We had a great experience visiting Calhoun's. A lot of the enjoyment came from having a fantastic server. She is one of the managers but was serving when we visited. She was delightful and brought a lot of fantastic energy. I had the oriental chicken salad, which was delicious. My husband ordered the catfish and spinach Maria, which he really enjoyed as well. Excellent service, excellent food, and an incredible view of the Tennessee river! We had the Rocky Top potato skins as an appetizer, and they were incredible!

Calhoun's is a good BQQ and ribs restaurant in a great location on the river. It is casual and relaxed, but nice. We decided to eat at Calhoun's before a UT basketball game. The wait was 45 minutes, but we were able to grab a couple of bar seats pretty quickly. We ordered the Bacon-Wrapped Brisket Burnt Ends as an appetizer. It had really good flavor, but the meat was a little dry. I'd give this a 8/10 rating. For the meal, we spilt the Calhoun's Trio, which had ribs, pork BBQ , fried chicken strips and tater tots. The ribs were really good (8/10). The pork BBQ was good (7/10). The fried chicken strips were cooked well, but didn't have a lot of flavor (6/10). The tater tots were really good and perfectly crispy (8/10). Calhoun's has a full bar and local beer on tap from Smoky Mountain Brewing.

I don't leave many negative reviews, but this one just couldn't be ignored. This particular Calhoun's gets a ton of business because of proximity to campus, and it seems they really just don't care because they know they'll get fans coming in. A friend and I were going to a game awhile back and decided to grab dinner here beforehand. We got a booth in the bar area and placed our orders pretty quickly. I chose the cheeseburger and fries, while my friend selected the chicken tenders. It took ages for our food to arrive, and then my burger had no toppings (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickle, etc) - just a squirt of ketchup. Not even any fries. There was no real remedy to the situation because we couldn't find our server. Because of time constraints, we just ate as is. And then it took awhile to get our check and pay. I'll avoid this place as much as I can. Maybe just for drinks prior to a game next time?

We had such a lovely time at Calhoun's on the River. It was a perfect day to sit on the deck and enjoy the views and weather. The menu for the deck is more limited than inside the restaurant, but we still got some amazing food items. We enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip, bacon wrapped beef brisket burnt ends, and wings tossed in the sweet and spicy thunder road sauce. Everything was delicious! Our server was quick and friendly. Would absolutely recommend!

Fantastic location near downtown Knoxville on the River. We were greeted immediately by the host and even quicker by our super friendly server. It was a cold non game day so we had a great seat indoors overlooking the water but we were told come game days there could be a several hour wait and that their parking lot is rented out so please keep that in mind. I have the Veggie Burger and it was delicious- they took a different spin with Monterey Jack, Avocado and their own aioli and it was a nice change! (My thanks to the chef) I've been a vegetarian just over 8 years and this meal sat well with me which means the kitchen does a great job with eliminating cross contamination- it's so nice when that's the case! Husband had their house wings and said they were some of the best they have had! We will definitely be back when we are in town again!

We sat at the bar for a drink and the bartender was very attentive and quick with the drinks. Drinks were all reasonably priced. Our server was attentive, answered all of our questions and her two recommendations were spot on! Great service! The food came out quick - was hot and tasty. The restaurant has an old world charm and the view of the river was the perfect setting for a lovely dinner. Would definitely visit again when in town.

First of all, be prepared to search for parking but I found a parking garage about a block away. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly bartender who made a good bit of conversation with me. I appreciated that and he recommended the wings. I wish I had taken him up on the wings. More on that in a moment. I felt like pulled pork though so I went with the sandwich and Chipotle mac and cheese. The pulled pork was tender, seasoned well, and went well with all the sauces. I never had Chipotle mac and cheese as it was a little spicy but oh so creamy and cheesy! There are 4 sauces - 3 on the table that are tomato base (mild, Chipotle, and Habanero) and the Alabama white you have to request. The Alabama White was my favorite as it was very black peppery. And that is why I should have taken the bartender up on the wings because that sauce with the wings would have been amazing. The other 3 sauces were thick and rich. My sweet tea was refreshingly sweet! Very good BBQ overall though it is limited and pricey and worth a visit to downtown Knoxville.

We had heard of this place for a while and wanted to check it out and we're so glad we did. The food and service were amazing. Walking in it's a narrow restaurant, that has a bar on one side and tables on the other with kinda a rustic feel to it. We were seated immediately and our drink orders were taken. Since we hadn't been there before we got water and then pursued the menu a little for drinks. I had a question between two drinks and the server was very good at describing the drinks and ultimately decided to try the Darryl Strawberry, while my husband got the Nor'easter. The drinks came out and they were really good. They weren't overly strong, you could taste the bourbon in each of them, but it wasn't overpowering. For food we got the OPA! to start and then the Billy for me and the Mother Clucker for him. The OPA was awesome. It's pan seared feta with honey and served with fresh bread. The honey added a little extra sweetness to the feta which went really nicely with the crusty bread. The Billy had goat cheese, bacon, onions and, a tomato jam on it. It was delicious. The creamy goat cheese with the bacon and smokey tomato jam all went amazingly together. I got onion rings as my side, which were crunchy hot and so so good. The Mother Clucker was also really good. I only had a bite of it to try, but was definitely impressed. My husband upgraded to the duck fat fries which were out of this world. Super crunchy, great flavor. Our server kept checking back on us the whole time making sure we were satisfied with our drinks and food, but we had absolutely no complaints. This is a great place for a date if you want good food or to hang out with friends. We will definitely be back.

The rub is okay, but when a brisket is this dry it's just not worth eating. The other meats are okay. The pork is probably the best thing, and it's just good not great. The ribs were okay too. The sides are about the only reason this has two stars instead of one. The mac and cheese is tasty and well made. The beans are good. Look, I don't write any reviews less than three stars and few less than four stars unless I have visited a place multiple times. Any place can have an off day, and I hate giving lower reviews to small businesses. But this is just NOT good BBQ. I especially want to try the pork belly bites, but those are only on Fridays. I ordered the most popular dish, the gomer. I asked what the freshest meat was because the reviews varied. Many stated that there was a lot of dry meats, others report tender and perfect. My suggestion if you don't want to be disappointed is to ask what is the freshest for that moment in time. Pork was it today and it was delicious. I think next time I would rather get the meat plate as all the sides piled onto the pork was a bit over the top for me. I wanted to taste each item they have separately, but it was challenging being piled together. But that is what I get for picking the popular item and not what I think I would enjoy more. Gomer was $12. I see the cost has gone from $10, then $11 and now $12. I would not be willing to pay more than $12 but I understand the cost of food has gone up. Curious why the nacho is $16. If I understand correctly it is just the gomer with chips and cheese. I don't think that is worth $4 more. Maybe the quantity is more too??? Overall, I am happy with my first trip to Lloyd's and looking forward to pork belly bites in my future.
