'd be back with the entire family on our beach vacation a few weeks ago. They have a list of their own signature cocktails: all delicious because we each ordered one haha! And after 5pm they have a tiki bar near the outdoor seating which was super fun for both the adults and the kids because they do virgin blended drinks. I orders the spicy goat burger and it was DELICIOUS. We had numerous apps and everyone was very pleased with their meal and overall experience. We now plan to go every year :) read more

So I don't know what the Regular menu food is like but me and my family were not impressed with the Sunday 1pm breakfast menu. The chicken and waffles were too crunchy and dry (they were over priced Sams Club waffles and cheap fried chicken strips). Went to Shagger Jacks while in town to see the Oak Island lighthouse. Stopped in here because it was rated pretty well and close to our hotel. I got the fried oyster platter, I've had better oyster plates but it was pretty good. My FIL had scallops plate and my wife had the Ahi Tuna. My favorite thing we ate there were the fried green tomatoes, topped with goat cheese and onions and I believe a balsamic glaze. All very good but the reason this place was so good and I'd recommend it was the phenomenal service we got. Our waitress was attentive but didn't hover over us and our to go order needed to be modified a bit and she was on top of it to make sure it was just right. I'm giving this restaurant a 1 star rating because I called at 3pm and asked if they could accommodate our large group and was told to come in at 8:30pm and they would take care of us. Check your Credit Card I recently visited this establishment the waiter Jacob decided that he deserved a 40% tip He changed the amount. I discovered this because the tip was so large that the credit card company flagged it. Called they did correct the mistake THAT's ALL THEY OFFERED. I will never go back to this restaurant. We decided on this restaurant based on the review on Yelp, and the fact that we wanted plenty of non-seafood options. The menu online looked great, but when we got there they were only serving the lunch menu. The very very small lunch menu. The hostess stand is located outside, in a cute seating area. There's only one problem: no one is ever there. We had to stand there for a while to be seated because all of the waitresses were inside and couldn't see us. When we got our food, it was alright, but when we asked for honey mustard with our chicken tenders, they informed us that they don't have it. When they brought out barbecue sauce as an alternative, it was very watered down. Overall, the food was alright and the service was good, we just recommend going at dinner time for the full menu. read more

Ok first lets start with the drinks. I ordered a Margherita with 2 shots and I don't think either of them had alcohol. My husband felt the same way and I paid 20.0 for those drinks. The I had the Korean bowl with blackened shrimp. the shrimp was amazing but I don't think the chef has been to Korea. You generally don't have taco shells in Korean food. Black beans either. It was more like a taco southwest bowl with shrimp on top. Very odd. Not one bit of picketed cabbage they had mentioned. Maybe they gave me the wrong dish.Well when I did not eat it, no one said own wait, you said Korean and not Mexican right? As I said the shrimp were really good and I could have just had those on a plate with sauce on top. I think they really need to stop watering down the drinks. I would never eat there again unless I had beer. read more

We looked for a place that had fresh, local seafood and would have menu items for our group. Considered a few different places, but ultimately thought this place with all the great reviews and menu variety would work for all. I'm sorry we came. We were really, really disappointed with the peel your own shrimp as they were over cooked and not great. Fresh, local shrimp boiled and then chilled should have been an easy win. I would have given 5 stars aside from two things, our initial experience and our service speed. I am thankful this restaurant had outdoor seating for our dogs and even a little water stand set up for dogs but we felt a bit ostracized for having them. Asked to sit at the very far end of the picnic area (I can understand as we had animals) and then given a different waiter than at the start who seemed irritated for a while about it... snapping at a couple people in our party with short quips in response to questions. By the end of our visit the staff appeared to have relaxed some which was a relief. We were even offered dog biscuits from a nearby dog shop. Our food was tasty, from several burgers, wings and sandwiches. However, we waited nearly an hour to get our food. Everyone was starving from our last day on the beach and this was our stop before driving home. One person didn't receive their meal until the rest of the table had nearly finished (luckily they had ordered wings as an appetizer and had eaten something, but ended up packing the meal to go). The location is convenient, the owner was friendly and talkative and shared a treat with our dogs. I would definitely recommend, but maybe to those sans dogs and a starving appetite! read more

Terrible! I really didn't want my first review to be 1 star. But I could not let this go by. The first time I came here I had bad food so I decided to give it another try. My mistake! I ordered the Baja Taco. The fish was not fresh. It wasn't even freshly frozen. I don't know what I was eating. I ordered to go. Spent $13 and honestly just threw my money in the trash. Ended up going elsewhere. How this business stays open because of its lack luster food leaves me to question why people ever come back. read more

SJ's is a small hole in the wall seafood restaurant! The Best Kind! Ambiance is a bit dark, the bar is busy, but the atmosphere is still family friendly. Littleneck Clams! Haven't had those in almost forever! Got my daughter to try them. Not like back home but very good nonetheless. Fish of the Day! Yummy, grilled perfectly! Island Rice/Beans - very good, a little on the sweet side. Crabcake - Deliciousness! Crab Legs - a lot of work but hey... worth it! (Another first for my daughter) Gouda Potatoes! OMG freaky good! Veggies - uhhh... okay, edible, but not great Service - good up front, but when it got busy, our server didn't come back to check on us to see if our food was good/okay (it was).
