    Cream of Crab Soup
    Travis M.

I had the crab soup. Coastal dreaming and tongue slapping is this cream of crab soup. This is why food memories marinate in your mind. One spoonful and you're engulfed with a bowl that feels like a warm seaside hug. Rich and silky texture that lets every drop (and crab pieces) cling to your spoon. The crab is generous, sweet, and unmistakably fresh, briny joy. What I loved most was how the seasoning danced with cream without being heavy. Flavorful with a whisper of the sea that never got fishy or overdone. Pair it with the side of bread that has to be ordered separately. Nathan is an amazing server and sometimes offer you some kitchen secrets aka (sweet butter). I would give it full stars if a lil heat had been added...but that's my palette. Awesome outdoor atmosphere with plenty of seating to look over the water and a tiki bar. Must visit!!

I'm updating my previous review after speaking with one one of with the owners regarding recipe, etc. about crab cakes, soup, rum pirate drinks with a party of 5. I appreciate his willingness to invite us back for a meal! Zachary was a great waiter who patiently answered all of our many questions. Also, enjoyed the live music on the deck.

My wife and I have eaten here a dozen times or so over the last five years, always had a good experience. The food is high quality for casual dining. Tonight the initial dining was fine. Met a friend and his wife and enjoyed a nice sit down meal. When I went to the bar to order take out for the wife the problems started. I ordered the food and a beer. I asked for and paid the tab and left a generous tip of %25. For the next 30 minutes not only did I not see any food, but neither bartender offered to check or even made eye contact. The 18 year old who claimed to be the senior manager on site when I complained was no help at all. Won't be recommending this place to out of towners anymore!

Visited due to CVMA state meeting and husband selected this spot from online due to my extensive food allergies. Corn any derivative Gluten/wheat/barley/oat/rye Almond Soybean Eggs Milk /dairy Peanut They were extremely accommodating, working to insure that I was able to eat a delicious safe meal of Snow crab legs and asparagus. It was the absolute highlight of my weekend. Yes, it was more expensive than most places. However, often this is the case for fresh preparation nowadays. The view from the pier was so serene, truly melting my stress away. The staff was phenomenal, extremely kind, attentive and was definitely a plus for the visit. Highly recommend this local spot for a experience to remember. We look forward to returning when we are in the area. Thank you!

Our overall experience at Rusty Hooks was pretty good! The customer service was excellent & everyone was helpful. We had about 45 minute wait for our food, which wasn't too bad since everything came out fresh. Food could have been seasoned a little more but overall, the food was delish. The restaurant provided lots of seating both inside and out.

    Blackened Red Drum - AMAZING!

Cute waterside restaurant. Carissa was an excellent waitress....attentive and pleasant. Hubs and I both got the nightly special which was a lightly blackened red drum fresh catch. The meal was nothing short of outstanding! It was so good! We also had the crab dip which was delicious as well. I do think the dip was overpriced but it was still delicious. If vacationing here again, we would come back.

For my palette was garnished with the buffalo trace as I felt the fight beautifully burning. I turned to notice many changes in a place I had only ever sat outside to. I turn to my right and see a bunch of awesome video games for the conciseness of fun, and a way to distract the kids in you or in your family to allow the sipping of your bourbon you so rightfully deserve from hard work or battles of the night if you're a warrior like me. see we all deserve a temple of sand and fun and the outside bar shading me from the heat made me realize this was the place I could really bow my head in accomplishment. My parents really loved their food as well. They savored the shrimp tacos and the steak sub equally pleasing to their palates. This entire establishment has changed in every which way for the better. The inside had been renovated with a now view of the ocean, and they had upgraded wall decor and tables. No soggy fries, no dead flies, in fact this restaurant was sooooo much cleaner than I remember it being, even family who have been multiples times in the past agreed. We ordered the Nacho appetizer, and I got the chicken tacos and they exceeded my expectations in all sorts of delicious ways. The staff was so friendly the new owner even came by to chat and gave us chocolates, shout out to Giovanni! I can't wait to come back during the summer to see the beachfront patio in full effect!

Just schedule a low country boil with these fine folks over at Cape Fear Boil Company and you can cross a simple meal with minimal mess off your list. If you're like us, maybe you have a very large crowd to feed, and the restaurants on the island and in Southport simply don't have room to accomodate you. Maybe you don't want to bother preparing a meal to feed this many people, and then have to deal with all the cleanup after when you could be spending more time with your friends and family on the beach or by the pool. In those cases, you can have them cater the boil for you, including setup, cooking, and clean up for a flat fee plus gratuity. This is what we had them do for us, to feed a group of 20 people for a birthday celebration. We ordered the standard boil, plus 6 pounds of mussels, 4 quarts cole slaw, 4 quarts mac and cheese, 24 corn muffins, and a lobster tail for the birthday boy. We planned for dinner between 5:30-6, and Sam from CFBC arrived at about 4:30 to get everything going. Right on time, he had a disposable tablecloth spread out and a buffet with our sides set up, then brought the big boil pot up (they cook outside on a portable stove) to dump out all the yummy seafood, sausage, corn, and potatoes. The spread was a sight to see! Definitely check my photos! Everything was very delicious, with a couple notes for the future... we probably would not order mussels again unless the style of cooking them were changed. They were simply mixed in with the rest of the boil, so the result was when they opened up, their meaty insides just got lost in the pile and you really had to hunt for them, almost all shells were empty. I'd suggest either steaming them over the pot and seasoning after, or putting them in a fine mesh strainer or basket inside the boil pot to cook. The other note I had was that the mac n cheese was just kind of average. Likely that it was bagged easy mac or similar. The kids still loved it, but a baked mac or something house-made would make it better. Neither of these notes were significant enough to lower the rating on a sure 5-star experience! We would definitely book them again, probably next year! I would also note they were very accomodating in making a secondary smaller boil pot without sausage for the non-pork eaters in our group.
