Hampton Inn White River Junction - Guest room

After a somewhat disastrous stay at a hotel about 40 minutes away, I was looking for something…read moreaffordable and available and the Hampton Inn popped up immediately. As a huge Hampton fan, I booked online immediately and within an hour, was checking into my spacious and clean room. From top to bottom, this hotel is well run. It was sold out the second night we were there but it was still running smoothly. Parking lot, lobby, halls, etc were all spotless. Staff was available at all times. Everything was so well maintained...nothing broken or anything like that. My room was spotless not to mention quiet and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was very civilized (if you stay at Hamptons, you know that some of the guests behave like they've never had a free breakfast before, lol) and there was a large selection of healthy options (fruit, yogurt, oatmeal) as well as the mandatory waffle station. I had a pumpkin spice waffle which was great! After leaving the prior hotel we'd been staying at 9:00 pm, anything would have been better but this place took it to the next level. If you're anywhere near White River Junction, this is a great place to stay!

We booked this Hampton Inn kind of last minute after switching from another place, and honestly I…read morewas glad we did. We got room 200 on the second floor and it was really clean, comfortable, and seemed well kept. The staff at the desk were super friendly and helpful, which made checking in easy. I used the laundry room during the stay -- it worked fine, but I wish the machines took cards instead of quarters (would make things easier). Breakfast in the morning was great with lots of options and everything looked fresh. I've stayed at quite a few Hampton Inns, but this one stood out a bit more. Clean rooms, nice staff, and a solid breakfast -- would definitely come back.

Kind of perfect, depending what perfect means to you…read more I've stayed at swanky, I've stayed in converted palaces, I've stayed at corporate, and I've stayed in tents with cots. This place was... distinctive... in a good way! Like it has character. The lobby has puzzles and games. The staff are friendly. Not in an overly formal and obsequious way -- they're not hotel robots -- but in a natural, human way. The beds are really springy. Boing Boing! You can tell where they decided not to spend a fortune having an electrician pipe wires through their antique moldings, and instead discreetly ran the wires on the outside of the walls. The bathroom felt like it was last updated in 1950. The wide, wood-floor hallways have obvious dips and rolls in the antique wood planking. But it was clean. The price was right. There's a dictionary in the hallway, to read, I guess. They hide little miniature figurines throughout the hotel (common areas and rooms) for children to find. The one real knock is noise. The rooms are not well soundproofed at all. And you can definitely hear the freight train whistle at night. If you're a light sleeper, please don't stay here.

So I get that Vermont is a tourist destination and people will come regardless. That being said…read more.. you would think that they would do a better job of at the minimum maintaining the integrity of the building and making it feel safe for those who are visiting. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the musty smell and the water damage that covers the place from literally head to toe. The roof to the flooring... there is visible and notable damages. It's not great when waiting to check in, some random guest says "there's water drip next to the outlet" The rooms are also similar in condition. Bathroom is old and rusty (not to be confused with RUSTIC), the tub doesn't drain, and it's just dirty. I am disappointed in the fact that the location is prime as it's central to all tourist attractions for Vermont and there are wonderful restaurants in walking distance. Also the staff (at least the front) seems very kind and friendly so there that. That being said, I do not recommend this place... it's not comfortable and it gives you the "itchy" feeling. Shame on the hotel industries for not keeping up with changes and hiding behind the " we are old and historic" you can be both historic/old but functional and clean

Disgusting. The…read moreHoliday Inn Express & Suites White River Junction is one of the worst IHG properties we have seen. Pay the extra money to stay elsewhere when visiting White River Junction. Let's break it down: Rooms: - The dump hasn't been updated in 15+ years. Paint is chipping everywhere, cabinets are falling apart, doors don't properly close. - Everything looks and feels like it is covered in a decade's worth of human dirt and grime. - As you can see from the pictures, the room upon check in was filthy. Walls covered in some brown substance, uncleaned body hair in the bathtub. I wanted to vomit. Staff: - They must only hire local high school kids who hate their life. No one over the age of 20 was working the entire time we were there. And if you think a 17 year old knows how to take care of guests...well...sorry to burst your bubble, but the girl at check in literally was on Tik Tok on her phone while checking me in to my room. - Toilet was clogged (not by us, it was like this upon arrival). We called for a fix before we left for dinner. We returned an hour later to...a clogged toilet. Other guests: - It's a rough crowd. Not people you'd want your kids to be around.

I'm not looking for anything like a happy ending... the real basics were there but unfinished. The breakfast room was big and pretty cool, well decorated, clean, meeting rooms and pool area stylish and high ceilings. Staff was kind and hardworking. The facility looked well maintained. The fish in the pond were alive... the fireplace was lit but not roaring. There were no managers anywhere in range to address the idea that the food at breakfast was running out... and it wasn't even that great. Canned fruit cocktail - fully picked through down to the pears, no breakfast meats, scrambled eggs clearly from a mix, milk empty, and... odd food setup, not conducive to easy access... waffle maker on the opposite side of the big room up a set of steps. I'm not disabled, but very large group of older people there... big group... kinda sad the staff didn't have the presence of mind or leadership support to plan for a big group and make em really feel well taken care of. A tiny bit of forethought in planning for a big group, prepping the staff who was there, ordering enough food and then getting it ready plenty early... The missing link was leadership. So, this place has potential. They could have a box of umbrellas for borrow. They could have put up an omelet or fresh eggs cook station with an actual breakfast cook. Space was available but NOTHING made me say "Hey wow ... I'll come back here"
