I got take out. Ordered online and picked up. It was easy and ready! This was our first time having Shagbark. I drove pretty far for this dinner. 30 min there and 30 min back home. I will say it was well worth it. Their bbq was really moist, and as you can see the portions were plentiful. The brisket is definitely the way to go. We wanted to try pulled pork and the brisket so we shared between the two but we both agreed the brisket was the best between the two. The sauces are good, but I wish I would've tried the spicy one just because I do love a kick. Their bbq sauce was really good. I don't know about the white sauce though. The Golden one tastes like honey mustard and I liked it! All the sides were delicious as well! No complaints from us. If I didn't have to drive so far I would've gotten dessert too but the ice cream would've melted on me. We will definitely be coming back here!! Hopefully to dine in one day too.

Brisket tamales

The food here was incredible, the service was impeccable, (shout out to mi amiga Corina!) and the inside was really cool. I got the brisket tamales... my goodness, the salsa was perfect and the tamales were fantastic. The pictures in this review don't do the food justice. We loved it.

Service was fantastic! We were greeted when we came in. Staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable. The food was off the chain! So good. We tried the brisket plate with okra, and pasta salad and the rib plate with potato salad with Mac and cheese. Cornbread on the sweet side, pickles balanced it well with slight heat. We also got the pecan cobbler! That dessert is a must have!!! We will be back for sure! This is a great spot!

Turkey plate with beans and Mac.

I mean, you see a stand alone bar b q place pop up and you think....... Well maybe, well this time was it! The service, great. The atmosphere industrial and clean with music and the food...... yes! I really wanted chicken on the bone but they were sold out so I went for the turkey plate. So smoky and good all around. Sides were perfect and not dry and I only had some of the sweet sauce. Again yup! If your anywhere near this joint and want good bbq, stop in for sure!

The Humble Hog - These chicken livers were snook on the inside, crispy outside so seasoned

We had been meaning to try Humble Hog as I'm a huge fan of smoked bologna so I was disappointed to find that is only served at lunch. Our server was attentive and super sweet. She made some solid recommendations and we took her up on them. We opted instead for a few small plates and my wife and I shared the brisket. We opened with lobster hush puppies and burnt ends. The burnt ends were terrific, well seasoned, wonderfully smoked and a fair portion size. The hush puppies lacked lobster but were still tasty and cooked made to order. From there we indulged in the chipotle smoke Mac and cheese, brisket and corn pone. The brisket was terrific and tender and well smoked, the Mac and cheese was SUPERB and definitely had a spicy little kick but the corn pone was awful. I understand that it's essentially cornbread pancakes but there was zero flavor and they were almost cold. I was looking forward to these because you don't see them on the menu many places abut they were not good. Cornbread served like this should be made to order and served hot and fresh. We finished with the banana pudding which was excellent and I think the finish the top with marshmallow fluff that they torch to give it a smoky taste. So when you head down to humble hog go at lunch and try the bologna, I bet it's amazing...and skip the corn pone.

The pulled pork was good but the cornpone replacement for the brioche bun was disappointing. On a high note, the sticky ribs and chipotle mac&cheese were both great. So there's that.

I got "The Koy" which is a rice bowl with a choice of 1 meat, coleslaw, and a creamy siracha dressing. I already want to order it again, it was so good. My wife got "The Gomer" which is a little more what you'd expect for BBQ, a meat choice + coleslaw and topped over mac n cheese. It was also super good. Thanks so much for coming out to Monroe, Lloyd's! You are welcome anytime! Better than basically any of the other local BBQ joints by far.

The calendar is on the web page. But why chase bad BBQ. This wood pellet (Traeger) grill smoked BBQ is dry. The smoke flavor is light to the point of being almost non-existent. The rub is okay, but when a brisket is this dry it's just not worth eating. The other meats are okay. The pork is probably the best thing, and it's just good not great. The ribs were okay too. The sides are about the only reason this has two stars instead of one. The mac and cheese is tasty and well made. The beans are good. Look, I don't write any reviews less than three stars and few less than four stars unless I have visited a place multiple times. Any place can have an off day, and I hate giving lower reviews to small businesses. But this is just NOT good BBQ. And, yes, I know a bit about BBQ, with deep roots in Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, and Italy. I've cooked many briskets. Many. With wood. Cooked many pork butts and ribs. Tons. And so has my family (I have two relatives in the Dallas area who cater BBQ). So, this is not an area where I have no experience. Oh, and don't snicker at Italy in the list. How did your whole goat cooked in a dirt pit turn out? How about that whole pig you cooked? Yeah. Thought so. Sorry, Lloyd's. This is not great stuff. Dang. I wish it were.

I came across Oakwood BBQ food truck when we stopped at Southside Garage for a few beers. I love food trucks because I always feel like they elevate food typically more then a normal restaurant. I ended up getting some sliced brisket with elotes (Mexican street corn) and coleslaw. I took one bite of the brisket and I literally thought I was back in Texas. I ended up going back up to the window and talking to the employees working and letting them know how great it was. He informed me that the owner is actually from Texas so it makes since he knows how to execute a brisket well. The elotes was good, I've never had it with jalapeños it was different but I wasn't mad about it. I've been to a lot of different restaurants around the area that chop up their coleslaw very finely where it's kind of like a mush which I'm not a fan of, has a weird texture. I like that they keep it the true way. I ended up buying the rest of their brisket they had on hand, I loved it so much!

The brisket was fall-apart, melt-in your-mouth meaty goodness. Corn was tasty & id have it again, but nothing is rave over. Definitely try the spicy deviled eggs. Nobody makes deviled eggs is good as momma T, but these are awesome. And spicy! Will hit Oakwood up again soon!
